Place de la Nation was originally named the Throne Square in honour of the state entry made by Louis XIV and his bride the Infanta Maria-Theresa, on 26 August 1660, when a throne was erected at which the King received due homage from the City of Paris. It was given its present name on 14 July 1880, on the first aniversary celebrations of the revolution.

Napoleon's original intention was to extend the Triumphal Way from the Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Nation, but this was not to be. Originally intended for Place de la République, the bronze sculpture in the center of the place (11 meters/36 feet high and 38 tones in weight)is named "Le Triomphe de la République". It represents an allegory of the Republic borne by a chariot drawn by lions and flanked by Work, Justice and Peace. The 2 columns on either side of Avenue du Trône are topped with statues of King Philippe Auguste and King Saint Louis.

Hello Veronique ! We loved our visit to Paris ! The apartment was very convenient and we enjoyed the peacefulness of the neighbourhood. We are so glad that we decided to rent an apartment rather than stay in a hotel. It was a wonderful experience for our whole family and I hope we will be able to do it again sometime ! Thanks ! Cindy Hamilton.

Our third stay in three years, we are still amazed how quiet it is here, yet so central and well-served by public transport direct to everywhere. St Mande market, only 2 minutes on line 1 is excellent (sundays and thursdays morning) as is the butcher up the road. Lots of patisseries, too ! Thank you Veronique ! Richard.

Dear Veronique, First, thank you for your patience as we struggled through airport and early morning Paris traffic, you were kind to wait and great us. We've all had a great time as each day was clear, warm and pleasant. The greatest 10 days I, my wife and daughter enjoyed.Paris and your apartment became our second home. Your hospitality and accomodation were perfect. We were in a typical neighborhood where the restaurants, bakerys, wine shops, and department stores all catered to locals. Everything was less expensive than shopping near or staying in, for instance, the Latin Quarter region or along the Seine. We look forward to a return and will highly recommend your living unit. Thank you ! Fernando, Mallory and Natalie LOPEZ.

Dear Veronique, Once again it's time to go We've had a splendid time. The apartment's great, the city superb And the weather has been fine. It's the second time that we've stayed here Because everything's "just so". Sure we'll be back, no "Au revoir" Instead it's "A bientot !". Thanks for the welcome on arrival, the impromptu night tour of the sights and the groceries there to meet us. We spent this stay getting off the tourist track and just walking and taking in the sights and atmosphere. Time has once again caught us and we still haven't visited Versailles ! Oh well, 3rd time lucky ! Colin and Jenny Gallacher.
