Exceptional house, spectacular views

Guest: Tiffanie (Irving, TX)
Date of Stay: 04/22/12 Review Submitted: 05/02/12

My husband and I just got back from our stay on the North Shore for our honeymoon. I don't think we could have chose a better place for our stay. This one bedroom house is perfect for 2 people. It provided plenty of space, open floor plan, and amazing views. Our mornings were wonderful spent out on the deck watching the waves crash into the rocks. Most mornings we were greeted with a beautiful rainbow. Public access to the beach is right off of the property to a nice sandy beach and refreshing water. This beach was great as it wasn't overcrowded like I had heard about Waikiki. You could tell it was a favorite among locals since it isn't just off the highway. We felt incredibly safe on this beach. We also enjoyed the town of Haliewa that was about 5 miles down the road. This is a small surfer town with local shops and restaurants with pretty good prices for Hawaii. We especially enjoyed having breakfast at Kono's. They have the best breakfast burritos around! We also had Aoki's shaved ice and that was a refreshing treat. All in all, we had an absolutely wonderful vacation in Hawaii and this house made it special. I highly recommend any couple to stay here. We cannot wait to return.

This is the second time we have stayed here. The interior changes are excellent and the view out the back is still beautiful. The construction next door was no issue for us at the time and we wouldn't have any issue staying there again with it. I hope we can come back soon again.

Ke Iki Beach house

Date of Stay: 11/15/11 Review Submitted: 12/23/11

This is a very nice house for two people. The beach is amazing. The pictures do not do the beach justice because it is perfect. Everything is as advertised. The local contact Aaron is a great guy and very helpful. We were very comfortable in the house. Felt like home. Unfortunately we were there while they were finishing demolition of the house next door. Would definitely stay again (after the house next door is finished).

Fabulous house and location

Guest: KBourke (Santa Barbara, CA)
Date of Stay: 09/06/11 Review Submitted: 09/26/11

We thoroughly enjoyed our week spent here. We were amazed to find Ke Iki Beach, a lovely, nearly private beach, right outside our door. It was quiet, clean, private and comfortable. The house is outfitted with anything you might need. Although why anyone would want to watch TV is beyond us. :) We bicycled to Waimea Falls, walked to Shark's Cove, and wandered down the beach to watch weddings in action. We look forward to staying here again.

Nearly private beach

Date of Stay: 06/11/11 Review Submitted: 06/23/11

For the price it is hard to believe the location. We stayed for a week and at times were completely alone on the beach. The house has a back lawn large enough for my 8 and 10 year to really be able to play. Right off the lawn is the beautiful Ke iki beach. We planned of on lots of touring but loved the location so much we mostly stayed there. We bought groceries and saved a fortune by mostly cooking at the house with a well stocked kitchen. We spent the last 4 nights in waikiki at a 4 star hotel but really missed the house. Great stay. We will do it again.

Real Hawaii

Guest: Nat (Fresno, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/31/11 Review Submitted: 06/12/11

Our recent visit to the Sunset Beach house was wonderful. Everything looked exactly like the pictures. The sunsets were spectacular and a local told us that we had the best location for viewing the sunsets on the whole island. We loved blending into the local scenery, famers' markets, little towns and restaurants. If you want to share the beach with 2000 people, go to Waikiki, but if you want the beach to yourself and a dozen others, come here! The snorkeling at Shark's cove was very close and fun and we loved watching the surfers just 5 minutes away. Thanks Mimi and Aaron for all the help!

We had a great stay here in May 2011. We really liked being right on the beach and being able to walk to the water if just a couple minutes. The house the perfect place for a relaxing vacation. The North Shore was really laid back and just our style. The house isn't anything fancy, but it was great for what we wanted and very comfortable.

