PERFECT HIDEAWAY

Guest: Kelli,Christian and Margaux (Indy)
Date of Stay: 09/02/11 Review Submitted: 09/18/11

Clean, comfortable, quiet, cozy place. We were close to all the sites, but far away from all the congestion and noise. Tom was a great host, payment by check was all on the up and up, old school ways. We love vacationing with our dog, and she enjoyed the trails and beaches as much as we did. Everything worked as described, electric grill was a pleasant surprise. We would stay here again, real good deal for us.

Amazing Vacation

Guest: Steve & Andra (Michigan)
Date of Stay: 07/23/11 Review Submitted: 08/03/11

Thank you Tom and Kathy for an amazing vacation. We truly had a great time. The Tree House was exactly as pictured, and the bed was perfect. We experienced so much...Empire for the beach, Christmas Cove for the beach and rocks, Peterson Park for the rocks (the only thing climbing back up the stairs with our "rocks" we felt like we were on the biggest loser). Leland, Sutton's Bay and Glen Arbor, Sleeping Bear Dunes. The time on the beach, shopping and the awesome food we had was exactly what we needed. Clam strips at Fischers were amazing and all the food we had was awesome. Ending our night at the garage was also fun, getting to know the locals and the band. The deer we saw on two occasions sitting out on the deck and the scenery was so relaxing. We were very comfortable in the tree house, plenty room for both of us. You both were amazing hosts, but as you know we were up and gone every day for a fun filled day. We did also get to hear the coyotes one night. Thank you very much for sharing this week with us and we will come back. Steve and Andra

Amazing Property, Wonderful Hosts, and a Beautiful Setting

Guest: Monica (Ann Arbor, MI)
Date of Stay: 06/25/11 Review Submitted: 07/17/11

Tom and Kathy's Tree House Studio actually EXCEEDED our expectations - we had one of the most restful, enjoyable vacations ever when we stayed here for a week during the end of June 2011. The property itself was a spacious, wooded site that was truly quiet, peaceful, and private. The studio itself was clean and well-appointed - it's very clear that Tom and Kathy are very proud of their home (which they had designed themselves). They really have put a lot of thought in what they provide for their guests, and the place itself is clean and spotless. The bed - a wonderful king-size Tempur-pedic - provided us with some of the best sleep, especially when combined with the incredible quiet and nature sounds from the surrounding woods. Tom and Kathy make it a point to allow renters to have their complete privacy. In a funny twist of fate, our car broke down 40 minutes away from the Tree House. And this is where no hotel or other VRBO place can compare to Tom and Kathy: Tom and Kathy, with kindness and good humor, drove out 40 minutes to rescue us, drove us back to the Tree House Studio along with good conversation and wonderful roadside commentary on what we should visit once our car was fixed, and then arranged for us to ride with them into Traverse City (which was where our car was towed to) so we could pick up our car. Getting to know Tom and Kathy was actually a real gift in the midst of our vacation - we really appreciated their genuine kindness and thoughtfulness. Tom and Kathy truly are wonderful people - and that's some very strong reassurance to have when you commit to renting a place for at least a week. The Tree House Studio is close to everything. Before and after our car broke down, we enjoyed all of the wineries, beaches, lake views, and cherries available in the area. The studio itself has Direct TV, and we had a great time watching movies late at night, eating smoked fish and drinking wine we had purchased earlier in the day. There really isn't a lack of activities to be had around the Tree House Studio - and you can just stay at the Studio all day too! We will definitely be coming back to the Tree House Studio - it's a special place in a beautiful setting with, most importantly, wonderful hosts. We had a memorable time here. Tom and Kathy - a huge thank you to you both! See you soon!

Owner response:Thank you for being such great renters, Monica & Deokhyo. We really enjoyed having you stay at the Tree House. Glad to be of assistance when you were stranded in Glen Arbor. That's not something that happens to our renters, very often, but we are here if you need us. We'd do it again... "in a heartbeat". Please come back and visit. Tom & Kathy

Would Like To Return

Guest: Gary & Jacque (Lake Orion, MI)
Date of Stay: 10/07/10 Review Submitted: 10/23/10

We spent three nights in early October and absolutely loved it. The leaves were so colorful, and the owners, Tom and Kathy, couldn't have been nicer to us and our Lab puppy, Sam. The spacious woods are great for taking quiet walks, and the "hidden" Adirondack chairs are a perfect place to read a book and enjoy nature. We'd definitely like to return sometime.

