We rented this house for a long weekend. We were in Hilton Head for a wedding, and many of the activities took place or originated from the nearby Marriott, so the location was ideal. The house was just what we expected and needed for four couples. The pool was nice, definitely glad we had it heated in May, and the walk to the beach was manageable, but probably 10-15 minutes. The owner was very responsive to email and helpful even while we were there. The only issue was that some guests arriving via cab had to pay $10 just to get dropped off inside the security gate. As a result, some people walked to the security gate when meeting cabs to avoid paying the extra fee. Would certainly recommend the place to renters looking in Palmetto Dunes.Owner response: Thank you for the review! I'm very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay in Hilton Head! I checked into the taxi situation withthe Palmetto Dunes Security Office and was told that there are certain taxi companies that have anuual decals to get into the gated areas of Palmetto Dunes. I am working on getting a list of those companies so that I can include the list with with my information package. You can also ask the taxi company about these extra fees when you call them, and if they say there is a $10 fee you can refuse and try calling someone else. There is a shortcut to the beach that follows a pedestrian bridge over the canal. As you exit the house, take a right onto St. George, walk about 300 feet and you will see the entrance to the pedestrian bridge/walkway on your left. It shouldn't be more than 5 minutes to get to the beach at a normal pace, 8 minutes if you are taking a more leisurely pace. Cynthia

We rented this home based on the reviews on the Home Away web page. There were several parts of the home that were broken and two were very dangerous. Several balusters on the deck are breaking away from the deck flooring and the fiberglass unit in the main bathroom shower/tub is breaking away from the wall. A glass shower door is hanging from that end of the unit. All of the other issues were deplorable but not dangerous. This was our vacation and the house was a huge disappointment. Upon our return home, we contacted the owners and voiced our disgust with their home and they replied by saying the house is a family vacation home and not a resort. There were so many things wrong: broken chairs, doors that would not close and doors to the deck that would not open or were too hard to open. The owner's answers to us was "it's a home and things break and that their price is lower. The owner has advised that the broken items have been fixed since our departure. They should have been fixed before we arrived.....not when we were there or after we left. We would not recommend this house to anyone.Owner response: We are very sorry you were disappointed with your stay at our vacation home. We pride ourselves in paying attention to detail and in providing a comfortable & fully equipped vacation home to our guests at a reasonable price. This is evidenced by the many positive reviews, notes and e-mails we get from our renters. We have many families that come back to the house year after year. It is a great house, in a great location, at a great price! That said as in any home, particularly a rental home, there are times when things break and need attention. We regret this, but respond immediately whenever this happens. First and foremost I would like to say that at no time was anyone in danger. We inspected the property immediately after your departure. A ballaster was loose, but the two surrounding it were firm and there was no way for an adult or child to fit through the space. The tub was also safe. We always respond immediately to any issues that are noticed by our renters, as we did to yours. We called maintenance right away once we heard from you, however you REFUSED to let them come into the house to make the repairs. A landlord has the right to enter the house to make repairs, but you refused, and we respected your wishes. In addition we gave you a $200 refund for your inconveniences. We feel that this was very generous on our part. We immediately entered the property upon your departure and repaired the items that you mention above. We fixed the tub/shower, ballasters, doors and purchased new chairs for the screen porch. All were very minor repairs that could have been done quickly while you were at the beach or out for a bike ride. You refused to let us come in, saying that you were fine with the situation. Why you are writing in the review now just doesn't make sense. If these things were so important to you, you should have let us come in to fix them. You are writing this unfair review now because you want us to give you more money. You want a free vacation. We have already given you $200. We feel that is more than suffcient for your minor inconveniences. Cynthia Femano

We had a great time in Palmetto Dunes. Our house was furnished nicely, clean and maintained properly. It is a great place to stay. The beach was less then 5 minutes away walking. Shopping, restaurants, and groceries were all only minutes away. We took a tour of Savannah which was less then an hour away and so much fun. Our party had 6 people, we all had our privacy and no one felt confined. I would like to see less vegetation in the pool area, but I am sure there are many who love it that way. A city girl at heart. I would recommend this listing. The owner was easily accessible.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

I could not have been more pleased with the location of this house. We were a 5 minute walk to the beach or a 5 minute bike ride if you went the longer way on the main roads. We were also just a 5 minute ride to the General Store and Kayaking, which we recommend doing. The upstairs loft is great for the children and the 3 bedrooms are pleny big enough to spread out. We also enjoyed most our meals on the screened in porch. The back deck and grill were great to sit and relax while the pool was available for a quick swim. We spent most of our time at the beach to soak in the sun, but those who want to avoid the sun will find the pool area is shaded with large trees. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and the owner was always available during the entire renting process and our stay. The beach chairs available in the garage was a nice addition as well. Thank you!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We spent a week in this lovely home and were very happy with it. We were five adults and a baby and had plenty of room. Every morning we had breakfast on the screened porch. The house was clean and well maintained. Kudos to the owner for keeping it nice. The only thing I would want is more sun on the pool. There was little sun on it.Did you find this review helpful? Our family had a wonderful time at this house. It was the perfect size for all of us, the pool was used constantly, as was the barbecue, and it was within a short walk to the beautiful beach. The biking, golfing and kayaking were all activities which we made use of, but the kids liked the pool best. The kitchen is on the small side, but is well equipped. Cynthia was very accessible if we had any questions and always responded quickly. There are some cosmetic issues which need to be attended to by the owner, but this is a house that we would definitely rent again.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My family and I traveled to Hilton Head for the first time and our vacation was spectacular thanks to the Cynthia's beautiful home. We had plenty of room for everyone and we were more than comfortable. The house was clean, decorated well, and had everything we needed for our week stay. The beach itself was very family friendly with bike paths, a shuttle service to the beach, and a welcoming community. I highly recommend this home for any family looking to have the perfect vacation.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

This was our first multi-family beach vacation. We had 6 adults and 4 children ages 13-5. The house was perfect for all us! The bedrooms were very large and there was ample eating areas from the kitchen bar, kitchen table, screened in porch, outdoor patio set and the beautiful dinning room. Everyone had their own space with the loft being perfect for the kids-it was large enough for all of them to sleep, play and just hang out while still being in eye and earshot of the adults. The walk to the beach was nice, it was about 5-8 minutes across non-busy streets with great paths and beautiful scenery....we walked to and from the beach 4 times a day and it was never a problem even with the young kids. For us the drawbacks were that we wish it had a bit bigger kitchen and dealing with little kids on the spiral staircase, but these were things we easily dealt with and were not a major problem. Overall, this is a great place for any family! Thank you for sharing your home with us.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

My parents and I vacationed here in this Palmetto Dunes home for a few days in early April. Gorgeous Palmetto Dunes is in the center of everything. The house was clean, cozy, and large enough for all of us to spread out however we wished. Everything worked and was provided for as stated in listing. My mom enjoyed having peaceful breakfasts on the screened porch, while I couldn't get enough of the heated pool and hot tub! If you decide to bike (and you should ) the companies that rent will leave the bikes waiting for you right in the driveway and will come pick them up when you leave. The entire area begs to be explored on your bike and I never tired of pedaling over to the beach ( about a 5 minute walk away from house) to ride sunrise and sunset. Would not hesitate to stay here again. Thank You !Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