A Perfect Get A Way

Guest: J and R (Rocklin, California)
Date of Stay: 05/04/11 Review Submitted: 05/17/11

We stayed at the house May 4, 2011 for 6 nights. It was wonderful. The house looks just like the pictures. Nice furniture and very spacious. We LOVED having a washer and dryer in the house. The kitchen and patio grill were just what we wanted. We saved a lot of money cooking for ourselves versus eating out every day. The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils, cookware and supplies. Having an air conditioner and many fans kept the house nice and cool. The location of the house is perfect…just steps away from Sharks Cove which has some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving in the world. Foodland and Starbucks are just across the street and proved to be very handy for last minute items. Turtle Bay, The Dole Plantation and the Polynesian Cultural Center were a very short drive away. Aaron the property manager was a blessing. He was able to share lots of information about the area and gave some wonderful suggestions for places to eat. Not the touristy places, but places where the locals go. THANKS Aaron! Overall we loved our stay. If we come back to Oahu we would definitely stay here again. Mahalo.

Best spot to be on the North Shore. We swam with sea turtles at Sharks Cove! Laid on the beach for days right outside the back yard. Road bikes on the bike trail and to Food Land grocery store. Used the kitchen instead of eating out every meal saving hundreds of dollars. Had clean clothes and fresh beach towels everyday by using the washer and dryer. Everything you need to thoroughly enjoy the beach is right here!

Perfect House and Location!!

Guest: Bell (Colorado)
Date of Stay: 03/22/11 Review Submitted: 04/03/11

We just visited here March 22-29 and had an absolutely fabulous time! The house was clean and had everything we needed....a well equipped kitchen, outdoor grill, and comfortable furniture. Beach access was just outside the door which allowed us to go days without even putting flip flops on! We would walk down to Sunset Beach everyday and look for great shells, while stopping at points to watch the surfers. Although in need of some board repairs, the deck was the perfect place to start and end our day. Great views of ocean waves, sunsets and whale watching. We checked out other beaches and locations on our last day and realized, hands down, that we had stayed at the perfect location!! We hope to visit the North Shore again and would definitely stay at this house and recommend to anyone visiting here.

Live like a local!!

Guest: Mike (San Jose, CA)
Date of Stay: 03/03/11 Review Submitted: 03/24/11

We had a nice 3 night stay. The house is showing it's age in spots, mostly with the windows, some of which were missing screens or cracked, or unable to secure. But the location is so awesome it makes it easy to overlook these details. The cable TV and high speed internet were a big plus for us, as it was raining for much of our stay. You'll feel like a local here! We got on the bikes with a backpack, rode to the nearby Foodland and then BBQ'd on the deck. If you like hiking there's a great trail at the end of the road PuPukea Road, the Kaunala Trail. You can ride bikes or walk to great beaches, including the one right out the back door!! Both Aaron and Mimi are great, very responsive and helpful. This house is a great value that would be hard to beat.

Best place to stay in Hawaii!!!

Guest: Craig and Barbara (Concord, Ca.)
Date of Stay: 02/14/11 Review Submitted: 05/09/11

The little red house is not only the best place to stay on Oahu, it's the best place in Hawaii! We spent a week feeling like we were part of the community, and what a cool community it is. There's no place like the north shore. It's home to the biggest waves, the prettiest scenery and the coolest people. Stay here for a week and you'll never want to leave. Aaron is a wonderful host, only there when you need him or want the inside scoop on the surf scene and the house is perfect. We loved it. There wasn't anything we went without either. The grocery store is in walking distance, sharks cove, pipeline, it's all right there. You really dont need a car but if you have one, you wont go far, it's all right there where you are! If you really want to relax, this is the place. Start the day on the back deck watching the waves and the whales...I've never seen more, end the evening having a beverage on the deck and watching the sun fade away. We did venture around a couple times but to tell you the truth, there wasn't anything better to see, or anywhere with more to do...or not. It's just a place you'll wish you owned! Thanks Mimi! We'll be back soon!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the red bungelow. Loved having the volcanic rocks and beach right off our back yard so we could walk the beach every morning for more than an hour. The endless beach and wild waves are pure joy. The kitchen was wonderfully equipped with utensils and dishes for every cooking need. The bed, very comfortable, as was the sofa. The new TV was a definate hit. We loved the neighborhood and surrounding towns, especially after commercial Maui and endless golf courses. Manager, Aaron, was very friendly and responsive. Only suggestions would be a little more maintenance: a fresh coat of paint all over would look nice. Kitchen window didnt close (security issues?), living room window cracked and taped., bathroom needed a face lift: was clean, but could use new tiles, etc. Has plenty of great towels for bath and beach. Conclusion: great location, wonderful people, clean and well stocked, needs a little "touch up" in a few spots. . Would stay there again if I could get the chance

