Magnificent Property - Best Private Beach

We just returned from Sand Dollar. The property was perfect for our large group. The setting was wonderful and relaxing with a lot to do. The interior of the house was spacious and clean with a well-stocked kitchen and all the modern appliances. Bob, the manager, was very friendly. He met us at the airport and made multiple trips to meet our friends who arrived at different times. It saved us a lot on taxi fare. He also pre-stock our groceries. We had everything we needed to start our vacation. He was always pleasant and willing to help while we were there. We had Monica cook for several nights. She was delightful and accommodating as most of us have very different dietary requirements. The fishing right off the private beach was incredible! We caught tarpon, bonefish, and grouper. Best beach we ever stayed on. Plan at least one day to see the other islands. Dine out a couple nights, try Old Stone Farm House and Mafolie. Book a massage at the spa. Try the Mahogany Run Golf Course, only 5 minutes away. Check the cruise ship schedule and avoid downtown when they are busy. Get the car ferry schedule from Red Hook to St. John and explore the island. Don't use Verizon Wireless, they will hit you with roaming charges for phone and data. AT&T is much better in the islands. Ask Suzanne if she has any suggestions for activities. Overall we had a great time. We will definitely return next year.

Sand Dollar is as wonderful as it looks!

I have stayed at the Sand Dollar Estate twice. Both times I have had excellent service and a relaxing, rejuvenating stay! Whenever one visits the island (as I have done multiple times over the last five years) one must remember that renting a house is different than staying at a hotel. Friendly service often depends upon how one treats the gracious people of St. Thomas. The staff at the Sand Dollar has always been wonderful, polite and attentive. The facilities have been consistently updated and are always in excellent repair. I will continue to enjoy my time in St. Thomas while staying at the Sand Dollar and would advise anyone considering it to do the same! P.S. Make sure to hop into town... the jewelry shopping is fabulous...as well as the restaurants down by the docks.. if you can, rent a boat and go fishing! It is worth it.

Most Memorable Vacation

We stayed at Sand Dollar in January 2013. Our family has travelled extensively and have stayed at beach front properties all over the Caribbean, but nothing compares to Sand Dollar. The best part of the property is the private beach. It is always calm with plenty of wildlife and fish. The sand is powdery and the beach provides absolute privacy. The villa itself is beautifully laid out. There are always places to unwind and socialize. We ate mostly at the villa, but there are great restaurants and fun take out places all over the island. Bob, the manager, is most helpful. He always made us feel welcome and right at home. The highlight of our trip was taking a private boat charter to the nearby islands. Our son got PADI (Scuba) certified at one of the most beautiful places on earth. I highly recommend this property for any family vacation.

We returned to the Sand Dollar recently after having our wedding there 2 years ago. Both stays were absolutely perfect. The house is amazing...well equiped, spacious, comfortable, and has tremendous outside living space. The private beach is incredible, even nicer than the main beach at Magen's bay! Suzanne and Steve were a pleasure to work with. We were very happy to spend another week with Bob, the property manager, who caters to every need. The 2 times we have visited have been dream vacations and we can't wait to return!

Beautiful and well maintained

We looked at several locations in the Virgin Islands as possibilities to have our wedding at. This place won hands down. The owners allowed us to tour the property with their property manager, bob, before committing. I knew right away this place was perfect. It has 3 separate outdoor decks, a private beach on megens bay only accessible from the property, beautiful furnishings inside and out, and is air conditioned in every room. Knowing we were having our wedding there, the owners sent us a list of recommended vendors. Because of their recommendations, we didn't need to hire a wedding planner. Everybody on that vendor list went above and beyond. They all were willing and happy to help with anything. The officiant, stu Scott, even put us in touch with a monko jumbie stilt dancer that we were able to hire last minute. Everything was perfect thanks to the owners help and suggestions. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here. There is plenty to do at the property, kayaks, snorkeling, a pool, billiards, a spa, gym, etc. This house is known to all the taxi drivers we met, as the "st. thomas White House" because of president Clinton's stays on the property. I should add that many of the vendors commented that the sand dollar is the most beautiful private villa rental in st. Thomas.