(Unedited from our guest book) Tom & Kathy, Already so many good things have been said about the fantastic Tree House, the area, the food, etc. (in your guest book). To add just a little more, we loved the apartment; the freedom that comes with coming and going without having to disturb anyone. Your property is beautiful and perfectly maintained. You both are so kind and friendly, to the point that it is a little disappointing to leave. I really don't think we could have asked for a better place, or time, to vacation. We thank you for more than we can possibly express. Karen & Brian

Clean, private, comfortable studio nestled in beautiful woodlands

Guest: L & G (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Date of Stay: 09/05/10 Review Submitted: 09/09/10

We truly enjoyed our stay at the treehouse with our dog. There are nice long paths throughout the property and a platform with comfortable chairs deep within the woods. Coyotes were heard at night. The bed was comfortable and the tree house was well appointed. It's located down a long winding driveway in the forest. We drank coffee and used the wifi at Brew North in Northport. Nearby Peterson Park overlooks Lake Michigan with a fabulous view for sunset and Christmas Cove is a good swimming spot, both of which are free. Eat Spot offered great carry-out food. The owner offers a useful basket of menus, area guides and brochures, and a detailed map of all of the back roads and region's attractions.

Relaxing little cabin in the woods

Guest: groupeymoon (Washington, DC)
Date of Stay: 08/16/10 Review Submitted: 08/24/10

My husband and I stayed in the Treehouse cabin on our recent stay in Northport for our one year anniversary vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Treehouse. It was nestled away in the woods and afforded great privacy. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed, and was convenient to all the activities we wanted to enjoy in the area. Tom and Kathy were great - they respected our privacy, but were always there for any questions we had. My parents are considering a vacation to the area soon - I will strongly recommend the Treehouse to them too!

What a wonderful treat to stay at such a well-maintained apartment for a week of relaxation! I brought my dog, Briee, with me and the Treehouse was a wonderful accomodation from which to launch out from for our daily exploration of the Leelanau peninsula. The description of the apartment is spot on and the price is right. Tom Larkin was very helpful and friendly. This place will definitely be on my "must do again" list.

We stayed in the tree house with our 8-year-old daughter during a family reunion in July 2010. It was such a peaceful, quiet spot, with trees all around. The bed was extremely comfortable and everything was very clean. This property also has a very convenient location -- just a few minutes from town, but also very private and secluded. It's the perfect spot for a small family on a budget!

Date of Stay: 07/03/10 Review Submitted: 07/21/10

We returned to The Tree House this summer after an enjoyable stay two years ago. We found it to be just as we remembered it. The owners do a fantastic job of maintaining it, as it shows absolutely no wear and tear from two years ago and is in impeccable condition. We're grateful for such a nice place where our little dog is welcome too. The Tree House is perfect for a couple to use as a home base for exploring the area. Tucked away in a forest, yet close to so much to do. Tom & Kathy are perfect hosts who obviously take pride in their accommodations and see to it that guests have all they need for a relaxing week. We'll definitely return for a third visit when our travels take us back to the Traverse City/Leelanau peninsula area.

We definitely recommend renting the Treehouse. Tom and Kathy are such generous and gracious hosts; we couldn't have asked for better. It is very clean and tidy, very peaceful and relaxing. We loved just sitting on the deck and reading or having lunch. It is a short drive from a lot of good restaurants, wineries, and beaches. If your goal is to relax or to take advantage of nature, this is your place. Next time we come, we will bring our mountain bikes and kayaks... We highly recommend renting and will be back ourselves! Thank you, Tom & Kathy for a wonderful experience!

We just spent a wonderful week staying at the tree house. It is very comfortable and convenient to several local attractions- Leelanau State Park, vineyards, hiking trails, beaches and shopping. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing on the deck each evening reading and listening to nature. The treehouse accomodations were delightful and perfect for us and our dog Laci. She loved the trails on the property. An added bonus is that there is a peach stand within walking distance!!