Sunset Beach House # 55586

Guest: Tom & Patty (Iowa City, IA)
Date of Stay: 01/19/11 Review Submitted: 03/13/11

We stayed at the North Shore beach house (55586) from January 19 to 26, 2011 and our stay was outstanding. We found the beach house to be very clean and well maintained and in an ideal location that’s close to essentials such as groceries, wine, great beaches, and magnificent sunsets. Foodland is within an easy walk from the house and is a full service super market. The store offers significant discounts for “locals” who present their loyalty cards but visitors can take advantage of these discounts by simply entering your phone number when you check out. The beach house comes with bicycles that put lots of attractions within easy reach after a short bike ride. A bike path is across the street from the beach house and runs parallel to the Kamehameha Hwy. We explored the stretch south to the Waimea Valley which includes Waimea Bay with its beautiful beach and surf, food trucks, local restaurants, church, t-shirts, and much more. To the north, Sunset and Pipeline beaches, pie, and more, all on the bike path that runs the entire distance. Ted’s Bakery is a local hotspot noted for its pies and we made a point to make frequent stops there. I’m sure we undid all the benefits of the bike ride. Aaron is the property manager for the beach house and was a great resource for us during our visit. The house had all the creature comforts such as cable TV, DVD, internet, gas grill, and so on, all of which worked and were on good condition. The kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils, dishes, etc. that anyone would need to prepare meals. Besides keeping the house in great shape, Aaron gave us many tips of local interest that we took advantage of. But one of the best things he did was prompt replacement of the bikes that had been stolen the night before we arrived. Thanks to Aaron, they were promptly replaced and we were peddling on our way in no time. The house is not far from Haleiwa which is a great little town with restaurants and shops that also provided us with wonderful experiences. Shaved ice at Matsumoto’s is a must and we had several great meals at various restaurants in town. All-in-all, we were very pleased with the property and the area. I’m sure if we were ever to return to Oahu, we would stay again at the beach house. Thanks for a great stay. Aloha, Tom & Patty Iowa City, IA

Location, Location, Location

Guest: North Shore Wannabe (Edmonds)
Date of Stay: 12/09/10 Review Submitted: 02/16/11

We spend several weeks on the North Shore at Christmas, and this house was perfect for us. Watching big waves and championship surfing are at the top of our list; we could walk down the beach to the Banzai Pipeline. The beach was never crowded, the shell hunting was great, and we saw several weddings. I also enjoyed watching the local dogs and their owners on their daily beach walks. I loved being able to walk to Foodland and Starbucks. I felt part of the neighborhood. Also, my husband and I need high-speed internet access, and the service was great. The house felt quite private. The neighboring house was empty. The beach access on the other side wasn't a problem as people couldn't really see into the house. I was a bit worried about bugs especially since many of the window screens are loose, but our only visitors were a few small, harmless beetles and some gorgeous geckos (I was told that the house is serviced regularly by Terminix.) The couch was comfortable, the bed was comfortable, the air conditioning unit kept us cool enough, it was great to have free long distance, the TV was great, the BBQ was great. We felt like whatever we needed was there. Issues? No real issues. Just be aware that there's nothing fancy about the finishes in this house. While the furnishings were great, the finishes were like an older, comfortable beach cabin: a bit of mold in the shower, some rotting boards on the deck, window and door screens that would come off their tracks (the can of WD 40 was very handy). The owners and the property manager were wonderful to work with. For the price and for our needs, it was perfect. We would definitely stay here again.