The Perfect Family Wedding

Sand Dollar Estate will forever remain in my memory, not only because it provided the perfect location for my dream wedding but also the perfect family vacation! We stayed one week and everything was wonderful, from beginning to end. Booking was simple, thanks to the owners, and they were a great resource for planning my wedding and vacation at the estate. The estate is in great condition and any needs were readily taken care of by Bob. All online descriptions and pictures just as they were online. Our extended family of 13 stayed in the house with more than enough room for everyone, including the kids. We bought some food and supplies at Cost-U-Less before we arrived, which Bob picked up and had at the estate upon arrival. We did hire a cook for the week and had catering for the larger wedding events due to the large number of guests, and Shelly Berry was fantastic The wedding and reception included 32 people and space was never an issue. The house is welcoming and comfortable, with plenty of space to spend time together or find a quiet place to read, whatever you like. Critiques (and I'm having to think hard to come up with any): The pool is a little small by Texas standards but it was never an issue as we usually split time and people between the beach and the pool. Keep citronella all around....we bought lots of candles so out on the deck after dark was nice but watch out for sand flies! The deck gets hot during the day and to go between the 2 levels the stairs are outside. Driving is an issue on the island. We did rent a van, which I'd do again as it was good or daytime activities. But, if we were all going anywhere we didn't fit in 1 car so we got a taxi. Also if we were going after dark or going to be drinking we used the taxi. Taxi was so easy and time efficient as we used the same driver all week. During the week we had days filled with great snorkeling in front of the estate. The water was also calm enough for the kids to swim without worry. There were lots of fish, sea turtles, stingaree, and on our wedding day even dolphins!!! We did kayaking, rented jet skis for one day, scheduled massages that were wonderful in the spa at the estate, and chartered a private cocktail cruise on Daydreamer. Our group loved Coral World too. Restaurant recommendations: Oceana, Amelia Cafe, and Havanna Blue. I would highly recommend Sand Dollar to anyone. We hope to return in the future!

Amazing Vacation and Wedding

Our stay at the Sand Dollar Estate could not have been better! We traveled down to get married and brought both sets of parents and siblings who had never met. The house is huge and there was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. It is beautifully decorated and all the bedrooms were gorgeous. Having our private private beach was the best part. It was so nice to have the option of the pool and beach, but most days were spent down at the beach. There are kayaks that we used all the time. We went into town a couple times but once you're in the house, you really don't want to leave. We would wake up and take our coffee outside and look into the water off the balcony at all the sea life there in the morning: Sea turtles, rays, schools of tarpon. The wedding was perfect as well. All the local vendors have worked in the Sand dollar before, so it couldn't go more smoothly. It takes all the stress off. I highly recommend staying here; all 15 of us had the most wonderful time.

Vacation in Paradise

We had an amazing week at the Sand Dollar Estate. 14 of us rented the house and we had plenty of space for us all. We felt like we were in paradise all week long. The pictures of the house are beautiful and when we arrived, we realized that the pictures didn't even do the house and the view justice. This house is simply a paradise. Great amenities and features. Tons of deck space. A little of everything for groups of all sizes to utilize. Bob (the care taker of the house) is so friendly and was willing to help in any way to make our stay even better. Suzanne is so sweet and cares about the guests that will be staying at her place. She was a pleasure to work with. And Monica (the private chef) made meals that were delicious. She was willing to create menus that suited our tastes. Completely spoiled and so fortunate for our vacation. Top things we loved about the villa: 1: Unbelievable view 2: The ability to be at the private pool or beach 3: Kayaks to explore in or take to Magen's Bay beach. 4: Sounds systems that played out on the decks 5: Very comfortable beds and clean house 6: Amazing Staff. 7..... the list could go on forever. If you have the chance to rent, then I would definitely do it. This is the 2nd time our group has rented and we are already talking about doing it again! On the island, if someone asks where you stay, they know the house and they always say what a great place it is. So thank you, thank you, thank you for a luxurious and relaxing vacation. Julie

Our family reunion couldn't have been at a better spot in the world! We ALL loved every minute of our time at the Sand Dollar. The beach was amazing! Monica did her fabulous cooking for breakfast and dinner and Bob took care of all our needs. They felt like extended family. Nobody wanted to leave....we hope to be back in the future.

