As the youngest sister in a family with 5 kids, I was in charge of planning the first ever sibling getaway. We ranged in age from 48 - 61. Spouses were included : ) Everyone was a little wary of spending a week-end all under one roof - that hadn't happened in over 40 years! This property was PERFECT! The five bedrooms allowed us all our own room. The living area & kitchen were perfect. We each were assigned certain meals we were responsible for --- so there was lots of food and plenty of room to prepare it all! The additional refrigerator downstairs was great for all the food and drinks. The large porch overlooking the lake was the perfect! We spent many hours eating & laughing out there! The bathrooms are beautiful! The walk down to the lake was easy and the dock is great! Our daylight hours were spent on the dock. We rented a pontoon boat for the week-end and enjoyed coming and going as we wanted. This area on the lake is relatively quiet and very family oriented. We only used the pool table once because the weather was perfect and we had a lot of catching up to do BUT it certainly is a great amenity to have in case of rain, etc. There is a beautiful pool & tennis courts & dining complex so close but we didn't have time to use it. We will definitely be back as we determined that this sibling getaway was long overdue! Thank you so much for opening your property for the enjoyment of others!
Owner response:Thanks for the wonderful review. A pleasure to see after our only less than perfect review just before your stay. Thanks for renting with us.

The house and facilities were as advertised. The recreation facilities available were superb. The negatives include a filthy grille; sliding glass door tracts so dirty, it took an adult both hands to open the door; refrigerators with the doors full of food, both with food in the freezers, one with a good portion full of beer, etc., thus limiting usable space; all kinds of foreign objects and food under the sofa cushions; the mattresses on beds were stained and no pads were provided. The downstairs front bedroom had an overwhelming odor of cat urine which remained the entire week. There was no comment when this was reported to the owner. Supplies were not easily found; exp. soap bars, rather than being placed in the bathrooms, were discovered in the utility room in basement after we purchased our own. In spite of the negatives our family had a fun vacation at the Clarke home.
Owner response:We address all issues promptly if reported. First, we advertise 1 refrigerator on VRBO not two. The second is for our personal items. We accomodated the renter and allowed her to use our personal refrigerator. We do not advertise that we provide any supplies, however we try and keep soap, trash bags, toilet paper, paper towels as a courtesy. The soap was in the utility room. This is not an out of the way location in our opinion. The sliding glass doors were off the track, a simple call would have resulted in our handyman fixing the situation. Regarding items under the sofa cushions, very possible as we do a deep clean a couple of times a year. The cat urine comment is the most upsetting given the renter did not include the fact that we allowed them to bring their dog to the house. They reported a "cat urine" issue at 9 am friday as they were checking out and complained they had suffered through it the entire week. Stanley Steamer was there with our housekeeper within the hour and remedied the situation. An animal had urinated on the throw rug by the door. It was laundered and the smell disappeared. Stanley Steamer cleaned the room regardless but could find no other urine other than that on the rug (using his black light). No I did not respond to the renter as her dog apparently did the damage. No I did not withhold her deposit although I regret that in hindsight. She also does not mention that she had almost 25 people in the house for the reunion. The house was the filthiest we have ever had to deal with. On the grill.. we replace them every 2 years and we are at that time now.. the new grill was delivered on August 19th. The old one was at the end of its useful life. We leave our salt, pepper, mustard, catsup, etc.. for our guests. Our other renters appreciated the guesture/convenience. As you can see from other renter comments.. 15 have rated us a perfect 5 out of 5 until this rating. I think Barnum said it best and it applies here. Lastly.. the renter forgets that we had the house sprayed by an extermintor just 2 days before their arrival due to her fear of bed bugs. I called him and he reported the house spotless and without smell. All of the items she has brought to light have been addressed. I apologize if she had a bad experience. We take great pride in our home and address any issue promptly if reported. The renter mentioned only the refrigerator prior to departure.