We had a great stay at The Treehouse! Tom is a wonderful host. It's a very unique place to stay. We loved being in the forest and just sitting on the deck each morning drinking coffee. The Treehouse is also very close to Leelanau State Park hiking trails and there is a short hike through the woods and dunes to the most beautiful beach on Lake Michigan. We collected Petoskey stones at Peterson Park and went kayaking on peaceful Kehl Lake. We also took day trips to different beaches, hikes, shops, and wineries around Glen Arbor, Suttons Bay, and Leland. If you love the outdoors then you will love staying at The Treehouse.

The Tree House is in the midst of a woodland paradise! Private, secluded, well decorated apartment with nice amenities, and a beautiful trail system... My husband, Glenn, stayed there while I was a lighthouse keeper at the Grand Traverse Lighthouse this week. My partner keeper, Barb, and I looked forward to coming to the Tree House every night when we got off duty at 6PM. A drink on the deck and a nice dinner after a day of lighthouse keeper chores was just what we needed before heading back to the lighthouse for the night. Saw 7 deer from the deck one night. Tom and Kathy are great hosts and were kind to share their campfire with us. The Tree House is just a great place to stay. We would return without hesitation!!

Just ended a short stay at the Tree House and found everything just as represented in the VRBO listing. The setting in the woods was just perfect for us, and it is just a short, but quiet, driveway away from the highway. There is a lot to see within a short distance from the Tree House and we found road biking to be very enjoyable as well as hiking. The Tree House is a perfect place to experience the quiet "up north" county.

We just ended a wonderful week at the Tree House! It's a perfect spot for enjoying nature at her best and the Tree House is very well equipped for cooking up the local produce and freshly caught fish....as well as tasting wine made locally. Our golden retriever seems very sad today; we think she's missing all her walks in the forest and her swims in the lakes....and so are we! The Larkins were perfect hosts & even graciously shared their campfire with us (and our wet dog)one evening. We're so looking forward to our next visit!

The Treehouse was the perfect place for our relaxing, beautiful honeymoon! After the very hectic period of getting everything set for the wedding, it was fantastic to just sit on the nearby beach, read books on the shady deck, hike the local trails, share a bottle of wine under the stars and just listen to the wind in the trees. We found so much to do in the nearby area, we never even drove south of Omena. Leelanau State Park has trails and beaches, and Northport holds restaurants and quaint shops. But mainly, we just relaxed; there were days we didn't even get in the car! The Treehouse is cozy and secluded yet close to everything we needed. We were able to unwind and rejoin the "real world" connected and refreshed.

I just spent a couple of restful nights at the Tree House and it was wonderful..quiet, clean, and a great location. Mornings sitting with my (well behaved:) dog on the deck, drinking tea, watching birds, and hearing not much more than the wind in the trees was the perfect antidote to a crazy work week. I highly recommend this place, not only to couples but to singles and friends that don't mind sharing a nice big (and comfy) bed.

The Tree House apartment was beautiful and very clean. The sound of the wind in the trees was so peaceful at night. Northport was great. We went hiking, at the state park, great dinners in Fish town and at Fischers. I think the best part was having coffee on the deck at the tree house in the morning. It was so relaxing. Tom and Kathy were lovely hosts and gave us great ideas on how to spend our time in Northport. We hope to go back next year and stay longer.

We spent an enjoyable and relaxing week at The Tree House. This is a perfect spot for a couple. What a great private hideaway at the end of the day. It was so quiet that the only sound we could hear was the breeze through the trees as we enjoyed a bottle of wine on the deck or drifted off to sleep. We have rented many vacation spots through VRBO and have always had great experiences. The hosts of The Tree House have thought of everything for a comfortable stay and the studio was spotless upon our arrival. The informational brochures in the studio were helpful in planning our days and providing additional information about events and sites that we had researched in advance. We found the location to be slightly off the beaten path (which we appreciated), yet close enough to all that the Leelanau Peninsula and the greater Traverse City area offer. We particularly enjoyed visiting the wineries on the Old Mission Peninsula north of downtown Traverse City and exploring the charming local towns connected by scenic, meandering roads. We would definitely stay at The Tree House in the future and would not hesitate for a moment referring our family and friends. This place is a treasure.