multi generation family reunion

The Sandollar Estate is an amazing place to host a family reunion. This was our 2nd visit and everything you need is in one place. We had three generations, ranging from age 9 months to 65 yrs. The nicest thing was not having to pack up the babies to go to the beach, it was right there and all ours, very private. When it was nap time everyone didn't have to leave. In the evenings kids could go to bed and the adults could all hang out together on the wonderful veranda and take in the beautiful sunsets and island breeze without worry about the children. They property has always been well maintained and Bob was always ready to help us with any problem that came up. We made use of the kayaks daily and did some awesome night fishing right off the beach. The beach and water is amazing and you can snorkel and see a variety of colorful fish right there, as well has watch stingrays swim by. There is plenty of room to spread out for some quiet or alone time. The addition of the spa, exercise room and upper deck was a plus that we took advantage. If you want to get into town to take in a little of the island life, we love the open market, and breakfast at Gladys' Cafe. An afternoon trip to Utter Delight for an ice cream delight is just down the hill, and the ribs at Sibs can't be beat. If you have children with you, Coral World is fun.

Excellent Vacation Home

Sand Dollar Estate is by far one of the best rentals on St. Thomas. Home is very comfortable and location is directly on Megans Bay! Has all the extra's that you would expect in a home of this caliber! Beds were especially comfortable. Large groups have plenty of room to have their own space. We only had nine in our group and actually had to look for them sometimes. The owner, Suzanne, was wonderful to work with and always responded promptly. Bob, the caretaker, was instrumental in us having a wonderful time. He was there if you wanted him (which we loved having him around) and never seen if you wanted alittle privacy. Location was outstanding. Directly on the bay, your own private beach, yet not too far to town if you wanted run an errand. We elected to stay at the house most the time. The waters at Megans Bay are amazing. We swam with sting rays and turtles. The night snorkling was even better. Need a long walk on the beach -- you are just a kayak ride away from it.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

One of the most fabulous and amazing places I have ever stayed. It was the best vacation I have ever had. There was a group of 16 of us and we all had plenty of room. The most amazing time!!! The Best BEACH ever!!! I want to live their FOR EVER!!!!! Bob was awesome!!! Inside and outside was fantastic i couldn't ask for a better time with my friends and my best fiancee!! Some day we will be back. I recomend this villa to anyone who loves the beach. There were 16 of us who stayed at the villa and the cottage and it was amazing! We only left the property twice to go into town, but other than that, we didn't want to leave, because we were all having such a great time. The villa and the cottage were both very clean and you cannot beat the location! I loved having the private beach and then being able to go upstairs to hang out in the pool for a while. The entire property is kept up very well and we got to meet Bob, the caretaker, who was very nice and we felt as though he was very much a part of our group. I would highly recommend this property to anyone! I can't wait to go back!

Sand Dollar is the place whether you are planning a family reunion, wedding or simply fun vacation. We had the time of our lives. Our wedding was magical and photos are incredibly beautiful. We had a full house and it did not even feel crowded. The rooms are gorgeous and patios are huge with amazing looking pool. The private beach was our guests favorite!!! Sand Dollar is worth every dollar! Cannot wait to go back...!! We had an amazing experience with the owner - Suzanne is a sweetheart. The property manager Bob is truly an excellent help and a great person. (We interacted with him on a daily basis and I felt like he was part of our group).

Our entire family (22) had a fantastic time. There was not one negative thing. Bob was fantastic. Shelly was delightful and prepared delicious food. Our dealings with the owner, Suzanne, were excellent. She is a very caring person. The Villa suited our family to perfection. We are a well-traveled family and put this at the top of the list for a fun-filled and satisfying vacation. It was a 5-star week from start to finish. Our only disappointment was when we attempted to book the same week for 2013, it was not available. I can understand why. We loved every minute of our week at Sand Dollar. I strongly recommend Sand Dollar.

My family and I have stayed at Sand Dollar for past 7 years, and will continue to come year after year. The home and location are unbeatable! The owners and staff are very accommodating and easy to work with. Where else can you get your own sugar sand Magen's Bay beach, and a private pool? It is perfect for those that want these amenities without the crowds of a hotel. We love the fact that the kids can play and the adults can relax without worrying about other people.

The Destination Wedding of Our Dreams!!

