Property description

WONDERFUL HOUSE, BEAUTIFUL SETTING

* Quiet, safe neighborhood on a private road.

* Spacious front lawn for a game of croquet or badminton.

* Windows and decks in back overlook ever-changing saltwater vistas.

* Our own dock has a large float with swim ladder.

* Next to the dock is a new stairway to the shore for exploring sea life at low tide, or launching kayaks from the shore.

* Great boating, especially kayaking, canoeing and sailing.

* Fish from shore or dock.

* Investigate islands, enjoy bird and seal-watching.

SPOTLESS, COMFORTABLE HOME

* Large, airy master bedroom with queen size bed. *Smaller bedroom with double bed, antique, hand-painted country furniture.
*Third bedroom has two single beds, mirrored dresser and an old, lift-top student desk.

* Water views from cozy den, large eat-in kitchen, and extra-large living/dining room.

* Dishwasher.
*Maytag clothes washer and dryer. Recently renovated full bathroom.

* Well supplied with local recreational and restaurant information. Books and games and puzzles; TV, stereo. Outdoor furniture and gas grill.

*Half bath is an authentic period piece from the 1970s.

* All living spaces on one floor.

Other Pleasures

* You’ll find the town of Waldoboro a lovely interlude between lively Damarascotta and the busy Rockland/Camden area.

* Known as the home of the five-masted schooner, Waldoboro has a new library with a friendly staff, and a local history museum.

* Unexpected bonuses in Waldoboro include an excellent bakery (Borealis), *The Narrows, a tavern with wonderful musicians, *The Rusty Hinges, on Tuesday evenings and good food all the time, and an exceptional *grocery store with restaurant, (Morse's), that makes its own sauerkraut and aged cheddar, and imports many exceptional foods. And, of course, we have the **famous local landmark, Moody’s Diner.

* In and around Waldoboro you’ll find super restaurants, antique shops, weekly auctions, fine arts galleries, and crafts studios. Rockland’s *Farnsworth Museum is one of the country’s best American art museums, and up the street, *Sunfire Mexican Grill is very good. From top-of-the-line boutiques (e.g. *Archipelago at the Island Institute in Rockland), to bargain shopping (think Reny’s in Damariscotta), you can explore and shop as much (or as little) as you like. The Damariscotta Grill, a few doors away from Reny's, is one of our favorite restaurants.

****Besides boating, swimming, walking, hiking, fishing, reading and daydreaming, perhaps the greatest pleasure is the serenity of the place itself, enjoying views from the deck, or toasting a sundown on the float at the end of the dock.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2001

About the owner: Jack, an architect, grew up in North Carolina. I'm a writer, born in New York. We've lived in many places and traveled a good deal, but nothing compares to the beauty and pleasures we find here. Sitting on the deck, kayaking, going for walks, reading . . . this house is the most wonderful and relaxing place I know. Exploring nearby, and visiting museums and antique shops is fun too.

Why the Owner Chose Waldoboro:
The town of Waldoboro is unique. Though it has a significant summer population it has kept the character of a small, friendly town. We have summer theater, a new library with a very helpful staff, a great take-out pizza place (voted one Maine's best in Down East magazine) where you can also rent a movie, and good local restaurants. We have everything you might want to find out about Maine in over decade's worth of Down Easts in our library. We also have an eclectic, maybe even eccentric variety of books, from mysteries to philosophy.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is sunny, very clean and comfortable and has ever-changing beautiful views.
