First off, we love HHI and had a wonderful holiday, among the best ever! The house was very clean, comfortable with wonderful beds and a great location that is close to restaurants and the beach (more than just steps however!), the Palmetto Tennis club, golf courses are really close and the house is very central to all locations on the island. The website is accurate and Cynthia was highly responsive and helpful. While in HHI we were frequently asked 'why would Californians, who live near a beach come to HHI?" the answer "we have cold water and if you want this quality and location you will need to spend 3x as much.! HHI is wonderful". Riding bikes on the beach and island paths was wonderful, we also kayaked, took a tour to Bluffton and generally had a wonderful relaxing time. A couple of negative points that I hope can improve this rental for our next visit! 1) Please provide beach towels as it is impossible to bring them with us and it was a great nuisance to discover we needed to go shopping before we could go to the beach 2) Please provide more than 1 roll of TP - they only cost 50 cents but are really unpleasant to discover when there are all gone! 3) Make sure the propane is adequate for at least a few meals - we don't mind buying propane when we use it, but did not appreciate discovering we would not be eating our steaks as planned because there was no gas. These were little items but big annoyances. All said, we will be back!

Owner response: Partick, thank you for reviewing our vacation home! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay on the Island! We strive to make your time in Hilton Head comfortable and accommodating. In response to your suggestions...1) Although we would like to provide you with everything you need, unfortunately the local cleaning services do not launder beach towels. Since we can't expect our guests to launder them for us upon their departure, we are unable to provide beach towel service. You should have been aware of this as it is explicitly stated in the rental agreement, and I think you will find that this is the case with most rental homes on the Island. 2) Normally we leave 2 double rolls of toilet paper per bathroom. It is possible that at the end of the summer the supplies were running low. I will notify the cleaning service and ask them to be sure to leave 2 rolls in the future. 3) As stated in the rental packet you received, we rely on our renters to exchange the propane tank when it is empty. This can be done at the Palmetto Dunes General Store which is within walking distance from the house. Next summer we will buy an extra tank and leave it in the garage, but we still can't guarantee that it will not run out at some point if the renter ahead of you is not considerate enough to exchange the empty tank. We are happy to reimburse you for the cost of up to one tank of propane during your stay.
Wonderful week in Hilton Head!
Wonderful week in Hilton Head!
Our family had a great stay in Hilton Head. The house was exactly as described in the listing, & made for a very comfortable vacation accommodation. The short walk to the beach made it so convenient to go back & forth during the day.

Beautiful home with close access to the beach!
Beautiful home with close access to the beach!
This was the first time we actually took a week long vacation and the first time my husband, kids, and mom had ever been to the ocean. The home was beautiful and it was within walking distance to the beach which was a definite plus. My kids loved the pool but it was alittle chilly to me probably because it was the end of May and the trees surrounding it. I would probably get it heated if we rented again or wait until later in the summer. The only other issue we had was with the palmetto bugs in the grill. We chose to purchase a small bbq grill for the amount of cooking we did. Other than that, the house was perfect. It was plenty big for all of us and we had everything we needed there especially when it came to cooking. The kitchen had every pot, pan, glass, and silverware you could ask for, along with plenty of plates and bowls. The appliances in the kitchen were also very nice. All in all, you have an beautiful home in a great location and we look forward to coming back again. :) Thank you for letting us borrow your home for the week we were there!

Owner response: Thank you for your kind review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay! We also recommend heating the pool for anyone renting prior to Memorial Day who prefers the water temperature to be above 80 degrees. Especially this year, with the unusually cool & wet Spring weather we had. Unfortunately there is very little we can do about the weather, or the trees since we are not allowed to remove them. The trees actually help keep the house cool during the summer months, while the pool area still gets plenty of mid day sun. We provide a propane grill for the convenience of our renters in the hope that they will clean & cover it after each use. It sounds like that may have not been the case when you arrived and I apologize for that. There was an extraordinary amount of rain on the Island this Spring, which provided a perfect moist environment for the bugs. They are much less of a problem now that the weather is drier. The house is sprayed on a monthly basis, both indoors and out to keep the bugs away.
Perfect for Our Needs
Perfect for Our Needs
We rented this house for a long weekend. We were in Hilton Head for a wedding, and many of the activities took place or originated from the nearby Marriott, so the location was ideal. The house was just what we expected and needed for four couples. The pool was nice, definitely glad we had it heated in May, and the walk to the beach was manageable, but probably 10-15 minutes. The owner was very responsive to email and helpful even while we were there. The only issue was that some guests arriving via cab had to pay $10 just to get dropped off inside the security gate. As a result, some people walked to the security gate when meeting cabs to avoid paying the extra fee. Would certainly recommend the place to renters looking in Palmetto Dunes.

