My wife and I came to Cape Charles for a little get away and to celebrate my 50th birthday. We stumbled across this home rental at the last moment. The owner (Will) is a great guy and had the place ready for us in a couple days’ notice. The house is within a very short walk to the beach and the bay (100/150 feet). The home’s location offers great views of the beach and of the bay. (Especially from the second floor balcony or the third floor bedroom.) The home has all of the amenities’ one would need for a comfortable stay. The owners are very gracious, good people to deal with and make the home a pleasure to stay in. We will be back to stay again and hopefully soon. I would like to thank the owners for making my 50th birthday a joy to remember.Owner response: Great Couple !! Happy 50th Birthday Thom!!

Spent New Years Weekend, plenty of room for the extended family. Brought the dog, and house was well set-up to welcome and withstand a dog. The kids loved the loft. Only quibble, pretty chilly and not enough blankets. House isn't very winterized, and thermostat is set at 65 degrees, which is very environmentally responsible (and we do it at home, too) BUT bring your own blankets for a winter visit. I bet in Summer everything is 5 star!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thankyou for your comments, we had some blankets in all the bedrooms, but they were the lighter type not cold weather blankets. So we will correct that oversight. Again thankyou for mentioning that. Additionally, thank you for the sweet notes you left. i hope you'll come back and let me spoil you next winter!! W/K Smyth

My husband and I and my daughter and family stayed at the View for Christmas. It was wonderful! The house and location was perfect for us - spent time walking on the beach, shopping, having a libation at Kelleys' Pub, eating, sleeping and just enjoying the Holidays - th eview from the house was beautiful, especially the sunset.. The house was just perfect - plenty of room for everyone. The teenagers stayed upstairs in the loft room and that worked out great for everyone - they had their own space and so did we. I would highly recommend considering renting this property for anyone's furture vacation plans. Cape Charles is a town from the past and really interesting - takes you back in time. The owner was so pleasant and helpful. We had everything there that we needed (except, food of course!). We would definitely consider this house again in the future.. Thanks Smyth Family!Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thankyou Gail And Family for the generous and kind review. I'm glad your Christmas was an enjoyable and memorable one. I've enjoyed our conversations and was glad to hear you liked the house. I look forward to your return, HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

We stayed at The View the weekend of Oct 12-15th and had a wonderful time! All of the comforts of home and more. So many little thoughtful touches everywhere--beach toys for kids, even a gate for the stairs to keep the little ones safe--which I appreciated because I had forgotten ours! Close to the beach and walking distance to the charming downtown, really great location. We hope to go back soon!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thankyou for your kind words and for leaving the house in such great shape. Come back soon regards// Will and Kate

Plenty of room for guests. Good location-close to beach. Spent a lot of time enjoying the porch. We had different family memebers visit on different days alll enjoyed the house and location. Wanted to use the charcoal grill but couldn't find, also would suggest having an extension cord avalible for guest who rent golf carts to use.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm pleased the tenet enjoyed their stay. Left Gas grille for their use didn't realize they wanted both grilles!! Sorry!! Thank you for the helpful suggestion. Thankyou for the review, please come back!! regards// Will and Kate

We arrived in a downpour late Friday evening, found the key but the person before had left the front door double locked, thankfully the side was single locked and to go inside was heaven after 3 hours of driving rain. The layout is beautiful yet set up to accommodate wet people and dogs without extreme panic of doing harm. When dry it was fun to discover thoughtful touches like sea/Chesapeake related books among a nice collection tucked in shelves and drawers, along with cards, Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. In the daylight it's even better. We arranged kayaks for the week and thoroughly enjoyed them after getting past concerns regarding white caps following the storm; David with SE Expeditions was very patient and assured us the water is at most 3-4 feet deep very far out and mostly calm. The porch is great for watching a multitude of fireflies and nesting birds. We loved walking the dogs on the beach before 9 am and walking downtown after. Initially it seemed very small, but there were a few places we didn't explore after a week. The owner was kind enough to accommodate a small date shift that allowed us to enjoy a tall ship ride our last night. Phenomenal! It was fun to be a part of the anticipation that town businesses were sensing during the week before the OpSail 2012 event. They seemed to really enjoy the festivities when the weekend came. The owner is very thoughtful and available, there will always be a little thing or another that happens, had we called him for the little things, I'm sure he would have been helpful, but they were really out of his control. The propane tank for the grill was empty, there is no gauge on them so there is no way he would have known; the internet cut out for a few days, that happens anywhere, he has all of the numbers posted inside a cabinet so we could call and adjust accordingly. Half the fun on a trip is to adapt and create new experiences out of what is available in a different place! Enough cookware, etc. was provided in the kitchen that we could work with it, and there were random items, like vegetable oil that someone else probably left behind that came in very handy - we tried to leave a few too. Everywhere in the house was spacious and well arranged, making our stay very pleasant and comfortable! Thank you Cape Charles and Bill for a lovely and refreshing vacation! PS: There is a Food Lion very nearby on Rt. 13. The local residents are very good about recommending restaurants too.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thankyou for your comments and thankyou for the neat and clean way you left the house. I hope you'll come back, I spoke with the mayor and she commented on what a nice family you have. Thanks again and please come back!! Will and Kate!!

Had a great time! The house was as listed, clean, really nice, comfortable & a good arrangement for a family reunion. We had a total of 13 come to the house, but only a maximum of 9 spent the night. One couple brought their own airbed. Plenty of space. Very close to the beach, easy walking distance, could be viewed from the kitchen & upper floors. The homeowner was helpful & very nice. A storm hit (high winds, heavy rain) but no problem with that, in fact we were surprised you couldn't hear the storm from inside. We cooked a lot. Kitchen was suitable. Had mostly everything we needed. A crock pot would have been nice. All enjoyed the stay. Wish we could have stayed longer!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for what seems like a great visit. The tenants had a day and a half of beautiful weather but the last 2 days were rainy and cool. The weather this season has been unpredictable. It sounds like I need a "Crock Pot". I wish I would have known that before your arrival. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at the VIEW, I enjoyed talking with you and I hope you'll come back. I'm getting the Crockpot!! regards, Will and Kate.

We stayed off season the first week in November of 2011. We had a wonderful quilting retreat. The house and owner could not have been any better. The owner even left flowers on the table for our arrival and was readily available when the town's cable went off. If you stay here, we highly reccomend the truck stop for dining. Sounds crazy, but the food is wonderful.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: The Quilters were a great group and I look forward to seeing them again. Thanks for choosing the VIEW!! Regards/ Will and Kate

Great location and very quiet. Lots of space for the entire family and everything was as advertised. Close access to the beach and the house was in great shape. I gave it a three star rating because the carpets were not very clean and we had two small children. There was quite a bit of dog hair on the steps as well. I ended up vacuuming the carpets shortly after we unpacked.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thankyou for your comments in your review. I'm happy the reviewer enjoyed the house and their stay in Cape Charles. We take great pride in the cleanliness and comfortability which we maintain our house, and realize how important it is to the success of our property. We're sorry for the dirt on the carpet and the dog hair on the steps. We've hired a new cleaning company and will work to improve their standards to meet those of our customers. We look forward to earning our customers business in the future. regards/ Will
