Clean, large, very isolated.
Clean, large, very isolated.
Firstly it's just too isolated - taxis refuse to go up the hill as it is too potholed (more like bomb struck) and sadly taxis are the only way (unless you hire a car). There was no taxi info in the villa on arrival, nor manager to give us the keys, but after waiting for him he gave us the no. of George who was very nice but only came once, despite many calls so not reliable. Taxis to/from Albena/Golden Sands are min. 30-80lev (they try & rip you off every time). And the taxi drivers are dangerous - overtaking on blind corners/solid white lines and quite frankly all over the place. The shop halfway down the hill no longer exists so it's a long walk for resources at the bottom of the hill. A welcome pack of two big bottles of beer, crisps, bread and 5 litre? water bottle was there pon arrival. The villa itself is big and clean, the pool was clean and 'reasonable' in size. The basketball hoop was missing and the ball deflated. The mini golf needs a bit of retouching and the whole 'grounds' of the villa are concrete, so beware kids! There's a shower room on each floor - ground floor by the pool room, the en-suite bedroom, one for the next two bedrooms, and one for the three rooms at the top. The beds were firm and comfy. One balcony per floor is shared by two bedrooms. The view is nice, but certainly not stunning - the Amalfi coast or Santorini is stunning, this is just ok. The villa area is very quiet so you'll certainly sleep well. The beaches at Albena & Golden Sands are very nice, and the sea clean and shallow. Albena as a resort is, hmmm, let's say a tacky family resort - cabaret keyboard music with the singer that never made it at every restaurant & food is average at best. Grilled lamb & fries is as good as it gets & that's £15! Golden Sands is the better resort by a mile and personally I'd stay there, it's not like Benidorm but it's certainly no Riviera! The Casino staff were really friendly and it's free drinks if you're playing ;) Overall if you can get flights under £150, want a very quiet though very basic holiday, then this could fit the bill. But being stuck here for a week would give me cabin fever & that's where the problems start - how to get out & where to go! I would recommend that an extensive welcome pack is made giving detailed information, with pics, on places to go, how to get there, what to be wary of (taxis), contact details of 'approved' taxis, maps of local bus stops, expected prices etc. ps. weather was good ;-)

Owner response: Thank you for your review. We are sorry you found the villa too isolated but we do say car hire is recommended. We can only say there was a misunderstanding with your time of arrival at the villa and that is why the manager was not there to meet you and apologise for this. This is meant to be a laid back relaxing holiday villa, but at the same time not too far from shops, bars and restaurants. If you like to be in the centre and really close to the bars and lively night life like in Golden Sands then a villa holiday is maybe not right for you. We hope you still enjoyed your stay and we will definately take your comments on board, we appreciate customer feedback. Many thanks, Mark and Angela
The eleven of us had a lovely time. The villa was a perfect size with beautiful views and the pool was a lot larger than appears in the photos which was a nice surprise. All beds were comfortable with all the bedding and towels we needed. The outside table space was brilliant for evening barbecues and dinners. We very much enjoyed the pool table and bar room which contained excellent quality speakers that we took full advance of. It is situated in a lovely unspoilt area that was very peaceful and relaxing. The only issue with location was the walk back from the local shop which was not as easy as implied - heavy shopping up a steep hill in the heat. Car hire would definitely be ideal if possible however in our case we managed perfectly just using the friendly and very affordable recommended taxis. Nights out in Golden Sands were just what we were looking for with very cheap drinks and Varna was also a lovely place to visit. We highly recommend an award winning cocktail bar called Pench. Restaurants in Balchik on the seafront were not only cheap but served great food with equally great staff. The water sports at Albena beach were again very enjoyable and affordable. Our only negative points about the villa were the lack of a promised welcome pack, working dishwasher and regularly cleaned pool. However these factors did not at all spoil our stay. We had a brilliant time and would not only recommend it, we would stay again.

