The Willoughby Cottage dates back to 1891 when grocer R.F.Willoughby had it built. His son Ralph Willoughby and his new bride, Maude, spent their first months of marriage in this small frame house. At the time, the honeymoon suite was a remodeled horse stable that occupied a spot on the property owned by the groom’s parents at 322 South Main Street.
When the newlyweds moved out, in 1903, Ralph’s father put the cottage up for lease. The newspaper ad read, “FOR RENT. CABIN WITH OR WITHOUT BACHING OUTFIT. INQUIRE OF R. W. WILLOUGHBY.”
The tiny cottage was moved to this location in 1990 and restored as a romantic retreat. The Cottage is featured on the Breckenridge historical walking tour.
In the summer, use the bike/walking trail that goes from Breckenridge to the town of Frisco. Minutes to the City Market for groceries and the Town of Breckenridge’s Recreation Center with its full weight room, rock climbing wall, indoor pool, indoor hot tub, out door hot tub, indoor running track, indoor and outdoor tennis courts.

Wonderfully Cozy Cottage for Small Family

I had such a great time staying in this cottage. It was very cozy, and also very private. We had brought our newborn, and enjoyed a quiet stay and will gladly come back and stay again. The cottage was spacious, yet cozy and extremely clean. It was also extremely convenient for walking around downtown. I would definitely recommend this place for a couple, and also spacious enough for a baby.
Recommended for:Pet owners, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

:) Very close to downtown and the gondola. Everything was within walking distance. Loved the outdoor hot tub & indoor jacuzzi. Good restaurant right next door, Blue River. (P.S. Expensive, Go there for Happy Hour) :( The carpet had stains on it. THANK YOU!!

Hi Cristina, thanks for letting us stay in the Willoughby Cottage, we really enjoyed it. It was perfect for a weekend getaway to get us away from our work space (we work from home). Loved the indoor jaccuizi, shower and outdoor hot tub. The bathrobes were a nice extra. House was clean & well cared for. Must try the Blue River Bistro and Daylight Donuts, both right next door and very good. Blue River is a little expensive, but happy hour is pretty good and the food is excellent - try the Brie.

My husband and I just got back from our vacation in Breckenridge where we stayed at the Willoughby Cottage and we loved it! The Cottage is located perfectly on Main Street with great access to shops and food. Everything in the kitchen was nicely organized and clean. The Jacuzzi Tub was a life saver after a full day of shopping. And the bed was incredibly comfortable. The weather got cool at night and the fireplace does a great job of warming the place up and making it cozy. Everything was just perfect. This by far was my most favorite vacation we've taken and we're already planning a return trip and no doubt about it...we'll be staying at the Willoughby Cottage!!

Cristina...just wanted you to know how much we enjoyed Willoughby Cottage. It was perfect for us & had all the amenities we could ask for...bathrobes, big shower, plenty of towels, etc. House was clean & well cared for. We used the hot tub a few nights since we took up long hikes & bike rides. Location is just right... Only problem was cottonwood tree (which was lovely) but in full bloom so could not sit on the front porch without being covered in "snow", but that is mother nature, so really didn't bother us. We will be sure to recommend this cottage to others who want to spend a delightful vacation in Breck. Many thanks, Susan Stair
