Those less adventuresome can drive to the top via the Mount Battie State Park entrance. Either way the reward is a marvelous view of the harbor, bay, and outlying islands.
If you would rather not cook your own lobsters in our convenient outdoor propane lobster and shellfish pot, take a walk to the wharf for a lobster feast at Bayview Lobster, Inc., a cup of delicious New England chowder at Cappy's or venture where the locals hang out at Cuzzy's and have a Maine micro-brew beer. You may also want to reserve a spot on one of the various wooden sailing schooners for a tour of Penobscot Bay or learn to kayak with Maine Sports Kayak Tours. Town events include the Camden Food and Wine Festival in June, Country Roads Artist & Artisans Tour in September, and Christmas By the Sea early December. Camden also offers a wide variety of restaurants, gourmet food and wine purveyors and unique shops where you can find upscale clothing, local pottery/art, antiques, and more.
WONDERFULLY LOCATED IN MIDCOAST MAINE, Camden is a great stepping stone from which to discover the pleasures of the seacoast as well as an array of exciting day trips to the north and south. Rivers and lakes abound for fishing and nearby towns and cities provide history and cultural amenities. Charming Cottage Just a Stroll to Beautiful Camden Harbor
Year Purchased: 2002
Owner's Map of Camden
My husband, Keith, grew up on the coast of Maine, therefore it was inevitable we would eventually own a house in Maine--although we live and work in Florida! We love our time in Camden and believe anyone who visits will also fall in love with the area. If you love nature, hiking, kayaking, sailing--or just enjoying the beautiful northeast climate and scenery--we urge you to spend some time in Camden and surrounding midcoast Maine! -Michelle & Keith

We stayed at Wicker cottage during July 2010 and August 2011 and would love to return again. Camden is a picturesque harbour town with New England charm, lovely gardens and a terrific library. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly with offstreet parking near the front door. The first floor living area is comfortable with 3 separate areas: kitchen/eating space, family room for games and reading and a separate living room with TV/DVD. A glass door can be used to close off the living room. Compared to other properties we saw, Wicker cottage's interior design and furnishings are very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. We enjoyed the side porch, gas grill and lovely flower garden. There are helpful guides for places to visit, attractions and restaurant menus. Market Basket in Rockport offers delicious take-out entrees, sides and sandwiches. The Camden Farmers' Market provides a wonderful variety of vegetables and specialty foods that make meal preparation very easy on the chef who wants a vacation too! Having air conditioning on the living and bedroom levels is a major plus.

My wife and I very much enjoyed our week at Wicker Cottage. The weather was hot and humid, so we made good use of the air conditioning. We also appreciated the fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, and wireless internet. The living spaces and bedrooms are cheery and comfortable. Other highlights included walking from the cottage to the top of Mt. Battie, numerous strolls to Camden harbor, and waking up each morning to the beautiful sounds of songbirds and loons. Overall, a wonderful place to stay.

We had a great stay. The house is in a great location, with only a couple of blocks walk to downtown Camden, the shops and the harbor. The house is very comfortable and the owner has provided absolutely everything you need during your stay. We've stayed in at least ten VRBO homes and this is the best equipped yet. We also enjoyed Mt Battie and its incredible views. We would definitely rent this place again.

We loved our stay in Camden. The WIcker Cottage is very comfortable and decorated beautifully. The cottage is very clean and the description and pictures matched what we found when we arrived. The Weltys have thought of everything and more. The location was ideal for us. We enjoyed being in walking distance to town and all the restaurants and hiking to the top of Mt. Battie.

From the time we entered the cottage until it was time to leave, we felt at home! Wicker Cottage is a wonderful place to enjoy Camden and the coast of Maine. All of the rooms were cheerful with comfortable beds and lush towels in the bathroom. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the basics and then some! We thoroughly enjoyed both the deck and patio both morning and evening. You couldn't ask for a better location in Camden. A short 5 minute walk puts you right in the center of town. Acadia National Park and Pemaquid Light House are great day trips from the cottage. Make sure that you stop by and visit Cellardoor Winery, a short 10 minute drive from the cottage. The wines are great and the owner and her staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about wines. I would highly recommend this property. I look forward to returning to Wicker Cottage and Camden.

Had a really nice stay at Wicker Cottage - the only downside was that I couldn't stay longer! We rented the cottage as a gift for my parents, and my sister & I joined them for a few days of their stay. The cottage itself was extremely well maintained, impeccably clean and very charmingly decorated. It offered all the comforts of home, including a great selection of DVDs, books and board games. The location was perfect - just off the beaten path but within easy walking distance to everything - harbor, restaurants, cute shops, Mt Battie trail head... There was a lot to do in the immediate area, and it's a great jumping off point to explore Maine's Mid-Coast region. I'm definitely looking forward to returning!

We just spent two weeks at Wicker Cottage and loved it. Spotless, cheery, filled with interesting books and DVDs. We really enjoyed reading on the porch and using the grille. The kitchen is exceptionally well stocked with condiments, utensils, etc. An easy walk to the harbor.

We just got home from a wonderful week's stay at Wicker Cottage. It was our first trip to Maine and we had a blast! The house was decorated beautifully, very cozy, inviting and relaxing. The house has extremely comfortable beds, plush towels and all you need for a week stay. You can walk within 5 minutes to downtown Camden, or drive up the street to hike Mt Battie , or another 5 minutes away you can drive to a wonderful hike called maiden's cliff. There are two gourmet grocery stores within walking distance. There is also a great place that Michelle leaves in her book to get live lobsters and they were amazing. The lobster pot, lobster crackers, lobster plates are all in the house for you to use!We would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a true tast of what New England has to offer. The house was immaculately cleaned upon arrival and even had travel size shampoos and soaps. Loved walking to get ice cream at Camden Cone and shopping at the Smiling Cow and other great stores. We spendtmost of our evenings outside in the beautiufl backyard . The garden was full of aromatic flowers and the smells of lavender. Loved watching the birds fly into and out of their nest. Our daughter Sarah who is nine loved being able to look out of the little window above her bed at night to see the stars. She especially loved the monopoly game that was supplied as well. Thank you to Michelle and Keith for allowing us to rent your beautiful home in Maine. Cannot wait to come back again some time.

We have stayed at the Wicker Cottage twice. With it's casual, comfortable appointments, bright floral gardens, and all the wares to cook and eat anything Maine, we have been as happy to stay in and read for multiple rainy summer days as to explore Camden and the coast on the other days. A relaxing and refreshing place to stay, we would try to include the Wicker Cottage in any future trip to the Maine coast.
