KICK OFF YOUR SHOES AND RELAX-THIS IS THE PLACE! As urban creative types with hectic schedules, we escape whenever we can to "Castaway," our cozy knotty-pine getaway on Ministers Pond. In this corner of Cape Cod heaven, you can unwind in a beautiful waterfront setting with maximum simplicity.

"Castaway" is the farthest unit from the entrance to the small cottage colony of Nauset Haven. The grounds are attractively maintained and there is generous space between our cottage and its nearest neighbor. The other side borders woods, so you'll appreciate the extra space and privacy!
Enjoy Ministers Pond in all its changing colors and light from every room and the cottage deck. A few steps bring you down to a private beach where you can swim, sunbathe on the floating dock, or take one of the rowboats for your own private cruise or freshwater fishing.

Location! Location! Location! We are just 1/4 mile from the National Seashore Visitor Center at Salt Pond with its spectacular trails, dunes, and fabulous Coast Guard Beach (voted #1 ocean beach on Cape Cod). Rent a bicycle and take a spin on the Cape's famous Rail Trail between Wellfleet and Brewster, or take the Seashore Trail directly to Coast Guard Beach. Sightseeing, birdwatching, canoeing/kayaking, beachcombing, off-beat and fun shopping, miniature golf, drive-in movies, antiquing, great seafood and local cuisine: it's all right here.

The living room has sliding glass doors to the deck, a fireplace, and a convertible full-size futon sofa. The deck is furnished with a table and chairs. The bedroom has a full-size bed with direct pond view through the large window. The kitchen is equipped with a four-burner gas stove, frig, microwave, toaster-oven, coffeemaker, blender, standard cookware, dishware and utensils. The renovated bathroom has a vanity and shower. There is AC for summer and wood-burning fireplace and propane heat for cool weather. A Weber charcoal grill is available for outdoor use.

Just bring linens and towels and get ready to relax and enjoy the best of Cape Cod! (Note: If you are traveling by air, we can arrange for linens and towels to be provided for a $25 surcharge.)

Owner's Map of Eastham

Both co-owners of Castaway Cottage were professors in the Boston area and regular Cape visitors for over 25 years before purchasing the cottage. Our love for the Cape's unique combination of nature, culture and history only grows with time and we respect the care that the towns have taken not to overdevelop the Cape or build high-density resorts. The creation of the National Seashore in 1962 was so farsighted. You can really step back in time here and find old-fashioned simplicity. We discovered this jewel of a cottage by accident while visiting a friend and were hopelessly smitten! It is so convenient to everything, yet tucked away down a hidden road that can't be seen from the highway. It's the tranquility and natural beauty of the setting that immediately invites relaxation and provides a feeling of well-being. We hope you'll enjoy "Castaway" and experience what it is about the Cape that has kept us hooked all these years!

Another great vacation--our third time at Castaway. Always finding something new to enjoy, this time we found a great pie place in Chatham, "Marie's Home Made." Try the Razzleberry--delicious!!!

Instant tranquility

Thank you for providing such a lovely, cozy getaway so we could celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary without the kids. Everything here, for the decor to the view of the pond, was perfect! We felt instantly relaxed the moment we arrived. We enjoyed breakfast on the deck, reading in the sunshine, a warm fire on damp evenings, movie night, birds in flight filling the air with song. It was easy to cook in the kitchen with all the supplied cookware, utensils, etc. Hope to come back soon.

Readers Take Note--Great cottage library

A lovely week on Ministers Pond, enjoying the crisp fall weather. For us, a highlight was the cottage "library," especially older volumes like E.B. White's Humor Collection and "Cape Coddities." Made it hard to get out the door to the beaches!

Wonderful people and peaceful relaxation

Guest: Nancy and Meke (and Elodie) (-)
Date of Stay: 09/10/10 Review Submitted: 01/27/12

What an awesome place! We've been here eight days and every day has been great. When we were here before, there wasn't a deck. We loved it then and even more now; I am permanently glued to that deck--great view, very peaceful and wonderful people here. Our granddaughter had lots of friends to play and swim with. The cottages is a home away from home: peaceful, relaxing and just perfect. Loved First Encounter Beach--especially for sunsets. We will definitely be coming back.

We enjoyed a delightful week in your quaint and cozy little cabin--my husband and 20-month-year-old daughter have many fond memories to go home with. This was our first visit to Cape Cod and we're definitely coming back! You have equipped this cottage in such complete ways and the decor is charming. Thanks for the memories!

We felt right at home

Guest: Joni and David (-)
Date of Stay: 10/11/09 Review Submitted: 01/27/12

Thank you for the relaxing cottage. What a wonderful time to be here (October). Cool and breezy, but we had the beaches to ourselves, parking lots were empty and a cozy cottage to come back to. (Watch out for parking tickets in P'Town!) What a wonderful cottage. You've decorated the place well and provided all the essentials. We felt right at home. This was our first trip east (from Colorado), but it won't be our last.

Perfect balance of nature and culture

Guest: Sherry and Michael (-)
Date of Stay: 06/22/09 Review Submitted: 01/27/12

The cabin is adorable, comfortable and equipped for everything possible. We hiked through Nauset Marsh and to Jeremy Point and a few other places. Saw almost 30 different species of birds! Looked at the stars on a moonless night at the beach. Went shopping in P'Town and found lots of good food. At the top of the list of surprises was a production of the "Bald Soprano" in Wellfleet. Perfect balance of nature and culture. Thanks so much.

Less than great weather? No problem!

Guest: Chan and Tay (-)

We enjoyed our spring weekend getaway here very much. Despite the cool rainy weather, we found so many fun things to do in the area: mini-golfing, Provincetown, and scenic walks on the beach...who could ask for a better weekend? I certainly can't.

Waves, tides and osprey sitings

Guest: Grace and Dan (-)
Date of Stay: 08/22/08 Review Submitted: 01/27/12

We loved the CastAway! It was very comfortable and just right for us. Cape Cod is GREAT. We saw a huge storm wave across the peninsula while we were in Highland Lighthouse--very dramatic! The tidal change at First Encounter Beach and Nauset Marsh is unbelievable! Osprey were checking out Ministers Pond and we enjoyed treats from Friendly Fisherman and Nauset Ice Cream. The Audubon Society trails in Wellfleet are highly recommended! Thanks for sharing your cottage!
