Booking this house when you come to Halifax for a conference or business meeting can also be attractive - it is more fun to chill out with a nice bottle of wine and a home-cooked meal after a hectic day learning, thinking-on-your-feet, or giving a conference paper. And you can book the house with several colleagues - nothing like communing socially with those who think alike.
This is the perfect spot to house and host your out-of-town guests for weddings, milestone birthday celebrations, anniversary gatherings, and graduations. Many have utilized the house in this way over the past, and have found it to work really well. It is central, is in an area of superb amenities, has a huge private, walled patio deck, and is equipped with all the dishes and kitchen supplies you could ever need, including a stock of food basics.
Every year I do something major to the house, and this past spring (May 2010) I put in a completely new bathroom with black marble floor and counter-top, new soaker tub and shower, new sink, taps, vanity, beveled mirror, towel racks, and powerful ceiling fan.
In January of this year I renovated and made available the 4th bedroom on the lower floor - warm white cork floor, persian rug, commissioned queen-size wooden bed, and its own ensuite bathroom.
This is a full, 4-bedroom house in a residential neighbourhood in the downtown core of the city of Halifax. Live like a Haligonian, and walk to the huge grocery and liquor stores one street over, have morning coffee either in the coffee shop on the corner or on your own huge patio deck, cook dinner on the barbecue, or head around the corner to one of the myriad of restaurants in the area, or trundle downtown - a 10-minute walk - to Spring Garden Road or the Waterfront for dinner and drinks, and listen to live music any night of the week. Musically, Halifax has been called the ‘Seattle of the East’. And did you know that Halifax has more drinking establishments, and churches, per-capita than any city in Canada?
All of our guests have loved the house - the privacy, the central location, the gorgeous, hand-made beds, the sumptuous linens and duvets, the books and CD's, the highspeed internet, and being close to everything.
The home is ideal for a family of eight or ten (with two on new queen-size sofa bed in living-room), for three or four couples, visiting academics, corporate travelers, conference attendees or those working in Halifax on a short-term basis. Equipped with high-speed internet with both wired and wireless connectivity, you will be able to work from your new home, if so desired. We have just installed a new, excellent-quality sound system, and purchased a new flat-screen TV and DVD player, as well.
The two-story, four-bedroom, smoke-free house is modern, and has lovely oak floors, cork on lower floor, and scattered Persian rugs throughout. It is light and airy, has generous size rooms, and a huge, private patio complete with patio furniture, gas barbecue, and patio lanterns.
The main floor has a large open-plan living and dining room, and separate kitchen with door opening onto the patio. Upstairs are three bedrooms: one with a king-size bed, and the second and third bedrooms with queen-size beds. All rooms equipped with bedside tables, lamps, chests of drawers, closets, bookshelves and books - very comfortable. The lower floor has a fourth bedroom with queen-size bed and an ensuite bathroom.
The bathroom has a bathtub and powerful shower, and the vanity is large enough to hold all the toiletries for six to eight people. Ensuite downstairs has a stand-alone shower and smaller vanity.
The house is on a quiet, residential street of Victorian homes in one of the nicest parts of the city. In less than a minute you can walk to a huge grocery store, liquor store, drugstore, banks, and a movie theatre, or you can go for a run or leisurely stroll on the Halifax Common – a huge, open green area in the centre of the city.
In just ten minutes you can walk to the universities, or downtown to Spring Garden Road - the busiest street east of Montreal, lined with trendy bars, restaurants and shops, stroll in the Public Gardens, and in five additional minutes you can smell the salt air of the ocean as you head for the boardwalk along Halifax’s waterfront, again populated with fabulous restaurants and bars where you can hear live music any night of the week.
Halifax’s harbour is one of the deepest natural harbours in the world, and because it never freezes over, one can always see huge container ships nestled alongside luxury cruise liners, military ships, tugboats, a myriad of motor and sailing vessels, and even an oil rig or two undergoing a refit.
Furthermore, you can rent a car and in just 20 minutes you can be strolling along some of the most beautiful, sandy beaches in the world, where yes indeed, you can swim in the vast blue waters of the Atlantic ocean.