Owner response: Thank you for the review! I'm very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay in Hilton Head! I checked into the taxi situation withthe Palmetto Dunes Security Office and was told that there are certain taxi companies that have anuual decals to get into the gated areas of Palmetto Dunes. I am working on getting a list of those companies so that I can include the list with with my information package. You can also ask the taxi company about these extra fees when you call them, and if they say there is a $10 fee you can refuse and try calling someone else. There is a shortcut to the beach that follows a pedestrian bridge over the canal. As you exit the house, take a right onto St. George, walk about 300 feet and you will see the entrance to the pedestrian bridge/walkway on your left. It shouldn't be more than 5 minutes to get to the beach at a normal pace, 8 minutes if you are taking a more leisurely pace. Cynthia

We rented this home based on the reviews on the Home Away web page. There were several parts of the home that were broken and two were very dangerous. Several balusters on the deck are breaking away from the deck flooring and the fiberglass unit in the main bathroom shower/tub is breaking away from the wall. A glass shower door is hanging from that end of the unit. All of the other issues were deplorable but not dangerous. This was our vacation and the house was a huge disappointment. Upon our return home, we contacted the owners and voiced our disgust with their home and they replied by saying the house is a family vacation home and not a resort. There were so many things wrong: broken chairs, doors that would not close and doors to the deck that would not open or were too hard to open. The owner's answers to us was "it's a home and things break and that their price is lower. The owner has advised that the broken items have been fixed since our departure. They should have been fixed before we arrived.....not when we were there or after we left. We would not recommend this house to anyone.

Owner response: We are very sorry you were disappointed with your stay at our vacation home. We pride ourselves in paying attention to detail and in providing a comfortable & fully equipped vacation home to our guests at a reasonable price. This is evidenced by the many positive reviews, notes and e-mails we get from our renters. We have many families that come back to the house year after year. It is a great house, in a great location, at a great price! That said as in any home, particularly a rental home, there are times when things break and need attention. We regret this, but respond immediately whenever this happens. First and foremost I would like to say that at no time was anyone in danger. We inspected the property immediately after your departure. A ballaster was loose, but the two surrounding it were firm and there was no way for an adult or child to fit through the space. The tub was also safe. We always respond immediately to any issues that are noticed by our renters, as we did to yours. We called maintenance right away once we heard from you, however you REFUSED to let them come into the house to make the repairs. A landlord has the right to enter the house to make repairs, but you refused, and we respected your wishes. In addition we gave you a $200 refund for your inconveniences. We feel that this was very generous on our part. We immediately entered the property upon your departure and repaired the items that you mention above. We fixed the tub/shower, ballasters, doors and purchased new chairs for the screen porch. All were very minor repairs that could have been done quickly while you were at the beach or out for a bike ride. You refused to let us come in, saying that you were fine with the situation. Why you are writing in the review now just doesn't make sense. If these things were so important to you, you should have let us come in to fix them. You are writing this unfair review now because you want us to give you more money. You want a free vacation. We have already given you $200. We feel that is more than suffcient for your minor inconveniences. Cynthia Femano

We had a great time in Palmetto Dunes. Our house was furnished nicely, clean and maintained properly. It is a great place to stay. The beach was less then 5 minutes away walking. Shopping, restaurants, and groceries were all only minutes away. We took a tour of Savannah which was less then an hour away and so much fun. Our party had 6 people, we all had our privacy and no one felt confined. I would like to see less vegetation in the pool area, but I am sure there are many who love it that way. A city girl at heart. I would recommend this listing. The owner was easily accessible.

I could not have been more pleased with the location of this house. We were a 5 minute walk to the beach or a 5 minute bike ride if you went the longer way on the main roads. We were also just a 5 minute ride to the General Store and Kayaking, which we recommend doing. The upstairs loft is great for the children and the 3 bedrooms are pleny big enough to spread out. We also enjoyed most our meals on the screened in porch. The back deck and grill were great to sit and relax while the pool was available for a quick swim. We spent most of our time at the beach to soak in the sun, but those who want to avoid the sun will find the pool area is shaded with large trees. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and the owner was always available during the entire renting process and our stay. The beach chairs available in the garage was a nice addition as well. Thank you!

We spent a week in this lovely home and were very happy with it. We were five adults and a baby and had plenty of room. Every morning we had breakfast on the screened porch. The house was clean and well maintained. Kudos to the owner for keeping it nice. The only thing I would want is more sun on the pool. There was little sun on it.

Our family had a wonderful time at this house. It was the perfect size for all of us, the pool was used constantly, as was the barbecue, and it was within a short walk to the beautiful beach. The biking, golfing and kayaking were all activities which we made use of, but the kids liked the pool best. The kitchen is on the small side, but is well equipped. Cynthia was very accessible if we had any questions and always responded quickly. There are some cosmetic issues which need to be attended to by the owner, but this is a house that we would definitely rent again.
