Cordes-sur-Ciel lodge description
The Lodge has recently been extended with a spacious second bedroom in addition to the beautiful four poster bedroom. The Lodge is on the ground floor and opens directly onto the inner courtyard through to the pool and gardens.
At first sight Cordes-sur-Ciel takes your breath away, La Gaudane is a superbly crafted golden stone building with its five floors clad in wisteria and trompette. It was designed and built in 1881 as an embroidery factory. Each apartment is outstanding with a unique personality of antique furniture and state of the art appliances.
It has all the advantages of the town with the quietness of being just off the busier beat. Set on the lower slopes of the 13th Century fortified town it is just 300 metres from bakers, butchers, bank, post office, supermarket, and patisserie. The Lodge has direct access to the Terrace and new fenced pool. The Terrace is part shaded with magnificent panoramic views over the valley of the Cerou. Cordes is handy for an enchanting array of beautiful little antique villages and bastides perched on high or even a trip into the wild Aveyron or down to the blue Mediterranean through the Herault.
La Gaudane sits on the lower slopes of Cordes-sur-Ciel with its medieval houses, narrow lanes, and endless mazes of little stone alleys, steps, tunnels, and gardens. It takes ten minutes to walk up to the medieval city from La Gaudane to browse in the many shops selling handicrafts and delicious specialities of the Tarn. There are many restaurants and cafes to while the time.
Cordes-sur-Ciel is a very special town. It is impossible to be untouched by its charm or to leave it without warm and special memories. And last, but not least, you will find the last phases of the 19th Century embroidery heritage whose beautiful works are to be found at La Gaudane and locally in specialist shops and ateliers.

- 'Cordes sur Ciel' is at 20 miles of Albi which is now entered in the UNESCO World Heritage (Even if it is not the aim of your travel, this means that there is a lot of beauties to see there). 'Cordes sur Ciel ' is one of its jewels as one of the most beautiful middle-ages villages, with many handcraft shops, and of artists and things to do and visit around. Without forget also a famous international classic music festival of a full week and inside of 'Cordes sur Ciel' a middle-ages feast with carnaval and also, not very far, several theater festivals....moreless

Good price but very basic accommodations
Good price but very basic accommodations
The Cordes area is charming, with restaurants, bakeries and shopping all within walking distance. The property manager is pleasant, and available on site. But the price is low for a reason: accommodations are quite basic, with the grounds poorly maintained. The apartment is a little ragged and needs updating/renovating. Bathing facilities consist of a free-standing tub with a hand-held shower device. Furniture is a bit shabby, and floor is stained. We cut our stay short as this was not a property that felt comfortable or relaxing for us.

Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: I had not saw this comment when it was putted mais only now while I work to improve the website. I am sorry for my host who said nothing to me during the stay. Anyway I agree on some of the different points. The first one is that the cost is lower than the other costs of my properties. There are of course reasons. For exemple there is a bathtub, and not shower (but this is clearly indicated on the website). A second one is that the furniture is a bit shabby, but it is as the one, we can find in an old country house which is the style of this small apartment (independant, as an house with its own entrance at the ground floor with direct access on the garden, the pool and the parking). I recognise that the floor was stained and I apologize for this. I have however to say that this year you were my last tenants and for this summer season, the tenth week occupation, from 10 to 17 of september. After we changed the carpeted floors (which was nor easy to do during the season, nor cautious) and painted the concrete floor what we have to do all the two seasons in this apartment which is effectively of rustic style. Anyway I know that because of its price, people prefer take this one instead of another but also and on this point I agree also with the comment, we received often in this apartment, families with young parents and young children... (but also older couples)... and some, came back at "La Gaudane"... in the same apartment...one for the third time. However, I have to say that I am aware that there is a problem of misunderstanding on this apartment and I precise now, each time that this apartment is booked, that the rustic aspect that we can apreciate on the website pictures, is not the fact of a modern building which tries to seem as a rustic cottage but a real rustic cottage even if it is equiped (as the others apartments) of all the home appliances which are nice to have during holidays and of a very confortable bed (and which are not noticed in the comment). This allows me from time to time, to propose with success one of my others apartments but sometimes also, this leads to the loss of the booking. In both the cases something better than to have an unhappy and dissatisfied customer. I hope this answer can help my past client to understand the situation and will be an help for new visitors of the website.

About the owner: My life was a journey, each step a thunderbolt, a crush and always, my passion went to life, to new experiences, to people also, chiefly. And my kids (the last ones are 10 and 11). Alter the water (I lived 10 years on a river boat, and 7 on a front beach, 'La Gaudane' in the middle level mountains is, with these height trees, the last one of this steps.
Why the Owner Chose Cordes-sur-Ciel:
'La Gaudane', a nice and an enjoying experience. It is very big and so spacious, than I can share it and share all the happiness that this old industrial plant of embroidery (1881), give now transformed in self catering houses, offering exotic and unexpected visions. Every body can appreciate here, time, arts, good wine, food, sport and sun. You understand that I have a lot of thought to share to do your stay, a very pleasant stay.
The Unique Benefits at this Lodge:
The style of the apartment which is like a small house, with it's own entrance and is very near from the pool (nice when there are small children). The garden in which one can be isolated, and also meet other people from around the world, around a bbq. At the end, at less than 30 miles, a number of activities, visits, feasts and festivals, so important, that no one is able to practice all, in one month.
