70 Acre Historic Mountain Home - 11 Mile Reservoir
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This is a lovely historic cabin, nestled in the woods at 9000 ft., with a rainbow trout stocked pond just a few feet away. The cabin, 100 years old, has been completely restored for beauty and comfort. This romantic log house has a fully equipped modern kitchen, a main floor master bedroom with a queen size bed and bath with a claw foot tub. The upstairs has two bedrooms, one with twin beds and one with a double bed. The upstairs bathroom has a walk in shower. A portable crib and high chair are available in the cabin. The home has stained glass throughout and is filled with antique and rustic furniture. The woodburning fireplace was built from rocks in the area. The cabin sits on 70 acres with two additional ponds and is 'user friendly' for hiking.
The cabin is surrounded by a 4000 acre ranch with private roads that are excellent for mountain biking (bikes not provided). This vacation home is perfect for honeymoons, active families, or quiet get-aways. A full-size sit down Pacman game will keep all ages entertained. The wrap around porch is perfect for watching sunsets, wildlife and the many birds that frequent the area. The sky and the stars are incredible. The porch has a picnic table that seats 10.
Located near 11 Mile Reservoir which has excellent fishing. It is perfect for day trips to the small historic town of Guffey, Pikes Peak, the Royal Gorge in Canon City, Breckenridge Ski Resort, Fossil Beds National Monument and the Hornbeck Homestead near Florissant, the historic town of Cripple Creek for gambling , or Colorado Springs, the home of the Garden of the Gods and the Air Force Academy. Above Cripple Creek lies the largest active gold mine in the United States, and above the gold mine is the old mining town of Victor. An hours drive away is the Arkansas River for white water rafting. Or you might want to just relax, hike the 70 acres around the cabin, or fish for rainbow trout in the pond in front of the cabin.
The cabin has been in our family for many years and this is the eighth season we have opened it to the outside world. We hope if you decide to try it, you will derive the same joy and peace we have experienced from it.
Bunk house with loft, which sleeps four to six, close to the main cabin may be rented for an additional fee. This charming 'bunk house' is small but comfortable. It has electricity, electric toilet, satellite TV but no running water. It has an antique, mission style double bed on the first floor and a loft that sleeps 4-6 comfortably.

Time to talk, time to fish, time to eat and enjoy each other's company. My family is already asking when we are coming back to stay again. Thanks, Pat, for giving us a chance to reconnect and recharge. It was just what my family needed.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We just finished a wonderful week on the Cohen homestead. The cabin and property was perfect for my family of 6. I really cannot think of anything that the cabin was lacking. Bring food and drink and you're set. Dish TV, swings for the kids, fishing tackle, gas and charcoal grills, it was turn-key. What makes this property so special is the solitude. I found myself soaking it like a sponge. Yes, there are neighbors but they are a hill or two away: actually unnoticed. You will catch trout in the pond, see lots of wildlife (porcupine, antelope, deer, elk), smell the aspens, and hear the wind blow thru the pines. You can hardly put a value on this. If you need a bit of civilization, take a drive to Cripple Creek and ride the train, see the museums, heck - food was cheaper there than in the Tulsa area (our home). A little further is Victor with great antique shops, museums, and soda fountain (check out the malts at the Fortune Club). We brought a Landcruiser so we hit as many 4x4 passes as we could. I have to say "thank you" to Pat for making her cabin and property available. She has thought things out so well. You can tell that she really wants to make your stay the best it can be. I checked out almost every property on VRBO in Colorado and settled on this one. I would do it again in a heartbeat!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you, Tommy, for that wonderful review! We know this was your family's first visit to our cabin and land and we hope you can return again next year.

We so much enjoyed the cabin. It was at 9,000 feet so the days were mild and the nights were cool. The cabin is secluded even though there are neighbors. It was so quiet, it was amazing. The kids had fun fishing in the pond and we all enjoyed the variety of wildlife that was on or near the property. The views from the cabin and the area were absolutely wonderful. The cabin was well kept as well as very homey and comfortable. The claw foot tub was a special treat as well as the Pac-Man game. We will definitely visit again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thanks Sherry for the great review of our cabin and property! We look forward to your next visit.

This is our third year staying at the cabin and as always the experience is wonderful. It is so relaxing and peaceful to be out in the mountains and to have nature all around us. The kids loved walking the property and seeing the wildlife that was around. Even though we are in the mountains in what seems like a million miles away from anyone (that's a good thing!) we are still close enough to go sight seeing to the surrounding areas like Canyon City or Cripple Creek. Thanks again for letting us stay in your cabin.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Our repeat visitors are a wonderful validation that our cabin is worth more than one look! Thank you for this great review!

