La Terrazza is a rare find. A superb, bright, sun-exposed during all the day, airy vacancy apartment placed at the first floor of a 13th century palace in the very heart of medieval town. Has a large and private outdoor terrace all covered in colourfull jasmine and lemon plants and various other flowers.

It faces the Baptistery of a church and the terrace is protected, it is very safe both for adults and especially for children. So just few seconds away from Lucca's pictoresque ancient streets, you can sit having meals, or cooling drinks, just gaze over the roofs of the medieval town in perfect stillness. From the terrace you can also see the sunset.

The apartment is located in the center of Lucca town, inside the ancient Walls. Built within a 13th century palace, the thick stone walls keep the rooms cool on even the hottest tuscany day and warm in winter. The living/dining room, complete with confortable double sofa bed, has a cooking corner. There is a master bed room with double bed and bathroom with shower.

The whole apartment is a beatifully furnished in charming style, laid out along Feng-Shui lines and orned with beatiful large French-style windows. It is also acoustical treated to avoid accidental noises and rumours from the outside.

The owner will treat you as one of her family and will have only one request: she would love you to water her beloved plants!.....

Step into La Terrazza and you immediately leave the bustle of the city streets behind. All the apartment windows face onto the large (40 square meters) terrace, furnished with table, 4 chairs and 2 chaises longues.

This is your perfect vacancy apartment, suitable to explore the magic of Lucca. This beautiful city is famous for its monumental 15th century fortified Walls. But looking a little deeper, you will find that its pictoresque medieval streets actually follow the plan laid out by the Romans in 180 BC. Before Romans, Lucca was one of the major centres of Etruria, the ancient country of central Italy that more or less corresponds to modern Tuscany, inhabited from Etruschi, that are Tuscany people ancestors.

Unsurprisingly then, Lucca is steeped in history. the 13th century building is just a small part of that. There are museums and churches, and the magnificent Cathedral, the San Martino Dome, one of Lucca’s finest Romanic buildings; its impressive façade is a triumph of sculpture, carving and inlay works - at just five minutes by foot from the apartment.

Modern delights include marvellous restaurants, bars and shops, all within a few minutes on foot. In Lucca’s pictoresque streets, the pedestrians come before the cars, so you can move at your own pace. In fact wandering the streets is one of the great pleasures of the city. Walk or hire a bike and cicly around the top of the city Walls, this is a marvellous way to see the town and its surrounding countryside. The station is just some minute away too, making this the perfect base for exploring Tuscany, and for trips to Viareggio, Pietrasanta and Cinque Terre coasts, Florence, Pisa and Siena.

The apartment is available throughout the year.

The owner, on request, may give infos to the guests on a free car parking (250 meters far from the apartment) or on a on-payment car parking (50 meters far from the apartment).

The accommodation is suitable for two plus two adults or two adults and two children. It has Pay TV and Hi-Fi system.

  • We are a family of four: my wife and I, my daughter (7) and my 20 month-old son. The apartment when we arrived was very clean, smelling principally of the jasmine which grows on the terrace. We were there during the late spring, and it was actually quite hot. We often kept the doors open and the shutters closed, which kept the apartment quite comfortable. We had plenty of linens and pillows. In the bathroom, the shower is open and one has to use a squeegee when one is finished. But this was not troublesome for us. Emma Claudia does speak English -- not fluently, but it is much better than our Italian, and she always had a dictionary on hand. In general we were able to communicate adequately. She was a wonderful resource to have, often suggesting restaurants and such. The real strength of the apartment is its terrace. It is spacious, safe for children, protected from the sun, and covered in flowering plants. When at home, we spent most of our time there. My children also loved the evening ritual of watering all the plants and flowers. The kitchen was also nice with everything we needed, plus a washing machine. There was a table for eating inside, but we ate all of our meals on the terrace. The apartment consists essentially of two large rooms, a bathroom and the terrace. One of the rooms is the dining room/kitchen, which also has a sofa bed. The other room is the bedroom, which has a king-size bed along with plenty of closets and a television. Emma Claudia also provided us with a crib for my son. The sofa bed was just okay for sleeping but the king-size was quite comfortable. Both rooms open onto the terrace. The place is well-decorated. There is carpet in the bedroom, vinyl tile in the dining room/kitchen, and ceramic tile in the bathroom. The apartment is one flight up in a building with several apartments. There was a large entryway for the building where we were able to keep our stroller. There are two bicycles available for the tenants. We rented bikes for the days we wanted to go riding on the atop the city walls, but her bikes proved useful for running errands around town. There is no Internet in the apartment. When I needed to get online, I rode the bike to the tourist office at the Piazza Verdi, which has cheap wireless access. Emma Claudia showed us personally around town one afternoon. And when my daughter became ill on our departure day and we needed to stay another night on short notice, she obliged us, charging slightly less than the regular rate. It lived up to our expectations. We enjoyed our stay in Lucca very much, and that was, in no small part, due to our perfectly pleasant accommodations.