Definite Slice of North Shore Paradise

Guest: Pamela (Corte Madera, CA)
Date of Stay: 11/24/10 Review Submitted: 12/14/10

This is a definite slice of N Shore Paradise! Extremely clean, comfortable, relaxing, fully equipped with all the necessities to make your stay enjoyable. Located right next to Rocky Point where you can speed hours seeking water treasures along the lava rock. Stroll along the 1 mile stretch of beach to Sunset Beach and stop along the way to venture out into the many famous surf spots to catch a wave, watch the surfers, or pick beautiful sea shells. Wake up in the mornings to the gentle sound of the cooing birds and shore breaks. Relax on the lanai or better yet, spread out a blanket under the shady trees in the back yard during the day when you need a little break from the sun. Foodland is within walking distance for a quick grocery run or Starbucks beverage (although a coffee maker is available). MUST indulge in a slice of haupia chocolate pie at Ted's Bakery, of course you'll have to walk back to burn the calories. The kitchen was well stocked, the Big Gas BBQ came in very handy, and having a washer/dryer available was simply divine. Sharks cove is a fantastic place to snorkel and see incredible sea life which is on the other side of Rocky Point. Jump off the rock at Waimea Bay or explore Waimea Falls park which is less than a 5 min drive away. Don't feel like cooking drive less than 15 mins in either direction and pull up a chair at one of the many Turtle Bay restaurants or Joe's in Haleiwa. Matsumoto's shave ice is a must do too. Check out Sea n Surf in Haleiwa if you want to learn how to paddle surf. Easy drive to Polynesian Culture Center, Kualoa Ranch for horseback riding/ATV tours into one of the most sacred places on Oahu. There is so much more to share but am limited due to space. One last thing to mention is Mimi and Anna are the best hosts. They definitely want your stay to be everything you can ever dream of and so much more. Thanks so much for sharing your slice of paradise, we will definitely return soon!!

North Shore Fun!

Date of Stay: 11/10/10 Review Submitted: 11/19/10

Property listing and photos were accurate, house was clean, ammenities worked great (TV/Cable, air conditioning, laundry, etc.), owner was friendly/helpful/fast processing my reservation, offsite property manager was responsive and had great restaurant suggestions. House was easy to find and stocked with movies, books, welcome info. As described, no active construction next door. I'd definately recommend staying here, and would do so again. This was our first time staying on the North Shore among many visits to Oahu, it was great to get away from the crowds at Waikiki. Quiet neighborhood, but close to action at surf spots and surf town, Haleiwa. Loved getting breakfast to go from Ted's Bakery and eating at Sunset Beach.

My wife and I recently stayed in the "red house" for our time on the North Shore. Everything went well and as planned. We found the property fine with good directions provided to us and the key was in the lock box as anticipated. When we showed up the first thing we did was a bit of "baby proofing" for our 1 year old son but everything was pretty much fine. What I liked best about the house was that it was close to the beach and main things one looks for when they are on the North Shore. Its a quick walk to Sharks Cove so we never had to deal with finding parking when we went there. Its very close to Foodland, Starbucks, Ted's, Sunset Beach, Waimea, etc. so we felt the location couldn't have been better. Many thanks.

What a great place!

Guest: TomChar (Des Moines, Iowa)
Date of Stay: 07/26/10 Review Submitted: 08/27/10

I stayed at the house the last week of July with my wife and 2 girls. We're from Iowa and had no intention to surf and were a bit worried about stories of the big surf on the North Shore. We couldn't have been more happy with the location, the beach and the surf. We walked down the steps right behind the house right onto the beach. The summer surf was light and we all swam and snorkelled right behind the house. If you want to get away from the big city crowds, this is the way to go. We never saw more than 20 other people in the half mile or so of beach. Also,it's a short walk to Shark's Cove for some great snorkeling. FoodLand is walking distance away too. We did spend a lot of time in Haleiwa - had to stop at Aokis for shave ice for my girls every time. The house was cozy and clean, the kitchen well-supplied and the bed, couch, and blow up mattress very comfortable. For the surfers, the locals here say that the surfing right behind the house is the best on the island in the winter months... We did go to Waikiki for a day. It is a 25 minute drive away. It was fun but we were very happy to be coming back to the little red house on the beach. Bring your GPS to Oahu. It's worth its weight in gold... We had no issues with the rental agreement, payment or the security deposit. Overall, an easy and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this place to any couple or small family. If I ever come back to Oahu, I plan to see if this house is available again...

