3 nights in the yurt

They yurt is one of several rentals available at Middlefork Ranch. We found it to be very appealing. It was impeccably clean, well-furnished, and well-equipped. Because it is essentially a very large tent, it is uninsulated, but it has a heater and an air conditioner, both of which we used during our stay in late September. It is as close as it can reasonably be to the river. Access to the river is across the rocky river bed, and there are nice swimming holes within a short walk. The water was not as cold as I expected it to be. The bedroom, where we slept, is furnished with an bed like a "sleep number" bed. The control was mildly temperamental, but good enough. Friends who joined us slept on the fold out sofa and said it was comfortable. The kitchen is modern and functional with a full-sized refrigerator and a four-burner electric stovetop. There is no full-sized oven, but there is a combination microwave/convection oven that worked well for our purposes. The composting toilet required a simple adjustment to our familiar procedures, but worked well and was easy to use. The gazebo adjacent to the yurt afforded a very nice overlook to the river. We also enjoyed the use of the propane grill and the hot tub on the deck, also overlooking the river. All windows were screened and were covered by transparent plastic attached by velcro to the outside of the yurt. It got very warm and stuffy inside during the day, but by manipulating the ceiling fan and the dome skylight, we were able to make ourselves comfortable when we were indoors. We appreciated the gift of fresh eggs from the owners' hens. My only complaint had nothing to do with the the quality or cleanliness of the facility or the service provided by the owners. The only problem I had with it is that for all the distance you travel off the highway to get to the property, you wind up directly across the river from a four-lane stretch of Highway 199. Although completely screened from view by trees, the traffic noise was nearly constant, and until I spent a day getting used to it, I found it intrusive. It helps considerably to stay by the river, where the sound of the water drowns out the traffic. We enjoyed our stay, and recommend the property for its comfort, easy access to the river, and reasonable price.

HomeAway Truckies enjoying CA nature's finest

The HomeAway Truckster absolutely loved this nature retreat. The bridge you traverse to get to the property is both adventurous and memorable because of the beautiful scenery…but that was only the beginning. Once we arrived in the yurt, I was impressed by the modern-day amenities the lodging provided. With Internet access, television, and a washer/dryer, the Truckies were set to enjoy our beautiful surroundings without falling behind on our work or routine obligations. We thoroughly enjoyed your hospitality and our only complaint is that our stay just wasn’t long enough. I would recommend this rental to anyone looking for a peaceful and unforgettable vacation.

I've stayed in the yurt and the Raven's nest with my family several times now, and have found my time there incredibly relaxing and restorative. The property is beautiful, located right on the Smith River, with lots of room to wander. I have a young child and a dog-they both love it. Middlefork Ranch a perfect place for a quiet family vacation.
