"Sanglier Lodge"

is located in the tiny village of Le Tech in the French Pyrenees on the border with Spain. It is a big eighteenth century house which has been tastefully restored to retain its rustic charm and is situated at the foot of Mount Canigou, with the Tech river bubbling 50 meters from the door.

The Mediterranean coast is just 40 minutes away and the valley has its own microclimate, averaging 300 days of sunshine a year!

The area is almost free of crime and has a small but friendly population, like Provence was thirty years ago. The lodge is named after the wild boar which abound in the area, and which we often encounter on our rides and walks.

Being right on the border we can enjoy the cultures of both France and Spain. There are no irksome border posts in the mountain passes; you'll only realise you're in one country or the other when the language changes.

The lodge sleeps 12 comfortably, having six double bedrooms, five bathrooms, six loos, three terraced gardens, a child safe swimming pool, measuring five by nine metres, darts, badminton, a nearby tennis court, a 60 square metre sitting room and another recreation room.

The plumbing and electrics are of a high standard. The kitchen is large and there are laundry facilities.

The lodge is let as a self catering establishment when not used for walking and cycling tours. The price below displays rates for the months outside July and August, and, for July and August. If you take the lodge on this basis, you will have it entirely to yourselves, without interference from the owners.

Bed and Breakfast:
When we are running cycling, walking, golf or mulitsport weeks, you would be welcome to take rooms on a bed and breakfast basis if you have your own transport and don't wish to be involved in the activities programme.

The price is per double room per night, including breakfast. You will be given your own key and may come and go as you please.

A brief description of the house:
The lodge has six bedrooms/five bathrooms comprising of four double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and two additional children's rooms with single beds, one of which has its own bathroom.

A brief tour of the house:
Ground floor; lobby, cloakroom and basement room consisting of two single beds. Bathroom en suite, with shower, basin and loo.

Middle floor. "The bakery" [the house was a bakery in the 19th Century] converted into a large room with double our poster bed; ensuite bathroom with shower basin and loo.

Fine old Victorian dresser, bread oven and dough kneading annex still in place. There is a private tiled terrace outside with grape vines approximately 40m2, leading to another hidden terrace where the washing is hung out.

Study and kids’ room opposite.
• Passage leading to east wing via large landing with attic above. Lots of original artwork, big canvasses.

Family room. Off the landing. One bedroom with two single beds, with swing doors leading into another large double bedroom, with double bed. Bathroom ensuite with bath, basin and loo. Demi lune tables, fine antique dressing table.

"Green room’ Off the landing. Large room with double bed [French style teak] Antique oak dressing table and wardrobe. Large bathroom en suite with shower, toilet and basin.

Downstairs on east wing Monks annex. A delightful little annex containing an old monk’s bench and small library leads on to a large double bedroom and bathroom approximately 32m2 elegantly furnished with en suite bathroom containing villeroy and bosch bath, loo, basin and fittings.

Basement east wing comprises a laundry, with two washing machines and a deep freeze.

West wing; stairs from middle floor lead up to the kitchen, a large area equipped with two refrigerators, oven, stove, dishwasher and all crockery and cutlery you will need.

Living room. Off the kitchen on top floor. 60 m two room with vast old Catalan fireplace, piano, fine French furniture, an extensive library, a massive Spanish dining table with turned oak legs to seat 14, with teak dining room chairs. The floor is old oak. [Most of the other floors in the house are done in chestnut or tiles.]

Exterior:
The kitchen leads on to a small terrace, [ideal for a barbecue] which leads onto another terrace, with tiles, lawn, roses, flower beds and pot plants. Here there are five tiled tables with 18 wrought iron chairs which can be configured any way you like.

You will probably eat most meals out here. There is a fine view over the village and the Tech and Cumelade rivers, which are immediately below.

Top terrace. Catalan stone steps lead up to the swimming pool terrace, which has lawns, tiles, pool loungers, shade and sun, and a kidney shaped swimming pool measuring fie by nine metres.

I won’t say any more save that the house has exceeded the expectations of all who have stayed in it so I am confident you will not be disappointed.

I can be contacted by email.

The village is tiny but there is a grocery shop and cafe bar. Linen and towels are provided. The house is cleaned professionally before you arrive and after you leave, and fresh linen is provided after the first week.

There is lots for kids to do, swimming pool, darts, badminton, various games in the house, [the house itself is a labyrinth and rather fun for hide and seek] tennis court, playground, table tennis, tennis court and river in the village itself. With the gate locked, the pool is not accessible for non swimming small children.