Sand Dollar Estate was the perfect location for our destination wedding, hosting 15 family members in paradise! We had the wedding on the private beach (breathe-taking) and the reception on the pool deck. Words cannot express how wonderful our stay was at Sand Dollar. Lots to keep you busy with snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, and fishing right off the private beach. Bob (the house manager) is unbelievably helpful, our stay wouldn't have been the same without him. The house is about 25 minutes from the major "destinations" of St. Thomas (very remote), so renting a car is advised. Thank you to the owners and to Bob for helping us make our dream wedding a reality. So many wonderful memories we will take with us!

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

A Great Choice for a Large Family

We stayed at Sand Dollar Estate in December 2011 with our extended family. The entire property is stunning with every detail carefully considered. There was ample space for 20 of us to get cozy or have some privacy to read a book and relax. The beach was unbelievable and right below the main house and cottage. We rented a power boat and kept it on the mooring in front of the house for 7 days. It was definitely one of the best beaches we have ever visited, very calm with tons of wild life and fish. You can fish and snorkel right off the beach. Bob, the manager, was the best. He was attentive but discreet. He did it all, from pre-stocking groceries, running errands for us, to showing us all the fun local places on the island. The rest of the house staff was also very helpful and polite. The house is meticulously clean. There are plenty of things to do in St. Thomas. Great restaurants and fun activities for everyone. We chartered a boat to visit the other islands. it was definitely the highlight of the trip. We have stayed at 5 star resorts and other luxury beach front properties in the past, but Sand Dollar was by far the best. We will try to return next year.

Amazing Family Vacation

After months of research and several conversations with previous guests, we decided to rent Sand Dollar last summer. The process of finding a large property who can satisfy the needs from babies to seniors is tedious, but the result was well worth. Amongst all the destinations in the Caribbean, St. Thomas was a great choice for our family who resides all over the country and Europe. The layout of the property is gorgeous, perfect for large group. Everything is well planned, the staff was friendly and helpful. The private beach is the best we have ever set foot on. It is always calm and the sand is so fine. All sorts of wild life were right in front of the door step - tarpon, dolphin, sea turtle...... The owner was very helpful. She gave us a lot of advice from planning the trip to which activities to choose during our stay. We saved a great deal of money and time, and were able to indulge ourselves with a full time cook, jetski for the teenagers, a private charter for the entire family....... The weather was lovely, much cooler than the summer in the mainland U.S. I highly recommended Sand Dollar to anyone who is seeking a property with the luxury of a hotel and the comfort of a private home.

Family get-together in Paradise

What an incredible time we had at Sand Dollar. The accommodations were wonderful. There was plenty of space to spread out and enjoy time together or alone. The private beach area was perfect, the water so clear and everyone had a great time snorkeling, kayaking, floating, jet-sking (so much fun), and just relaxing. The owner was very helpful in answering questions beforehand regarding our stay. Everyone, from age 78 - one, had a wonderful time. Iggies was a lot of fun and the milk shakes from the little Dairy down the street were some of the best we've ever had. Would love to return again soon. We definitely recommend Sand Dollar for a private family get-together.

Family Vacation & Wedding in Paradise...

To sum up our trip to the Sand Dollar Estate in one word I would have to call the trip…Magical. We had a few criteria when looking for the best location to have our wedding – it needed to be in a tropical location, we wanted to hold the ceremony on the beach and we wanted to keep the intimacy and privacy that you would find when holding it in your own home…we found this all and more at the Sand Dollar Estate. First of all, the pictures don’t do the property justice, it is even more spectacular in person…being there just takes your breath away. My now husband and I had both our immediate families stay at the property – 14 of us in total – and the home is so large everyone was able to spread out comfortably and find their own place of peace and tranquility if that’s what they were going for, or if we wanted to get together in a larger group, this home is set up for fun! If we weren’t snorkeling in the water (which is so warm and crystal clear! Don’t forget to bring your snorkel) or swimming in the pool, our families were all together on the deck playing bean bag toss, telling stories and taking in the views…we left saying this was the most memorable family vacation we have ever had – and that’s completely aside from the fact that we also got married! Having the Sand Dollar Estate and Magen’s Bay as the back drop for our wedding was a dream come true – I had set up everything in St. Thomas (the caterers, hair dresser, photographer, florists, steel pan drummer, dj) sight unseen, no taste testing or trial runs of anything which not knowing could have been stressful for any bride but everything was absolutely fantastic – all the vendors in the area are top notch and my guests (we more than comfortably fit 45 people) left raving about the food and our wedding cake (this cake was the best cake I have ever had!). So if you are thinking about holding your wedding at the Sand Dollar and are uneasy about not being able to test things out before hand, please no worries – you will be in great hands with the vendors at the Sand Dollar Estate! Now both our families, who became so close over the week, are already planning another trip back very soon! Next time I go though, I don’t think I’ll rent a car because we barely left the estate there was so much to do…when you are already in the most beautiful location in St. Thomas, why would you go anywhere else! P.S. A HUGE thank you to Bob (the Sand Dollar manager). Bob is the man!!

