Romantic Getaway at Kiahuna Plantation - Poipu Beach Resort
5/5

Lovely unit: ground floor lanai is great; built-in washer/dryer is a life saver

Kiahuna Plantation is an awesome place to stay, and this unit is a gem: it's been very nicely remodeled (lovely stone shower floor, granite counters, etc.) and (for us) the real distinguishing feature is the washer/dryer *inside* the unit! We have two small kids, and we used the washer almost every day: it would have been a lot less pleasant having to traipse across the grounds to the public laundry every time. The unit is at the back of the grounds, but still only a minute or two from the beach: you literally turn a corner and there's the ocean beckoning you from between the stately palm trees. The beach is lovely, but (during our trip) the Southern Swell made from consistently large waves: perfect for surfers, but too big for our toddler. However, all we had to do was stroll along the beach (in and out of the surf: so warm!) and along the frontage of the Marriott (lovely pool!) and we found ourselves on the main Po'ipu beach, which has a gorgeous little protected cove at the far end: most days we just settled there and our young swimmer stayed in there (it's virtually flat, with a sandy bottom), while we took turns alternately playing with him, then popping across to snorkel amongst the very plentiful reef fish. The ocean was almost bath-warm: you could stay in all day without getting cold. And the whole picture (beach, ocean, sky) is postcard material. One last observation: this is a ground floor unit, with a lanai opening up directly onto a sweeping, lush lawn, which is also a big plus for families: our eldest spent a lot of time running around on the grass chasing his football while we (alternated) relaxing on the lanai and in the living room.

Loved Our Visit to Kaihuna Plantation 54488

Guest: pjs (Montrose, Colorado USA)
Date of Stay: 12/31/10 Review Submitted: 01/13/11

Our family of 4 enjoyed a 5 night stay at this beautiful condo. Kaihuna Plantation is a paradise! Bldg 18 is very near parking. Condo is a ground floor unit with a walk-out lanai with a nearby outdoor gas grill. The expansive lawn provided a wonderful place for my 9 and 12 yr old kids to throw ball and frisbee while the adults relaxed. We cooked great breakfasts and suppers each night in the well appointed kitchen and ate on the outdoor table. The king bed was very comfortable as was the queen pullout in the living room. The TV wasn't used much, but it is a quality unit with cable. The gorgeous beach was a short walk down a very pretty path, and the fireworks 12/31 were an unexpected treat. We swam and boogieboarded each day and most nights on the safest beach on the island at the time, Poipu. Snorkeling wasn't bad either. My kids learned how to surf! The onsite orchid and cactus gardens were spectacular. A visit to Waimea Canyon, Spouting Horn, Salt Pond, Koloa, Shipwrecks, Mahaulepu filled out our south shore visit. Enjoyed a plane tour (Wings over Kauai) and snorkel outing. The Expedia Local Expert at Kaihuna was VERY helpful. (The last 4 days of our trip was on the north shore, see VRBO review # 124859). THANK YOU! This rental was very easy and exceeded our expectations!
