This house is very large and has plenty of room for the whole family! The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans to make cooking there a breeze. The beds are comfortable and bedrooms are spacious. The area is nicely located with lots of activities within a 30min drive. The river is across the street and is simply a delight to look at. For those who enjoy fresh foods: The Capitol Market in Charleston is wonderful! You can find everything from meat to veggies that are locally grown. There are plenty of restaurants nearby for those who don't like to cook. The neighbors are very helpful and usually can answer any questions. We really enjoyed our stay and plan to stay again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children.

Year Purchased: 2004
About: My husband and I grew up Detroit, Michigan and the Detroit River, moved to Madison, Indiana and live 4 blocks from the Ohio River. We purchased a retreat home in Glen Ferris, West Virginia to enjoy the river and mountain views. We thoroughly enjoy boating, whitewater rafting and fishing. This allowed us to have a place to retreat, dine out, hike, boat, enjoy nature and the mountains not too far from home. We love our New River Retreat home in Glen Ferris.
Why Glen Ferris:
Glen Ferris, West Virginia is just 45 minutes from Charleston where there are many fine restaurants, antique stores and a downtown shopping malls. Typically we will spend a day in Charleston having fun, a day or two whitewater rafting in Fayetteville, a day in Lewisburg and White Sufphur Springs, a day boating and swiming at New River Gorge Recreation/Baach Area. We havetried the new New River Treetops Canopy Tour that combines bird watching, tree id, enviromental awareness and adrenaline rush on the sky bridges and rappel zip lines.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This rental property is extremely easy to find coming from Charleston, W. Va. Anstead has a very nice walking/biking trail just 20 minutes from the home. There are numerous rafting companies within a half hour drive. The newest tourist attraction in Fayette County mountainside canopy tour and sky platforms. They are available through New River Gorge Canopy Tours. The canopy tour offers high-altitude excitement as you zip along a cable over a one mile area. The views are breathtaking and canop-goers range in age from 20 to senors. If you combine this outdoor adventure with whitewater rafting and/or the jetboat at Hawks Nest State park it makes for a fun and exciting week of fun. The two highly recommended restaurants of Smokey's on the Gorge and The Feedbox and both less than an hours drive away should deffinately be ad added atraction to Fayette County tourist. The Food is great and views are awesome. For the fisherman of your family they are many great fishing areas and waterfalls to discover.
