  We were very disappointed with the condition of our rental. Upon arrival at the White House & Cottage, we discovered several items in need of repair: - A broken outlet cover in the kitchen showing exposed electrical wiring, right at eye level for children. - Three separate wood banister post heads on the decks that were not attached to the banister and fell off when touched. - The kitchen and bathroom trash cans were cracked or broken. - Shelf in the refrigerator door was missing, limiting the space that could be used. - Upstairs toilet flushed so slowly that it clogged constantly. - A step on the cottage deck stairs was not nailed down and the step slipped when stepped on. - One of the upstairs bedroom door knobs stuck and was very difficult to open. During our stay, it jammed shut and we were not able to get into the room for several hours until the rental company came and fixed it. - One of the queen bed frames was missing screws so it squeaked constantly, making it hard to sleep. We eventually just moved the mattress to the floor. - Several window screens were missing, making it impossible to open some of the windows without bugs coming in. - Several light bulbs were burnt out. - There were no washcloths provided in the downstairs bathroom and many of the towels were old and frayed. - The glassware provided was limited, with only four wine glasses for a house that sleeps 12. - Several of the slats in the horizontal blinds were bent or missing. We contacted the rental management company regarding these issues and they did not seem to understand why we were not happy. Kept saying they had never received negative feedback before. They fixed a couple items but that did not change the fact that the condition of the house did not meet the expectations laid out on the website. Overall, the house looks run down and is poorly maintained. We asked for a refund of part of our rental cost and were told that they would ask the owners. However, we never heard back on this. We will not be renting again. If future renters are looking for a house that is maintained as a “premier property” as the website states, we recommend selecting another location.

  We compiled a list of complaints and concerns for your review. Our rental was from July 27th-August 3rd. complaints July 27th-August 3rd. 1. lack of response to repeated phone calls regarding our complaints 2. substandard cleaning 3. no coffee pot in the cottage although we were told there would be (this was rectified) 4. very limited internet access in the cottage and no internet the first couple of days 5. window blinds are filthy and most non-functional 6. Bedroom near the bathroom in cottage had a very dirty blanket and a disgusting bed skirt 7. under the bed was NOT cleaned 8. cleaning crew that was asked to return on Monday the 30th. broke a blind and left it laying on top of recyclables. 9. bedroom near the bathroom in the cottage~closet door fell on renters head~worn out from wear 10. no proper can opener~one found broken completely (rusted) and the other is broken as well 11. no notification about the lawn people coming on Wednesday 12. freezer in cottage smells 13. broken deck step knobs 14. broken lawn chairs 15. propane ran empty 16. loose front step on cottage 17. access to the beach for an 80 y/o was misrepresented ~complicated and too far 18. cottage kitchen tap leaks 19. White House upstairs shower head was clogged 20. bedroom windows in White House will not open upstairs and aren't screened 21. Filthy back door mat in white house 22. Dirty hamper left in laundry room with old towel and pillow inside 23. Single bed in upstairs white house with dirty bed spread and stinky pillow sham. 24. not enough pillow cases 25. Trash left in garbage can on back patio 26. dirty dust mop, no broom, no cleaning tools in cottage at all 27. no ice trays 28. moldy/mildew bathrooms and hair obviously left in drain This was to be a special vacation for our 80 y/o mother who is particularly frail and requires cleanliness to relax!! Needless to say there was little relaxing.