We had a marvelous time this past weekend! Our grandchildren loved swimming in the lake and roasting hot dogs over the fire pit :-) You have a very comfortable home--we totally enjoyed staying there. The boys loved the pool table and fishing in the lake. Our oldest granddaughter said it was the "best" place we have ever stayed in for our Annual Family Vacation!
Owner response:Thank you so much Please come again

Our family of 12 came to South Carolina to celebrate our daughter's graduation from Clemson University. We could not have picked out a better place to stay than the Clark Lake House! The house had plenty of room and provided every amenity needed for a great weekend stay. The lake itself is just magnificient and the view from the dock is breathtaking. We spent every night huddled around the campfire telling stories and enjoying each other's company. The owner, Steve, was a pleasure to work with and could not have been more accommodating. Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer and hope to return soon!
Owner response:Thanks Bernie It was a pleasure having you and your family

Our extended family enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the Clark home. The home is lovely and was was more than big enough for the 8 adults and three active children on our trip. The house was clean and well-equipped. The front yard is nicely landscaped, and the backyard is a natural, wooded lot with a sidewalk that runs all the way down to the boat dock, making it easy to move between the dock and the house without worrying about making a big mess! The adults enjoyed soaking up some sunshine while reading on the back deck, shooting pool, and catching up with their favorite college football teams on the big screen TV. The kids had a blast at the beautiful clubhouse pool and playground. And we all ventured into charming Westminster to visit the SC Apple Festival. We had a great weekend. I would highly recommend the Clark home to any family looking to spend some quality time together.

We had 7 people stay for 3 days in this house and it was awesome. The house was very comfortable, the amenities were great, the dock worked out fantastic. It was so peaceful sitting on the deck and grilling with our friends. We will be back!

My family and several friends spent a week here in July 2010 and were very pleased. The house is nice and has a lot of beds, plus a screen porch plus deck with a grill. There's a nice paved walk to a very nice dock with good water (over 8 feet). Harbor Light Marina is 20 minutes away where we rented a boat several days. Also has good wifi and a pool table. We'd rent again there. Kids like eating at Fatz Cafe and the Pizza place down Hwy 11. Good cheap 9 hole golf course (foxwood) 5 minutes away. tennis courts included in the neighborhood.
Owner response:I would like to thank David for the response. We have gone out of the way to make our home a wonderful place to come. Glad others see it that way also.

We couldn't have asked for more in the Clark Lake House! There was plenty of room for both families - 4 adults and 5 children. The amenities were quite comfortable. We rented 2 boats at the Harbor Light Marina -- only a 15 minute drive and thoroughly enjoyed all the lake had to offer. We enjoyed roasting marshmallows over the open fire pit, grilled out on the deck and enjoyed the view of the lake, and fished from the dock. Access to the community pool was a bonus. We would definitely like to go back again and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Clark Lake House and the water skiing on Lake Hartwell! It was one of our best vacations!

We had a great time at this beautiful home. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The dock is great and so is the walk down to the lake. We spent a lot of time at the pool (which is huge) at the clubhouse. Our first time to this Lake and we loved it. Will definitely visit again!

This is a lovely lake home. The paved walk to the dock is a wonderful amenity - no muddy feet. The cove is very large and active, and the water is clean. The house is perfectly furnished and is located in a very nice neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay here very much!

Each Fall our entire family looks forward to our annual Lake Hartwell/Clemson Tailgate weekend. This year, after searching on VRBO, we chose the Clark Home. This was our best year yet! The house was very roomy and easily accomodated all 10 adults and three children. We LOVED the views of the lake from the family room and unlike previous years, the short path to the lake was more (easily) accessible and safe for our children. The area was very quiet and peaceful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the convenience of the Community clubhouse which was home to a wonderful restaurant, tennis courts, a playground for the children, and a large pool (for summer guests!) Our drive to Clemson took less than 20 minutes, and we even pulled off a great win! We had a fantastic weekend, and our only disappointment was that we could not stay longer. We look forward to returning next year!

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all that have or will visit our home. It is our intent to create a "second to none" lake home on Hartwell. This is our private summer home which we rent 6 weeks per year. I welcome any comments you may have that would improve upon our lake experience. Thank you.
