Located on a quiet street in Montmartre, the apartment is literally surrounded by the artistic heritage of Paris. It is bounded on one side by the former studio of Toulouse Lautrec, on another side by the Cite des Fusains, which housed artists such as Forain, Poulbot, Renoir, Willette, and on the third side by the Cimetiere de Montmartre, the final resting place of many leading French poets, writers, artists, and historic figures, including Dalida, Alexandre Dumas, Stendhal, Edgar Degas and Hector Berlioz.
Whatever direction you head when you come out of the door of the apartment will take you someplace interesting. Turn to the right and all of Montmarte, including the wonderful shops and restaurants of rue Lepic, Sacre Coeur and the Moulin Rouge are within a short walk.
Two right turns and you will come to the buzzing Place de Clichy, with great restaurants, a handy metro stop, and enlish language cinemas. Turn left and, if you aren't drawn into the friendly neighborhood cafe just at the corner, you will come to Montmarte Cemetery, a leafy oasis in a busy city.
The apartment itself was recently fully renovated and furnished, combining the best of traditional Parisian apartments (fine moldings, parquet floors, floor to ceiling windows) with all modern conveniences.
The bright and inviting living room features beautiful ceiling plasterwork, parquet floors and a marble fireplace. Floor to ceiling windows overlook the Cité des Fusains, an artists' complex in an historic half-timber building. The buildings surround a central courtyard, whose trees project above the low buildings, adding to the view.
The living room is furnished with a high quality sofa bed which converts to a double bed. This room easily transforms to a pleasant bedroom in the evening.
The dining area features a round table big enough to comfortably seat four people.
The bright and spacious master bedroom has floor to ceiling windows also overlooking the artists' colony. The room is furnished with a luxurious queen size bed and features a desk area with a computer and broadband internet access. There is also a classic French armoire to provide you with storage facilities for your clothes and belongings.
The bedroom can be accessed either from the living room or fom the hallway, which is especially nice if somebody is sleeping.
The kitchen is fully equipped, with a stove, oven, microwave and refrigerator/freezer, and boasts a window overlooking the Montmartre Cemetery, with a row of trees adding to the sense of green space and tranquillity.
As is typical in Paris, the bathroom is split into two parts. One has a good, strong hot shower, a sink, and a washer/dryer, and then there is a separate half bath with a toilet and a sink. You do not have to go through either the bedroom or living room to get access to either part.
The entry hall has an antique coat rack to provide you with plenty of storage for your coats, sweaters, keys, shopping and more. This is a friendly, easy-living apartment- comfortable and homey, it is a great pied a terre in Paris. |
