Casale Rosamunda is a beautifully restored old traditional country villa, located in the Niccone valley on the Umbrian Tuscany border. It is set on a wonderfully south facing hillside surrounded by 15 acres of olives, vines and meadows.
A small pound offers a tranquil spot for contemplation amongst the frogs, fish and fireflies. The new caretakers rita and Angiolino have laid out a vegetable garden to delight the guests.
The house is situated only one and a half km from the village of Mercatale di Cortona and a newly-tarmacked road leads from the village up the hillside to the final 70 meters of "strada bianca."
From the vine covered terrace of Casale Rosamunda, with its large stone table perfect for "al fresco" dining, there are splendid views towards the Umbrian hills. The swimming pool (10 by five) with diving board, is set away from the house. Adjacent to the pool there is a guest cottage offering two bedrooms and a bathroom which can be rented in addition to the main house for larger parties.
The village of Mercatele provides excellent facilities: several supermarkets, post office, banks, bakery, trattoria, pizzeria, and various bars (with internet facilities). There is a tennis court located behind the trattoria "Mimì", which can be hired on an hourly basis.
Florence, Siena, Assisi are just over an hours drive awa. Lake Trasimeno with water sports, riding and seafood restaurant can be reached in 20 minutes. |
