The Grand Canal looking east from the deck. The boat dock is directly below.
Location: Sarasota, Florida South West, Florida, USA (1 Bridge to Intercoastal Waterway Via Canal, 1/2 Mi to Gulf)
Accommodations: Home, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Enjoy the beauty and feel of old Florida. The house is on a wide section of the Grand Canal, which will give you great views across the water from inside the house as well as from outside. The lush tropical vegetation will add to your sense of peace. Observe birds and boats from the lanai, or use it as a sleeping porch. Enjoy the outdoors in privacy on the patio, surrounded by fragrant natal plums overhung by a live oak with stag horn ferns and bromeliads. Watch the sunsets and perhaps even catch a glimpse of manatees from the dock. From your bed, listen to the sounds of fish jumping in the night.
The dock will accommodate a boat up to 25 feet long. Bring your own boat, or rent one locally. You are only one bridge away from the Intercoastal Waterway. There you can go water skiing and boogey boarding or observe the nesting sea birds with their young. From there, it is a short ride to the pass at the north end of Siesta Key and into the Gulf, with gorgeous views of Sarasota and the coastal islands all along the way. You can fish from along the seawall at the house or from your boat in the bay or Gulf.
This 1950s furnished home has an open feeling with lovely views of the outdoors in every direction. The one-story, ground-level floorplan, which gives comfortable access to everyone, is becoming hard to find. Newly tiled, it features a split design with bedrooms and bathrooms at each end of the house. The master bedroom with king-size bed looks out into the foliage of the patio at the west end. The second bedroom, with queen-size bed and an adjoining office area, is at the east end of the house, looking south to the canal. Also at the east end of the house but looking north, the third bedroom has two twin beds. The second bathroom is between the two bedrooms at the east end, giving increased privacy to each. In addition, young children or singles can sleep comfortably on sofa or futon -- or "camp out" on the sleeping porch (lanai).
From the house, you are within a mile of Siesta Key Village with its trendy shops and restaurants. *Recognized for its cool, white, powdery sand, Siesta Key Public Beach -- with its life guards, playground, tennis courts, volleyball, and picnic tables -- is less than a mile and a half away. Across the Intercoastal Waterway, Sarasota offers shopping and business centers, opera, ballet, concerts, and professional theater, Selby Botanical Gardens, Ringling Museum, Mote Marine Aquarium, Myakka River and Oscar Shearer State Parks, and much more.
*Siesta Key is the only Florida beach listed by Travel Channel as “best beaches for romance” and one of two Florida beaches listed as “best beaches for families”! Check it out at the Travel Channel website.