(Unedited from our guest book) Tom & Kathy: Your Beech Maple forest is beautiful. So nice to see pristine Beech and loads of Sugar Maple. Wild leeks everywhere, on every trail - delicious too! Two doe feeding near the road - viewed from the deck. Keil Lake - crystal clear, northern flickers, king birds & more. Northport beaches are beautiful parks for our daughter & ice cream too! Donuts at Barb's - Yum! Wonder if the locals are asking "They ever put that green canoe in the lake?". Mud Lake - bullfrogs croak, turtle peeps, loon calls. Eagles nest lies empty at the top of a birch. Nothing in plain sight. State park beaches are sandy & white, storm rolls in and the rain barely reaches us under the wooded canopy. Glen Lake is as turquoise as the Carribean! Stunning! Crystal River, requires a kayak, but glad we did it! Whitefish fresh from Fishtown never tasted better. The Hummingbird pair decided our family (including Ginger) was harmless. Sleeping Bear Dunes where Shalda Creek meets Lake Michigan - we had the beach to ourselves Sunset at the lighthouse. Petosky lotto hit at Mud Lake. Thanks for your hospitality. The Tree House was very comfortable and we made ourselves right at home. It was SO nice to have the trails on your property to exercise our 9 month old lab! All the best Gretchen, Todd, and Audra PS: Great for chicken & pilsner at Fisher's. Thanks for your tips!

This was our first experience with VRBO, and we were delighted by "The Tree House". We arrived burdened by life's stresses and left refreshed and relaxed. The accomodations were excellent, plus we really appreciated the friendliness of our hosts, Tom and Kathy. They went out of their way to make sure our visit was pleasant, including providing a map of places to visit in the area that only the locals know about. We would definitely recommend The Tree House to other couples looking for a relaxing get-a-way! Thanks, Kathy and Tom!

My husband and I stayed at the Tree House in July and had a very relaxing and quiet week there. The cabin was very clean and comfortable.

What a great way to spend our 13th anniversary! The Tree House was a perfect, peaceful way to re-charge and re-connect. We hope to return if availability and our vacation time will allow us to rent again next year.

(Unedited from our guest book) We are sitting on the deck, on our last night, enjoying a glass of L.Mawby Cremont sparkling wine. We have, thoroughly, enjoyed our week here - celebrating 13 years of marriage. We rode bikes, hiked, went to Christmas Cove more than once, Petersen Park, various wineries & on the tall ship Manitou for a wine cruise. Like I said, we, throughly, enjoyed our week - especially the quiet of the Tree House. Thanks for a great week - The Wrights, Fraser, MI.

(Unedited from our guest book) Tom & Kathy: Nice little getaway place! Very peaceful, quiet, & scenic. Christmas Cove is a very nice beach to visit. Northport a nice little town. Happy hour very good food! The Tree House is a good place to get away from everybody; the city, noise, etc. and really just chill out! Thanks again! Tim & Sue Lawrence Maumee, Ohio

Thanks so much for a relaxing get-away! The bed was indeed comfortable and it was soooo quiet, surrounded by trees and wildlife. We really enjoyed walking the trails through the woods with our two pups ... all the way to the beach! Now that we are home I think they are kind of sad .....?! I have many happy memories of Northport, so was great to return and visit the "old haunts"! Thanks again! Julie & Jerry Diehl

Thank you Tom & Kathy, we truly had a vacation to remember. You have a wonderful little hideaway in your "Tree House" studio apartment in Northport, MI. It was very quiet, peaceful and very relaxing much better than any hotel/motel, we felt right at home. There are to many beautiful sights to mention them all, but Peterson Park is a must see for a sunset view. We also enjoyed the Lighthouse which is very close by. We will definitely pass the word that you are "First Class Hosts" and we hope to see you next year.

What a great place to get away from it all. Tree House was wonderful, neat, clean and the king size bed soooo comfortable. Besure to take a lunch and visit Peterson Park, breathtaking view of the water. Couldn't ask for nicer hosts. Hope to go back next year. Ron & Shirley

(Unedited from our guest book) This is truly an enchanting place! We loved EVERY moment! Time simply evaporated. The Tree House is perfectly named! It is also impeccably equiped. Your hideaway satified our goals, and more. We plan on returning next year for another respite. Tom & Kathy, you are first class hosts! Thank you for a memorable week! Fondly and thankfully, George and Jan