Owner response: Thank you for your review, customer feedback is very important to us. Unfortunatley I can only apologise for the missing welcome pack and the pool cleaning, this should have been included. And I will check why the dishwasher wasn't working. Really pleased you enjoyed your holiday and look forward to hearing from you again. We have a new management company looking after our villa now so I think the missing welcome pack and pool cleaning is a misunderstanding between myself and our new villa manager. I will rectify these problems.
The village was spacious, clean and easily accommodated our family of 7. It is situated up a very steep hill and has magnificent views. We were glad we hired a car for the week, although a taxi to Golden Sands, where all the busy nightlife, bars and restaurants are, only costs 30 levs. Make sure you use Jivko’s BIG Taxi – Jivko is an absolute legend and has lots of useful local knowledge. Beer and food from the local shops is very cheap – great for having a barbeque on the patio in the evening. We loved the crazy golf and spent many hours ‘cannonballing’ the villa’s pool! If we had any criticism of the villa it would be considering the villa sleeps 14 people there was a definite shortage of cups, plates and cooking utensils. The welcome pack was lovely; biscuits, milk, bread, butter, beer and crisps but we would have also welcomed toilet roll and soap after our long journey especially as we arrived at the villa in the middle of the night! There is a basketball net but no basketball and we couldn’t find any shops that sold one. The poolroom would be brilliant if there was room to take a shot but it’s a bit of a tight squeeze! Only two of the bedrooms have balconies, not 5 as printed in the description. However, none of these things spoiled our holiday. We spent a day in nearby Albena trying out the water sports; Parasailing, banana boating, The Big Minge, Ringo’s etc and one day we went on a boat trip to Balchik to see the Botanical Gardens. It was nice to have a ride out to nearby towns etc but it was lovely to get back each evening to our secluded villa. All in all we’ve had a wonderful weeklong holiday.

Relaxing getaway villa
Relaxing getaway villa
This villa is large and well supplied with everything you need (except soap for kitchen, bath and shower). There is lots to do if you want to stay right here, and, if you have a car, to go on outings to other sites. We had 2 families, 10 people total, our kids being aged 10-20. There was plenty to do and enjoy at the villa. The pool is small, but decent. The pool table, basketball, and little mini-golf gave them things to do. We relaxed in lounge chairs on the deck, reading and talking, and made dinner here a few nights, playing games or watching movies in the evening. Other nights we went to nearby Albena resort (10 min by car) for dinner and mini-golf or just wandering the souvenir booths and looking around. If you are looking to be right in the middle of a busy vacation area with lots to do right outside your door, this villa may not be the place for you. You have to walk 20 minutes down the long hill to the beach (its a hard walk back up), or drive to the Albena resort. Varna is a half hour or so away by car, where we went to the dolphin show and visited the ruins of the Roman Baths (hard to find but worth it if you like that stuff like we do). After a day there, we were happy to get back out of busy Varna to our getaway villa again. At first, I thought I might not like being in an isolated quiet place- I usually like the activity of a touristy area- but we all ended up very glad to have this private place. It's situated on top of a large hill and the view is beautiful. There are just locals around you, and probably some other rentals. We didn't see many people in June. There are a couple small shops you can walk to for bread and such, and a grocery store about 5 minutes away by car. Overall, I'd highly recommend it for families, groups of friends or gatherings where you enjoy being away from the crowds, and like to go by car to dinner or activities but have your quiet place to come home to. There was enough here to enjoy just spending a whole day relaxing and then cooking dinner out on the patio. There are things to do close enough if you have a car. It was a clean and comfortable place as described, just more out of the way than some people want.

as a group of 14 male students, the villa was an absolute haven. with a brilliant pool, pool table, basket ball, crazy golf, a mini bar, and one of the best veiws i have ever seen lkking over albena where you can get amazing cocktails for the equivelent of about £2. i would definatly recomend the villa to any group of guys, stag dos etc as it has everything you could want from a lads holiday...everything above and just a quick taxi ride to albena for 20levs for 4 of you (MAKE SURE YOU USE "RUMEN"...never more than 10 minutes and always fair on the price..and an absolute ledge!)..where there are more than enough clubs bars resaurants etc...very very good villa and location and beer from the shop 2 minutes away costs about 80p for 2 litres!