This place was so perfect for our family. This is our third time to Oahu and this was by FAR the best stay we have had. We have stayed on the windward side, Waikiki and now on the North Shore. The house exceeded our expectations. Our kids called it the Treehouse. The location was perfect! We walked everywhere on the north shore, Shark's cove, Waimea Bay, Foodland, Sunset Beach. It is so nice to not be in Waikiki the whole vacation. I felt so close to the places I wanted to go to. Hailewa eats was the best restaurant ever. We also enjoyed Lei Lei's at the Turtle Bay resort. The beachfront location is soooo beautiful and perfect. Our kids would just go out every morning and play on the beach with us. The House was clean and everything was there for us including a playpen and booster chair for our 1 year old son. We saved a ton of money buying groceries and cooking in the house. The couch and bed were very comfortable and the kids loved the TV. This is a great house for a romantic getaway or a vacation with family. We will definitly be staying again. This place even had bikes!!! The beach out front is super secluded and gorgeously clear water. The snorkeling around the rocks was very cool. The North Shore is seriously the way to go and this is the place to stay. If you are thinking about it, book it. You will not regret it.

WOW! Best location on Oahu's North shore, literally right on beautiful Ke Iki beach. Short bike ride (which where provided) away from famous surfing beaches, sharks cove and foodland which enabled us to save money and cook all our meals. House was clean and well maintained which was like a home away from home not a hotel room. Aaron, the manager was more than helpful if we needed anything and provided us with lots of local tips. My two young children loved spotting the geckos and using the boogie boards provided. All before 11a.m one morning we had snorkelled with sharks (in a cage and) and then at a nearby beach snorkelled with not 1 or 2 but 12 green turtles an experience we will remember forever!

A few of our favorite things about our visit to the North Shore.... 1) We ate fresh pineapple (on sale at Foodland for 89 Cents each) every day from FoodLand 2)Snorkling-- Sea Turtles & a variety of colorful fish close to shore 3) Walking distance to beaches 4) Positive energy of the North Shore- Like no other place I've been. My husband and I just spent a week at this wonderful location on the North Shore near Shark Cove- and Three Tables-popular snorkeling destinations. We swam, snorkled, and walked the beautiful beaches and neighborhood. We didn't need a car unless we wanted to head to charming Haleiwa for a change of scene (15 minutes). The house has everything one would want for a comfortable stay- a gorgeous view to the beach, beautiful palms and foliage in front-a perfect spot to watch the everchanging scene on the beach, including stunning sunsets. The breezes and air conditioning, fans, kept the rooms cool day and night. We did not want to leave this piece of paradise and hope to return later this year.

This was place was a perfect 10 for my husband and I. We have traveled to several Hawaiian Islands and have always stayed in hotels. We wanted a more casual, relaxed atmosphere this time and love the feel of the North Shore. The house was perfect with walking access to prime beach spots, bike path, food store-everything you need. The house was clean and very comfortable with great views from the living spaces. We will definitely use this place again. Thanks everyone!!

Great place on the beach with excellent views. 5+ minute walk to the grocery store or snokeling. It was quiet and had great parking. Highly recommended!

Our families stay was Awesome!!

