NEW for 2010! Now with CLEAR, CLEAN county water! This quaint cottage home is the PERFECT place to relax, and to also enjoy the tropical landscaping while sitting on our private wood deck. It is located in a very quiet and safe neighborhood on a lot with numerous flowering plants and palms. We are less than a mile (and much closer 'as the crow flies') from one of the most BEAUTIFUL beaches in the world - Nokomis beach and Casey Key.
You can easily ride a bike or walk to the beach! The road leading to the beach was just repaved and now includes a bike path. On the way to the beach, stop in at Pelican Alley (for the BEST crabcakes), or Pop's (fish and chips anyone?) and have a bite to eat...they are great casual restaurants right on the intracoastal waterway. There is also a general store, homemade ice cream, a surf shop, and water sports rentals all within walking distance of our home.
Our home features a private screened in patio made of terracotta tile with a teak wooden table and chairs for outdoor dining. The screened lanai area opens up to an open-air, private wooden deck which is surrounded by lush tropical landscaping. This area is perfect for star watching at night, tanning in private, or for letting your children go outside to play in an enclosed and safe place! There's even a hammock for that favorite book (or maybe a nap?). It is a very spacious deck. It's the most amazing open-air, peaceful feeling...
The inside of the home is like new... freshly painted and newly decorated. There is a beautiful small dining room area... perfect for a nice dinner. There are many comfortable places to sit and relax throughout the home, which is very comfortable and cheery. We offer big closets in the bedrooms and dressers for all of your storage needs. There is a breakfast nook and also a beautiful, small dining area. From there, you may even have a VIEW OF THE BAY.
The other feature about this house that we must mention is that no matter which window or door you are looking out of, the view is gorgeous. Our lot is a corner lot, so the views feel very open as is the 'tropical nature' around our home. Here, you will find locals walking, running, or biking in our pedestrian friendly neighborhood.
There are even 3 neighborhood parks - all within a few blocks of our home. 2 are directly on the waters of Lyons Bay for your fishing pleasure. THE CLOSEST BEING ONLY STEPS FROM OUR FRONT DOOR!
The historical downtown Venice is only two miles south and provides quaint antique shops. Siesta Key and the Village is only 25 minutes north, as is Sarasota's Main Street which features many restaurants and shops. Visit Saint Armands Circle, 35 minutes north for more great shopping and restaurants! Disney World and all of the other Orlando attractions are just 2 hours away!
One more reason why you will want to come to Nokomis is that EVERY WEDNESDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT on the beach is 'drums by the sunset' which you have to experience in order to appreciate the beauty of it. Anyone who has a drum... any kind of drum... will bring it to the beach where a big group of local drummers drum their drums until the sun sets (starting an hour before sundown).
There you will find locals and tourists alike dining in the sand, playing in the sand and dancing in the sand. I'll never forget the first time we witnessed it. We were mesmerized! There were families with blankets all over the beach, kids playing, honeymooners enjoying the romantic mood, people with lightweight plastic tables and chairs made up to look ELEGANT with beautiful tablecloths and linen napkins, etc, champagne on ice, wine, fruit and cheese platters, and anything else you could IMAGINE to bring in a picnic basket or cooler.
All of that coupled with the great SUNSET and the beat of the drums is an amazing experience...
We look forward to serving you in any way we can and if you have ANY additional questions, just CALL Michelle or Steve right now!

We felt at home the minute we walked through the front door! Steve and Michelle provided everything needed for a day at the beach or just being comfortable at home. The cottage was neat and clean and we especially enjoyed the tropical landscaping, lanai, and large deck. The neighbors were welcoming and friendly and it was a good place to walk our dog. It was an easy walk to Nokomis Beach and we enjoyed the parks along Lyons Bay Road. We found many things to do within a short drive...Siesta Key #1 beach, downtown Venice, Oscar Scherer State Park, Van Wezel performance center in Sarasota and numerous restaurants. We are very much looking forward to our stay next year. Thanks Steve and Michelle!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This house was just what we wanted for our Florida vacation. It was very clean, tastefully decorated, contained all of the necessary items of home, and was everything we could ask for. We especially liked the deck atmoshpere for our morning coffee and evening cocktails. The neighborhood was quiet, well kept, and friendly. The girls usually drove to the nearby beach, but the guys walked the mile. We found the restaurants close by to be very good. Our favorite was the Pop's Sunset Grille. I highly recommend this house and I look forward to visiting it again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Lyons Bay Cottage is a sweet, little oasis tucked away in a lovely neighborhood. Once there, you feel the warmth of a home and find you settle right into "your cottage." The rooms are bright and comfortable. It is a home away from home, with easy access to the beach, stores, etc. And, the beach is wonderful....good sand and shelling and large enough to find private places if you wish. My stay was delightful and helped me to make the decision to purchase my own place in Florida.Owner response: Thank you, Joan. We sincerely appreciate the kind words. Steve and Michelle

Why the Owner Chose Nokomis:
Nokomis/Casey Key - with its building height restrictions - is an 'old Florida' oasis in a state abounding with high rise beach-front condominiums. Here you will find miles long pristine white sandy beaches that suits both the family atmosphere, and also more secluded spots for those seeking out the private, romantic getaway.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Walk or ride bikes on a peninsula with an eclectic mix of multi-million dollar homes, the more modest single family homes, dotted with 1920's era Spanish style homes. Or launch kayaks at the neighborhood park only 2 homes away.