Perfect Escape from a Chicago Winter!

We picked this house for our family reunion last month (January 2011) and we couldn't have made a better choice!! Not only was there plenty of room for all of us to relax, but there was also so much to do without even having to leave the property. The views were incredible, and the house was kept in amazing condition. Spending time at the Sand Dollar was the perfect way to get away from a chilly Chicago winter and the perfect place for my family to enjoy a vacation together.

Perfect Family Reunion

What a joy it must be to know how Sand Dollar affects the lives of those who are fortunate enough to visit. From the moment we arrived, we knew it was the house we wanted to share with our family. The reunion was so special on many levels. All of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were able to join us. This is a piece of heaven on earth. The beach was spectacular as were the house, gardens and wildlife. There were always something to entertain everyone. There are no words to describe our laughter, love and appreciation. The owner and staff were very helpful, especially Bob, the Property Manager. He helped us cook the fish we caught from the beach every night. We cannot ask for a better company. We will be back next year!

Great Way to Celebrate Any Birthday

We recently rented Sand Dollar to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday with five of his closes friends and their spouses, some of them also turned 50 last year. The house is magnificent and the beach is to die for. The propery is so large that we had a lot of privacy for each of us. I was concerned that it might be too close quarters for 12 of us to spend a week together. It turned out to be the best vacation we ever had. Prior to our trip, the staff helped us to pre-stock grocery and arranged some activites. We had a cook prepared meals almost everyday, and ate out a couple nights. All the staff at the villa were wonderful. They were extremely helpful and polite. From the minute we landed at St. Thomas, they were there for us. We chartered 2 boats for fishing one day. My husband caught a white marlin on his birthday. He could not ask for a better present! We also went to St. John and spent a day snorkeling at Trunk Bay and dining at Caneel Bay. The food was OK but the trip was thoroughly enjoyable. There are so many places to go but so little time! We will definitely take our family back next year.

My best girlfriend got married at Sand Dollar last May. The villa was huge and 22 people stayed there in much nicer setting than any hotel. I was one of the lucky guests staying at the villa for the wedding and reception and it turned out to be the most fabulous setting ever. My girlfriend and her new husband, stayed in the villa's honeymoon cottage which was a separate adorable building with its own private sandy beach. I've seen so many weddings at resorts, where it just seemed so public and unromantic because of other vacationers inthe bathing suits or shorts etc. strolling by during the ceremany and wedding party photos. My friend's wedding took place on the villa's private beach and there were no "uninvited" guests or spectators. The staff were great. They helped arranged everything, from meeting us at the airport, to arrange massage and helped at the reception. I hope I will marry at Sand Dollar! Will recommend to all my friends who are looking for destination wedding.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I have been to the Sand Dollar twice for vacation...it is absolutely the most relaxing destination on the planet! The private beaches make all the difference...you are truly in your own world....The views are spectacular and access to the beaches is practical for vacationers with or without children...the snorkling right off your own beach was as good as anywhere else on the island... The property is always in perfect condition, yet the staff is discreet so that you really feel like you are in your own home in paradise. There are some great local favorites within walking distance including an ice cream stand that makes shakes with a kick of local rum... The layout of the property is definitley the most convenitent I have come across...it was easy to "get private" and yet no one , even in a large crowd could ever feel left out of the scene... I would recommend the Sand Dollar for both small intimate vacations and large group gatherings ...but on a selfish note, anyone who visits will understand why I hope it stays somewhat of a secret!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
