The Brigman-Chambers House is on the National Register of Historic Places, and what an incredible home - perfect for your special reunion or small group gathering. The main living/dining area of the Brigman House has been remodeled from the original log structure, set on this spot in 1840. The rest of this lovely home was vastly added onto as a "major renovation" back in 1890 when the "little log cabin" became a Country Inn. Over one hundred years later, & just short of a demolition, the Brigman-Chambers house received yet another full face-lift & re-construction. Totally & lovingly restored in 2003, the Brigman House has all the charm of yesteryear with all the modern conveniences of today.

There are 5 delightful bedrooms & 4.5 baths in the Main House (another 2 BR 2 BA in the detached cabin). Each bedroom will accommodate two to four guests, for a maximum capacity of 15 guests. All of the bedrooms have in-room fireplaces with gas logs, many with private & full baths, and some with spa tubs. Special touches, including wide plank floors & tiling, original rock fireplaces with delightful mantles & stone hearths, whimsical wall-papers, comfortable antique furnishings, wonderful quilts, sheets & towels - all surround you in a casual yet pampered feel.

For larger groups, add BreakAway Cabin to your reservation. BreakAway Cabin is just steps away and with an additional 2 BR & 2BA there is room for up to 6 more guests, for a total of 7 BR, 6.5 BA.

In the Main House, two spacious family rooms allow you to spread out in comfort. Several porches - upstairs & down - are available to sit upon, relax, read, enjoy the views, or just find a quiet moment. A modern kitchen, with top notch appliances & all amenities, opens out into the original log cabin living/dining room area with rock hearth & fireplace. A gas grill is just out the back door (although most guests use this as the front door) & a cozy lawn will lure you out for an afternoon beverage and cookout.

Location, Location, Location!! Lovely views & a creek!, yet convenient - just 6 miles from Asheville city limits - downtown Asheville is an easy 12 miles away (buy your discounted Biltmore Estate tickets directly from us if you like) - or enjoy the quaint & enjoyable walking town of Weaverville, just minutes from The Brigman House - go antiquing & gift shopping there at the fun & funky Restoration Hardware Store, or one of the many local artist galleries (The Art Safari, featuring the many local artists of the area, is at the end of April & the beginning of November, each year and is WONDERFUL!!), enjoy the incredible Secret Garden Spa or have a cup of coffee & pastry at the Well Bred Bakery & Cafe. Reems Creek Golf Course is just 2 miles from the Brigman House; the Vance Birthplace is about 2/10 of a mile away (a delightful mountain state park & Historic Site with picnic spot & "living" museum); and access to the Blue Ridge Parkway National Park is easy... just take scenic Ox Creek road, for a 4 mile scenic drive, to access trails, hiking, motor touring, cycling & all the Blue Ridge Mountains have to offer.

Whether looking for convenience to all of what Asheville & Western North Carolina Mountains have to offer, or enjoying the luxuries right where you are, the Brigman House location has it all!

3 night minimum stay requirement in "shoulder seasons," 4 night minimum stay requirement in October, 5 night minimum stay requirement from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends, Thanksgiving week and Winter Holiday Weeks (first Friday in Dec. before Christmas Day through 1st Sunday after New Years Day).

Owner's Map of Asheville

Byron & Mary Bridges are the owners of Vacation In Asheville (VIA-NC), Oakland Cottage B&B, The Historic Brigman House & Vacation Rentals.

Both Mary & Byron were raised in North Carolina and in their "younger days" were avid outdoor enthusiasts, working for several local outdoor companies, such as Nantahala Outdoor Center, North Carolina Outbound School and Eagles Nest Foundation (Mary still serves on the Board) - all organizations based out of the Mountains of North Carolina. This early work left them with knowledge of and love for the outdoors of Western NC. Later in life (once some reality about work set in), the two founded, owned & operated a Leadership Development Company, which is still in operation today. Through this work they developed and led leadership seminars & management programs all over the world. Not only have they experienced a great deal of travel themselves – and know what it feels like to be travelers - they ironically have very little need or desire to travel much anymore, preferring to stay right at home in Asheville. More recently, The Bridges adopted a child from Russia,- another reason the extensive travel just became too much, and probably why VIA-NC remains focused on family friendliness.
The Bridges' extensive travels worldwide, intensive “people work,” entrepreneurial spirit and values around family have led them to where they are today; VIA-NC - Oakland Cottage Bed and Breakfast & Vacation Rentals - is a perfect fit.
