Location: Roussillon, Luberon Area, Provence, France, Europe (40km from Avignon - 45mins, 95km from Marseille - 60 min)

Accommodations:  Old Provencal Farm House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-5)

Come and stay at Hameau de Trabail, Roussillon-en-Provence, in the South of France. Just 40 kilometres from Avignon, between Gordes and Apt, in the heart of the Luberon Valley. Hameau de Trabail is a 250 year old Provencal farmhouse in its own quiet hamlet. The house is built on the site of a Roman villa - Villa Trabaila.

The area of the Luberon Valley is in turn in the heart of Provence and is of outstanding beauty. You can share these stunning views from the house, the garden, and especially from the terrace. In every direction, there are sights, experiences, and history to interest the serious artist, the gastronome, and the walker or bicyclist. Its also very pleasant just to lie in the sun! There is an 18 hole golf course 15 minutes away.

We provide three bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with twin beds and a single bed room which has a refridgerator and facilities for making hot drinks. There is a separate shower room with water closet and basin. The house has electric heaters (for early spring or late autumn) and fans for hot weather.

Breakfast, in spring and summer is usually on the terrace, which is shaded by vines and has views south to Roussillon. Steps lead down to a lawn and to the solar heated swimming pool (eleven meters by five and a half meters).

The owners will be happy to help with suggestions for exploring this part of France.

In the shade of the terrace or from the swimming pool, one can contemplate the peaceful views of the ochre cliffs of Roussillon in the distance and the Luberon mountain range further on. Our garden, of two and half acres, has an inner garden area with the pool, a fruit orchard and wild flower meadow flanked by vineyards and open fields beyond.

Within easy reach, one can visit the picturesque villages including Gordes, Sault for the lavender, Oppède le Vieux, Lacoste with the Maquis de Sade’s castle, the Abbaye de Sénanque, and the ancient village of the Bories. L’Isle sur la Sorgue has a large antique market every Sunday where bargains may be sought. The plateau and hidden valley of the Vaucluse (closed valley) hold the intriguing source of the river Sorgue. The mountains of the Luberon abound with walks and the vivid ochre colours of the Colorado at Rustrel and Roussillon should not be missed.

For those addicted to the Provencal life and its flavours, the Saturday morning market of Apt is full of life and variety. Apt is also famous for the production of crystallised fruit.

Tasting the local wines "at the source of the production" is a fun experience, the most popular to try has to be the famous local wine, "rosé de Provence." For those who wish for cultural events, the region is well known for music festivals of which Avignon is the main centre and is just 45 minutes away. La Roque d’Anthéron and Aix en Provence are within an hour’s drive and half an hour further south can be found the villages of Banyuls and Cassis along the coast of the Mediterranean.

Travelling by car the exit off the motorway is at Sud Avignon (30 minutes). By train, the TGV stops at Avignon and during the summer there are trains direct from Waterloo and London. By air, there are frequent flights from Paris to Avignon or the International Airport to Marseilles (60 minutes).

Once you have visited Provence in the South of France, you will be smitten. Come and stay any time but the best time is in the spring and summer.
