The Carriage House is definitely "A Little Slice of Heaven." We've been coming back each year for the past 6 years, and always leave looking forward to returning. From the perfect location on gorgeous Hanalei Bay, to the beautiful gardens with orchids and bronze statues and the Koi pond, to having everything you would ever need in the home, plus sand toys and boogie boards for the kids, it always makes for a terrific vacation.Did you find this review helpful? It is truly better than the pics. It is an absolutely perfectly manicured sice of paradise. The grounds are immaculate and the location can't be beat! The best sunrises and sunsets are right in front of you. A welcome basket greeted us and the hosts are very nice. Hurry and book your stay!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: WOW! Thank You Sandra. Tom

This was a double graduation present for our two girls; one from college, the other from HS. Coming from the east coast (stopping on Oahu for a few days first), we were looking forward to a special vacation. This is our 3rd VRBO rental, and the first where the owners live on the same lot as the rental. While that might sound awkward, Tom and Candi seemed "absent", yet good at being around if you had a question or two. The property description is plenty accurate, but really doesnt do it justice. The trees and flowers are more mature and beautiful than the photos, I think, and Candi's landscaping work is outstanding. Your 30 second walk (really) to the beach past the main house is on tightly manicured grass, past plumeria flowers (among others) and over sand-dollar shaped stepping stones. Hanalei beach is a great swimming beach (summer waves are small) and even better for morning walks. Beach chairs and snorkel gear, boogie boards, etc., all in fine shape. We are an older family of 4 and had plenty of room. Sometimes the girls took over the bathroom, so I used the outdoor shower; plenty private. At night, the living area was cozy and we played board games, or we watched the satelite TV or a DVD, if we could stay awake. Everything clean and well maintained. We used the table on the deck for nearly all our meals when we werent at one of the bunch of restaurants in town (The Dolphin was our favorite; try the Hebi. Kalypso a close #2.) We stayed for 10 days, and when it came time to leave, we felt like we were leaving family. Truly, we usually dont add the owners of vacation rentals to our Christmas list. Mahalo and Aloha OeRecommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to find this property for our vacation in Kauai and we couldn't have been more pleased. As you drive through the gate, the first thing you notice is the beautifully landscaped yard, even by Kauai standards - orchids by the dozens, a lily pond and magnificent trees. The Carriage House itself is immaculate and beautifully appointed. It is obvious that the owners have traveled extensively because they have thought about everything a traveler might need or want when staying for a week or more - a perfect functioning kitchen, comfortable beds with memory foam mattresses, hi-def TV, and a nice bathroom with a good shower and even a lighted make-up mirror. Families with kids will appreciate the "toys" and the proximity to the Bay. The private outdoor shower (hot water, of course) was the perfect ending to a trip to the beach and to remove all the sand. If we were still kids, we would want all our vacations at the Carriage House. Tom and Candi were always eager to help with any recommendations or directions but always gave us our space unless we had questions - but they are so nice and made you feel like family that you couldn't help but to go out in the morning and talk to Candi while she took care of her orchids. The Carriage House is at the top of our return visit lists and we can't wait to go back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Hello Tom Thank you so much. We are fully settled back in our routine at home but the recent memories of our wonderful holiday in Hanalei are close by and I often look at my photos, especially when its dull and grey outside (like it is today). How I miss those maple syrup waffles at the coffee shop!! I am sure you have quite enough of your own photos of your beautiful home town but I couldn't resist sending you a handful of my favourites. You'll see one taken from your kayak on the river, the water covered with those pretty flowers! The close up of the palm tree with the sun setting behind was taken from the Carriage House! My camera accentuates the colours so the sky looks especially red! Hugo and I hope that you and Candy are well and enjoy a busy year of non-stop guests, which we are sure you will! I'll be in touch later in the year with news of the birth of our little one Take care, warm regards Frances (and Hugo)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Tom, I just wanted to send you a quick note to say thanks and let you know I received the refunded deposit. Everyone in my family had a truly wonderful time in Kauai and it was especially great to be in such a perfect location. The Carriage House was ideal for us, and you and Candi were great hosts. Thanks again! JesseDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

It really is "A little slice of Heaven" with an ideal location on Hanalei Bay and footsteps from the beautiful beach. No crowds on this pristine beach when we were there in June 2008. All the amenities possible are provided by the very nice people who are the owners. They even had my favorite beer in the refrigerator when we arrived! How did they know? Truly a great place to spend a vacation, whether you just want to relax with casual walks on the beach or you want to be active with water sports, golf, tennis, hiking, etc. I strongly recommend this place!!Owner response: Bill and Donna are here almost every year, they are family. My son and I were there for a week, then my husband and daughter joined us...a little small for 4 big people...one bathroom...but the location is so perfect...our hosts are the best couple on the planet...footsteps from the beach. except for food, you never have to leave. true heaven. and love the outdoor shower.Did you find this review helpful? beautiful location but not suited for small children. The house and gardens are decorated in detail with love and beautiful objects. We where there when the owners in the front house where out of town and nobody could help us with anything. After we got back we got charged a way too high extra cleaning fee though we had a Nanny with us who cleaned and washed every day. If you have little children there is nowhere to play for them or roam around. It is taylored for an older crowd I would say.Owner response: A normal cleaning takes 5 to 6 hours. In this case it was almost 16 man hours. Crayons were used on the furniture, walls, woodwork and cabinets. Play dough in the fabric of furniture and ground into the rugs. Folks you just can't do that and not expect to pay the cleaners for their extra time. About 20% of our guests have small children and we enjoy having them. We have toys for them, a crib for the wee ones, and a safety gate for the lanai. The beach is right there with no roads to cross and plenty of beach toys. Aloha, Tom LaCour
