A superb 19c manor house with private pool set in a private garden & 4 gites with shared pool, most have wonderful views of La Roque St Christophe. The house accommodates 12 people in 6 bedrooms with 6 en-suite bathrooms. The 4 gites, totally separate from the main house, have all been renovated and furnished to the same level of comfort as the house and share a second swimming pool. The largest, The Tobacco Barn, sleeps 5/6 guests in 3 en-suite bedrooms. The 3 other spacious gites - the Hay Barn, Walnut Store and La Roque Terrace - are each designed for 2 people. Each unit is fully self-contained, with kitchen, lounge, bedroom and en-suite bathroom, and has a private terrace with outdoor dining and BBQ. Alternatively the house and 4 gites would be suitable for large groups of up to 24 people - perfect for parties and weddings. The property is five minutes walk from local restaurant and boulangerie and perfectly situated for all places of interest the Dordogne has to offer.
Le Moustier: Situated between Montignac, famous for the Lacaux cave paintings, and Les Eyzies with its many prehistoric sites, the small village of Le Moustier derives its name from the prehistoric Mousterian era due to an important skull find there. It has a restaurant, bar and a boulangerie and the house is only 5 minutes walk from the village. Les Granges placed on the side of the river Vezere opposite La Roque St Christophe, a limestone cliff face with caves carved into the rock which were inhabited for over 55,000 years from the prehistoric era to the middle ages when over 5,000 people lived on the site. These kilometre long caves are illuminated at night and make a spectacular view from the property.
The surrounding area: Many local towns offer traditional street markets. Montignac in particular hosts an excellent market twice a week, and nearby Rouffignac has a splendid Sunday morning market, where local farmers exhibit freshly picked vegetables, plump ducklings, fresh foie gras and enormous selections of local cheeses. The Perigord is a gourmets paradise and there are many excellent local restaurants offering the best of the areas cuisine.
The property is excellently placed for walking and cycling with all tracks well marked. There are plenty to choose from and range in severity from easy to strenuous!
Other local activities include canoeing on the Vezere or the Dordogne rivers, horse riding and tennis, golf, hot air ballooning and river cruises all within 30 - 40 minutes drive.
The Dordogne Region: The land of a thousand chateaux, the Dordogne or Perigord as it was known, is split into four regions named for their natural features. Noir(black) region of dense forests, Vert(green) spruce trees, Pourpre(purple) vines and Blanc(white) natural limestone. Due to its natural beauty and abundance of medieval towns, chateaux and villages, the Perigord Noir is the jewel in the crown of the Dordogne. The Vezere Valley, with its predominance of prehistoric sites, makes this region one of the most visited. The medieval towns of Sarlat, Les Eyzies and the vibrant city of Perigueux and many traditional villages, each with a character of their own, including Domme, Rocamador, Beynac, Le Roque Gageac, Montignac with the famous Lascaux caves, St Leon sur Vezere, makes the region a real sight seeing experience.

The main house at Le Manoir des Granges is a typical Perigourdian manor house, built in 1822 in local golden sandstone, on three floors with a natural slate roof. It has been restored to a high standard and retains many of its original features. The house is surrounded by mature, spacious gardens, with an orchard of apple, peach, fig, cherry and walnut trees. It has a 12 x 5 metre swimming pool set in a private garden, fenced for safety. The area surrounding the pool is sunny with sun loungers umbrellas and a large walnut tree for shade. Inside, there is a well equipped farmhouse kitchen with all the modern necessities for those who love cooking, a 5 burner gas range, dishwasher, 2 fridges and a dining area which comfortably seats 12. Off the hall is a cloakroom with WC. The lounge is comfortably furnished with a stone fireplace for log fires on cooler evenings, satellite English and French (freeview) TV, DVD and Hi Fi and a well stocked library area.