My husband and I and our 3 year old twin boys loved our vacation at this awesome cabin. The interior of the cabin was so cozy and comfortable, and had plenty of room for the 4 of us. The outdoors was amazing- beautiful scenery and so much room to play and explore! Perfect for three year old boys. We spent two days just at the cabin - did not need to go anywhere. We hiked around on the land, and our boys even got to fish for the first time! The front porch was one of our favorite spots, especially every morning when a family of geese came right up to the cabin to greet us. We are so glad we found this place!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are so happy that this family experienced the wonders of our cabin and land that we love: our cozy and private cabin, our stocked pond which is a few feet from the front door, and our user-friendly land. These renters took a chance and stayed in Colorado even though our state was experiencing epic wildfires!

This was our 2nd trip to this beautiful cabin and we had a blast. The 2nd vest vacation ever!! We can't wait to go back. Our kids ran all over, we hiked up castle mountain, we swam in the water hole just down the road. We visited Cripple Creek and went down 1000 ft into an old mine, we went white water rafting, horseback riding.....loved being so secluded at the cabin but there r so many things to see and do, just a short drive basically in any direction from the cabin. We really enjoyed going to the Bull Moose in Guffy, the food was great and the people were so nice, the entertainment was awesome even our kids got into it, clapping and banging on the table to a variety of old tunes, from Buddy Holly, Elvis......it was great. We net so many nice folks, but the one that really made an impression on us was Bob! such a nice guy he let our kids ride horses, ride goats gave them tips on how to trap and catch squirrels and rabbits...which the mastered very quickly!! Of course it was catch and release only!!!! We have been many places but this place is incredible, an unforgettable vacation both times we went! Thanks Pat!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We loved our stay in this historic mountain home. Right away we new the covered front porch would be our favorite spot during the day when we weren't out exploring the property or the Pikes Peak area. Walking into the inviting cabin you knew you were in for a restful, relaxing stay with all the comforts of home - the claw foot tub was a luxury! Laying in the lounge chairs on the open deck late into the night watching the night sky move overhead was magical. As much as I would like to keep this cabin a hidden treasure, it would not be fair to prevent others the opportunity to experience the restorative nature of this beautiful home and the love that has been put in every thoughtful part of it.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: The best advertisement for our property is a satisfied renter. We know Maureen and her family were satisfied because they are coming back next year!

There isn't enough words to describe our visit, Heaven on Earth. The pictures don't do it justice. From the moment we pulled up I was totally relaxed, and felt right at home. The sights are awesome. I spent many days just sitting on the porch taking in all the breathtaking landscapes. My family took in plenty of activities in the area. The Royale Gorge, 11 mile reservoir, downtown Cripple Creek, even a local canyon (paradise cove, or Brown's canyon) with it's own swimming hole. Not to mention all the hills that we ventured up, just to check out the different views of the mountains. If you thinking of staying here, don't. JUST DO IT!!! You won't be disapointed.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you, Matthew, for your kind words. We are always so happy when a guest enjoys our cabin and property.

Beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The accommodations are wonderful! I would and have recommended to anyone who is interested in staying in Colorado. We spent about a week at the ranch and enjoyed the serenity it offered. It is such a peaceful place and that's why we keep returning. My husband and I get to rest and enjoy the scenery and the children get to explore the land. Thanks again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you, Rose, for the compliments re:our cabin and land. We still are amazed when we sit on the porch and see the beauty of the rolling hills, meadows, and mountains in the distance. Our land is wonderful to explore!

My family spent a week here at the cabin. It was not enough time. We drove from Austin and arrived about two hours before checkin time. They were still cleaning it from the last renters, but graciously allowed us to come on in and stretch our feet, unload our stuff and check everything out. Upon driving up to the cabin, I had to catch my breath...literally. The view took my breath away. I was stunned with how absolutely beautiful the scenery was and almost cried. In fact during our entire stay, it would always take me just a moment to take it all in and allow myself to realize that natural beauty like this does indeed exist in the world. The cabin was beyond comfortable. Every comfort of home is here. There was more than enough space for the seven of us. My family LOVED staying here. We took up the whole property including the bunkhouse. Everyone was more than comfortable. The electric toilet was a little intimidating at first, but the instructions were very clear and easy. We fished, hiked, biked and sat on the bank of the pond and on the porch the whole time and loved catching the different colors of the sky as the weather changed from snow, to sleet, to sunshine, to rain and from chilly to perfect in JUNE. We even got a double rainbow at one point. You can see forever! I absolutely loved every moment of our time here. Tiny baby bunnies would hop onto the porch to check us out. If you are a bird watcher, this is the place for you. The hummingbirds would come and practically sit on your shoulder. I'm not kidding. There is a wooden swing sitting amongst the Aspens overlooking the pond - a perfect place to wind down or take a nap (like our three year old did). This place is magical! Do not hesitate to take the time to come here. You'll be very glad you did. Thank you Pat!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Anna has captured the essence and heart of our cabin and land! We are always so happy when a family enjoys their visit and feels our cabin and its decorations (our land) are special! Thank you Anna, for putting into wonderful language exactly how our family feels.