Our stay at “The Red House” or as my son called it “The Tree House”, was amazing! My husband and I and our two small kids 1 and 4 stayed here for a week and had so much fun! The house was super clean and had everything we needed. It was very kid friendly and practical. The large flat screen was perfect for the hubby to watch NBA and the kids to watch movies on. The location is great, right on the beach with easy access and what a beautiful beach Ke Iki Beach is!! It is also super close to Foodland and a short drive to Haleiwa. We also took a 5 minute drive to Turtle Bay for Mai Tai’s and water slides. On our last day we saw a whale from the veranda that was pretty cool! The only thing I would say was the bed kind of leaned to one side and was too soft for me, and the air mattress went soft after an hour or so, it could just be a personal preference, but the couch was comfortable. Also for some reason the water main was off for one of the days so we had no water for about 5 hours. I don’t think it was the owners fault just one of those island things. Over all our stay was great! We would totally stay at The Red House again next time we are on the North Shore!!

My husband, daughter and I just stayed here 2 weeks ago and it was great. We wish we could have moved in! It was close to everything, quiet, cozy and the view was amazing. We hope to stay here again on our next trip to the North Shore.

We spent two weeks in the little red house and had a wonderful vacation. Spent every night sitting out enjoying the unbelievable sunsets. Every morning we rode the cruisers up to Ted's Bakery for coffee and a treat. Very relaxing and a great location for all beach activities. The house had all the amenities we needed. I could stay there any time.Jerry

We spent a week here. And it was a great location for those who like a quiet beach for strolling on, and watching the big waves of winter roll in. The proximity to major surf spots makes it ideal for surfers, and it is centrally located for shopping at Foodland, the north shore produce stands, shrimp farms, and Haleiwa.

We just spent 3 weeks in the house and it has been just perfect! We rode the bikes everyday and didn't use our car much which was great. The house has a great location with lots of wonderful beaches close by. We've spent other Hawaiian vacation in other houses and can truly say that this house is definitely the best! Would love to come again! Isabel

We stayed for 1 week during the 2009 Triple Crown. So close to all the classic surf breaks that we rode the bikes everyday to watch the big wave surfers. Close enough to Honolulu to drop down for some shopping. Secluded spot on the beach with a great view. We have 2 small kids and they slept fine on the couch and blowup mattress. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

Upon arrival the house was very warm, air-conditioning was off. There are 3 oscillating fans to help move the air from the living room to the bedroom. If you can stand a few innocent spiders like camping, it was heaven. Great location, we used the bikes to go to Ted's bakery, watched the stars on the beach and used the gas grill. New mattress was comfortable. We'll remember the Red beach house for our next Oahu trip. Prop mgr was over to check on us right away. Thanks for a wonderful 23rd anniversary. Travis and Jamie

Our vacation at the Red House was nearly perfect. You can drive to nearby popular North Shore beaches, or simply enjoy the unnamed but stunningly beautiful beach right out front. You can walk or bike to Foodland for supplies, Shark's Cove Grill and Ted's for food, or drive to Haliewa in ten minutes for everything else. The location is ideal. The house is stocked with conveniences above and beyond expectations, and the sofa and mattress are new.

I wanted to write and thank you for the use and total enjoyment of your home. The "red house" was the perfect get-a-way for Heather and I. We loved the house and the unbelievable location. Our holiday would not have been more complete if we hadn't found this rental. We will definitely return to Hawaii and most definitely contact you for future rentals. Simply put...we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!! Thanks again, Greg and Heather

The little Red House was very well located and comfortable with everything you could need supplied. Mimi, the owner, also made the experience a no hassle one, as we find with most VRBO properties.

The little red house is the best location on the entire island. Great views of the ocean and sharks cove. we could see the whale migration and spinner dolphins right off the deck. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return again sometime in the near future.

Our entire Oahu experience was A-1. From booking the bungalow to arriving at our "home on the beach." Absolutely nothing beats walking out the door and onto the sand. Nothing's perfect, of course, but the "red house on the North Shore" is as close as it gets. We can't wait to come back.

Location, Location, Location....front row on the best beach on Oahu. Pipeline (famous surf spot) just a short swim north. Sharks cove (great snorkle and diving) just 200 yards south. This place is ultimate cool, the beach could not be better. Shoping is down the street about 1000 yards if you need to eat.