I just wanted to say that my stay at this house was excellent! My family came from out of town to attend my wedding this summer and rented this home for the week around my wedding. The house gave them a wonderful place relax during the hectic schedule of the week, and also allowed them to feel at home while they were away from their home. The rooms were lovely, everyone had their own space. The kitchen allowed us to save money on food throughout the week, and had everything we needed. And the outside patio gave everyone a chance to relax outside during family meals. Thanks again for the house!

We had a wonderful family vacation in Halifax and this home worked out great for us! Travelling with an 18 month old and 4 adults - we had more than enough space and could spread out and enjoy the home. It was clean, organized, and easy to use. We really appreciated how close it was to walk for groceries or restaurants (literally out the back door!) and only a 15-25 minute walk to get anywhere downtown - we didn't use a car at all! Our experience staying at this home was great - nice and clean, and the house was just as described. We'd go back there again!

Our group was looking for a house with a great location and we certainly found it with this property. We were in Halifax for the Canada Winter Games 2011 and found the location within easy walking distance to a number of venues including the Metro Centre, skating oval and downtown festivities. We had rented a car which was needed for some venues but spent a great deal of time walking. The house is MINUTES to many many restaurants, grocery store, liquor store, drug store and centrally located for a quick exit to out-of-town sightseeing. The house, with the recent addition of the basement bedroom and ensuite, was perfect for our needs and very comfotable. The kitchen was well equipped with enough plates, bowls, cutlery and of course, wine glasses. We would love to return to Halifax in the summer and would not hesitate to stay in this house again.

Suited our needs perfectly. We were in Haifax for a family wedding and this property was in a great location and easily accommodated ourselves and our daughter and her family. We found it had a great kitchen facility, a large dining table, and a comforable living room area. It also had off street parking which we appreciated. The patio with the bar-b-que was also enjoyed by all. The location provided for a nearby grocery store, liquor store, coffee shops, and a variety of restuarants, as well as, a number of other shops. Not far from down town and the waterfront but far enough to be quiet and peaceful in the evenings. It was both very clean and very comfortable and we quickly felt we were returning "home" as the close of each busy day. We would recommend the home and the owner in only a positive way and without hesitation.

There were 5 adults staying in the house and we had lots of room. The house is within walking distance of downtown, the Citadel and The Commons. We would definitely stay again if we returned to Halifax.

My wife and I recently stayed for one week at property #53283 (early June, 2010). The house met our needs perfectly. The master bedroom was furnished with a comfortable king-sized bed. The availability of two additional bedrooms plus a convertible bed would easily allow for a a larger family or multiple couples. The kitchen was well equipped and all of the appliances were modern and full-sized (this includes the washer & dryer). The living area was nicely furnished and the dining room could easily seat eight. The house itself was clean. In regards to location, the house was perfectly situated in Halifax. The Citadel National Historic site, Public Gardens and downtown area (including Pier 21) were within easy walking distance. Shopping for groceries and other necessities was convenient. Access to highways for day trips out of Halifax was also convenient. Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg were easily accessed and travel west to the Bay of Fundy was also easy. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed our stay and I highly recommend the property to anyone interested in a Halifax vacation house rental.

Our family of 6 stayed at the house for a week while in town for a wedding. The house is well-eqipped and has a lovely deck with patio table and chairs which were well used. It is an excellent location on a quiet street with lots of amenities within 2 minutes walk. A large mall within 5 mins drive. A 20 minute walk to downtown. The street is easy to find if driving into Halifax. The owner is very obliging and I would definitely rent this house again.

The house was lovely - spacious and clean, on a quiet leafy street, but also right around the corner from lots of shops and restaurants. The barbecue and table on the large back deck was well used, and all the amenities (laundry, dishwasher, TV, internet) were in good working order. Overall, as a home base to explore Halifax and the surrounding areas, it was perfect.

There were five of us who enjoyed a week in this house in the summer of 2006. There was everything we needed as a base for seeing the city and resting up. With only one car to share and disparate interests, it was easy for us to catch a nearby bus or walk to many attractions. The house is located on a very long block with a Tim Horton's at one end and a good bakery at the other. In spite of the fact that the next street behind us is very busy with a Canadian Tire Store, a large grocery store, and many restaurants, the house was quiet with no feeling of being in a commercial district. We had the impression that the owner was very concerned with providing us any assistance we required, but on the whole we were left alone and did not have our privacy intruded upon. If I ever have the opportunity to travel again to Halifax with family and friends, I will start my travel plans by booking a stay at this house.