Fabulous house, a delicious meal, lots to do, thanks Sarah, Geoff and William, Oxon. Great house, loads to do in the area, had a great week. Matt, Angela and Thomas, Surrey. Our families had the most marvellous reunion here and really enjoyed the furnishings, decor and ample supplies in the kitchen. We also very much enjoyed our visits with Alan. We spent the first two weeks of September in the beautiful manor house celebrating my Grandfathers 90th birthday .It was like being home from home. The manor house provides everything that you may require and if it hasn't Paul or Philippa will help you find it or provide it for you. The weather was glorious and we found ourselves spending many happy hours playing with the children around the pool or exploring the naturally beautiful surrounding area. the children managed to find a very friendly pregnant donkey in Le Moustier , she was quite partial to a carrot or two. We are still awaiting word of the new arrival. Paul and Phillipa couldn't have been more kind or helpful,particularly to Grandad and the children. Paul and Philippa are helpful and attentive hosts. The accommodation is attractive, well equipped and is the perfect place to completely wind down. The location is peaceful and rural. Le Moustier is tiny and attractive, boasting at least one good restaurant and there are many others within striking distance. There is a good supermarket in Montignac (10-15 minutes away). The greatest advantages of the property are the pool, the well-equipped kitchen and 6 comfortable ensuite bedrooms. The only disadvantages (and these are minor and in no way detracted from our enjoyment of the holiday) are infrequent traffic noise and occasional lack of hot water. We travelled with a group of friends on motorbikes/trikes, and rented the main house and two of the gites. Philippa and Paul were the most helpful and welcoming of hosts. Their properties are home from homes, with everything you could wish for, I would recommend it to anyone looking for comfortable luxury. The area is stunning and there is lots to see. Stayed in 3 of the gites with our extended family including the big house - which was just fantastic! Great location for getting out and about - both walking and in the car. Lots to see and do in this fascinating area of France. Paul and Philippa are great hosts - they go out of their way to make you feel welcome in their beautiful home. We stayed in Le Manoir des Granges on one of our visits to France. Rooms are spacious and all with en suite. Two swimming pools are a big bonus. And the views are outstanding. We loved the place so much that we decided to have our wedding there. We booked the whole place for one week. Paul and Philippa were very helpful with organising everything for the wedding. On our special day they were around all the time to make sure everything went smoothly. The stay was fantastic and our wedding guests are still talking about Le Manoir des Granges. Our group of nine adults spent the week of Sept. 17th-24th in the Main House. The house was large enough to comfortably accommodate the group. All of the group especially appreciated the large bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms. The dining table was our favorite place for the whole group to gather to share our daily adventures. The location was perfect to explore the surrounding area. Also excellent restaurants, a large grocery store and bakery were within in minutes of the house. Paul and Philippa, the most cordial of hosts were always available to suggest places to see. Their recommendation for a local tour guide to visit prehistoric caves and a chef to prepare a gourmet meal at the house delighted the group. We were told about Le Manoir des Granges and saw it online, as soon as we saw the location and the pictures of the house we knew we had to visit. A group of us planned our trip for a week in May, flying to Brive airport and picking up hire cars from there. The Manoir was just an hour drive from the airport and through some very beautiful countryside but nothing was to compare to what we found when we pulled up to Le Manoir des Granges...it was stunning. We stayed in the house but we also got to have a glimpse into the gites, everywhere you turned it was clean, tidy, well equipped and bursting with rustic French charm. The location was perfect, central for the Vezere valley. During our visit we went to Sarlat market, La Roque St Christophe (which has a tremendous view of Le Manoir des Granges and vice versa!), we canoed down the Vezere, visited Montignac, drank lots of lovely local wine and ate lots and lots of AMAZING food!!!! Paul and Philippa couldn't have done more for us during our stay, so helpful with local information and always pointed us in the right direction...a big thank you to you both! Our family of nine from Australia, spanning three generations, stayed in this fabulous house in April 2011. It was perfect for our needs. The six bedrooms meant everyone who needed their own bedroom could have one, and each room had their own bathroom (luxury). The huge dining table and well equipped kitchen meant that we could all comfortably eat together and we prepared most of our meals at home. There is so much space in and around the house that we hardly saw our younger children (6 and 8 years). They even braved the pool in April, though I confess the weather was unseasonably warm. And Philippa and Paul were such excellent hosts, very helfpul and approachable. This made navigating the area so much easier. We loved the Dordogne. Each day we found it more enchanting. There were many fun and different things to do and places to explore, as well as spectacular scenery and beautiful walks. Thank you to Philippa and Paul for having us to stay in their house.
