Why the Owner Chose Big Pine Key
Because we had rented vacation homes througout the Keys we knew what each area had to offer. We prefered oceanside rather than gulfside because the ocean breeze keeps it much cooler. We wanted a home on a secluded beach directly on the ocean and with a dock where we could keep our boat. Not an easy combination to find. We didn't want to live in Key West but to be near enough so we could spend a day or evening there and have a short drive home. Key West is always fun and interesting and we love the historic archtecture. When we found Long Beach we thought is was perfect and made an offer the first day we saw our house. We have had it now for 16 years and still can't believe how lucky we are whenever we are there.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We swim, boat, fish ,kayak, look for lobster---or just relax under the chikee at the end of the 165' dock or on the beach and watch the deer and water birds come and go. You can swim and fish right off the dock. The reef is 6 miles out and Looe Key is the best snorkeling destination in the Keys. The back country islands await on the other side of No Name Bridge. Long Beach Road is great for walking or biking, and canoeing in Coupon Bight just across the road from our house is always eventful. You can kayak in the ocean as the water is protected by the reef and is often calm. Coupon Bight is a stone's through away. The beach at nearby Bahia Honda State Park is long and wide and always fun to explore. Then there is Key West. It is only a 30 min. drive and the drive on the Overseas Highway is beautiful. There are excellent restaurants, museums, art galleries, and of course lots of bars on Duval St. Its always crowded and fun but you will be glad to get back to the tranquility of your private, beachside home.
Owner's Map of Big Pine Key
We are both attorneys and met in law school at Florida State University. We live in Coral Gables, FL which is about 3 hours from our vacation home on Big Pine Key. We first went to Key West on our honeymoon. When our two sons were young we rented vacation houses all over the island chain for a month or two every summer. Our boys learned to swim and dive here and loved the fishing and boating and still do. We always enjoyed our stays in the Keys and looked for a house to buy for several years. We found our dream home in 1993 and have never had a boring day there.

Can't say enough about how perfect this vacation turned out to be! The property was everything it was advertised to be, and then some. Truly private and peaceful, yet close to everything. Owner was incredibly generous and helpful, and the house was stocked with more amenities than we ever expected. Location was great, we were able to see Key Deer, Osprey, Ibis, Pelicans, Porpoise, Rays, and much more from the beach and dock. We caught lobster several times right off the beach and the hubby caught Barracuda and Bonnethead shark from the chickee. We would love to stay here again, and would definately recommend it to friends and family!

I stayed with me wife at this location and we had a great time. Richard was very helpful getting us established and was even able to point us in the right direction for local restaurants. The location is fantastic, private but with all the amenities nearby. The home is directly on a private stretch of beach with a long idyllic dock. Pine Key is located only 30 minutes from Key West but still a very easy drive from the mainland. One day I even decided to cast a line off the dock and enjoy a drink in peace and quiet and the next thing i know I had a Bonnethead shark! Dont worry, they are small and are incapable of harming humans. A must stay for anyone wanting to visit the keys and a perfect paradise for those just wanting to get away. -Dan
