The Maine Stay Suite is very kid and toddler friendly... with enclosed spacious deck and fenced beach yard with 12 foot wading pool. High chair, Pak N Play crib, video baby monitor and car seat available. Check out the full list of amenities.

Cabana Suite with king beds, double futon,
2 baths, laundry, full kitchen, large deck, porch and patio, right on the beach:
$1295/week (7 nights) (Jun 1 - Oct 31, summer season), 3 night minimum. ($185 per night)
$1595/week (7 nights) (Nov 1 - Dec 14, high season - fall), 3 night minimum. ($228 per night)
$1895/week (7 nights) (Dec 15 - Jan 15, holiday season), 3 night minimum. ($271 per night)
$1595/week (7 nights) (Jan 16 - May 31, high season - spring), 3 night minimum. ($228 per night)

The cabana suite is located on the beautiful sandy shore of the Placencia peninsula…just steps from the Caribbean shore… your beach faces east toward a stunning sunrise each morning. There is a 100 foot lighted pier (see photos) and palapa just steps from your deck.

Placencia has the reputation for the best beaches in Belize... right in your front yard! Toddlers, kids and adults all love it. Near our very swimmable 400 foot sandy beach, there is a beautiful stand of coral about 150 yards from our pier. Swim, snorkel and kayak right from the Cabanas. Of course, there is also world class snorkeling, diving and fishing along the nearby barrier reef... which is not to be missed.

Traveling is easy: Belize City is only two hours from Miami and Houston. Our cabanas are only three miles from Placencia airport, which is only a thirty minute flight from Belize City via Tropic Air or Maya Island Air. From the US: Continental, American, US Airways, Delta and TACA fly in to Belize City.

Many guests rent a vehicle at Belize International Airport and drive to Belmopan and then down the Hummingbird Highway through the Maya Mountains to Placencia. It is just a stunning drive. It is also a great way to travel Belize.

"Passing through jungle and citrus orchard as it skirts the northern edges of the Maya Mountain range, Belize’s Hummingbird Highway offers a near constant procession of postcard-perfect vistas. There are also plenty of reasons to stop along the way, chief among these being a visit to Cave’s Branch for cave tubing and St Herman’s Cave, where, with a guide, you can explore its huge caverns and classic Maya ceremonial chambers containing calcified skeletons and artifacts. There’s also the Blue Hole, a 25ft-deep sapphire-blue swimming hole inside a 328ft-wide cenote that was formed when the roof caved in on one of the Sibun River’s underground tributaries."

There are many available restaurants, complete tour services, massage centers, and spa offerings.

We will meet you when you arrive at The Maine Stay, whether you choose to rent a vehicle in Belize City and drive down, or if you fly, we will meet you at the Placencia Airport. Renting a vehicle in Belize City gives you a lot of flexibility, depending on your plans. Do you want to do Mayan Ruins, the Jaguar Preserve, Cave tubing, and other things? You can save money and do some or all of these yourself in your rental vehicle.

Tour can also arranged with local tour operators. Local taxis are readily available. Tours will pick you up at your Cabana Suite, our ocean front pier or at our lagoon Marina. There are many delightful shops with local arts and crafts. Included on the property is a 100 foot lighted pier (see photos) and palapa just steps from the cabanas with easy access to great snorkeling and night water viewing of the reef fish, crabs, rays, and schools of glowing tropical fish.

Other activities in the area:
Snorkeling as well as world class fly-fishing and scuba diving on the second longest barrier reef in the world. Spelunking. Fishing. Mayan ruins. Rain forest hikes.

You'll be delighted by:
The spectacular beaches. The sunrise and sunset. The herons in the
morning, the hummingbirds, the lush gardens and flowers, the fresh
seafood, the Maya Mountains, the friendly people... and so much more.

Getting all 11 of our family members (3 generations) together at the same time in the same place is a herculean challange, so you REALLY want it to be the BEST place with the BEST cultural and physical activities close by... we found all of this and more at the Maine Stay. We rented their two double cabanas with our own beautiful private sandy beach 60 feet from the Carribean, well-stocked kitchens in each cabana, comfy beds, lovely tropical surroundings complete with lounge chairs, picnic tables, hammocks, laundry facilities in each, clean, private, security on premises, bikes and kayaks, a private pier...it was perfect! Plenty of cultural and physical activities close by for those with the explorer's gene; and stunning tropical tranquility when you just want to relax. Hosts Drew and Karen Travers were marvelous, advising us on the best restaurants, booking snorkeling excursions to the Cayes and boat trip on the Monkey River, etc. They had thought of every comfort and convenience (including stocking "starter" groceries for our arrival) to make the cabanas absolutely the greatest place we could possibly dream of finding for our large family group. Go!!!

The Maine Stay offers superb accommodations and hospitality for vacationing in Placencia, Belize. The owners, Drew and Karen, ensure that your vacation needs are met as far as living quarters, activities, and optional staff assistance. This was our first vacation to this area and we plan to travel there again as well as stay at The Maine Stay. The cabannas are located near the edge of the beach which allows for very pleasant breezy and cool nights. The people are very friendly and there are a lot of wonderful activities in driving distance if you choose. In summation, The Maine Stay is an excellent place to stay and vacation. In a word . . . EXCELLENT!

Our first experience at the Maine Stay was seven years ago. Freddi & I came down with my daughter and her husband. We have stayed with Drew & Karen about five times since. Wonderful accomodations, great location, every ammenity you need on vacation. We've recommended the Maine Stay to several friends, all have come back with 'rave' reviews. We were emmersed in the culture with Drew & Karen's encouragement. We now are building our own home not far from them. You have to come down, you have to try the Maine Stay....you won't want to go home!

The grounds are well kept and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Drew and Karen are great hosts and full of info on where to go and what to see. We recommend The Maine Stay to couples and families.

The dogs that came around our cabana (Charlie and Daisy) were adorable. We enjoyed them barking and letting us know when someone was walking up and they were a lot of company when we were doing things outside. Overall, I thought the property was great and can't wait to come back.

We had a fabulous time here. We felt very safe - the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The cabana was very clean and well equipped. We were able to swim, snorkel, and fish easily, with the water being safe for the kids to navigate around on their own. There are great places to ride the bikes. The town of placencia was very friendly and safe as well and the meals we had were all great. This was a really great vacation!

Two couples, friends for over 28 years, finally took our dream vacation trip celebrating our life together and retirement for all of us. We were not disappointed. What you see in these pictures is what you get. Only drawback was some pesty biting no-seums that really had a feast on my Polynesian-blooded husband. The rest of us faired quite well. Some locals told us to eat a lot of garlic and take vitamin B6 & B12 to help. Who knew? Unfortunately, we decided to sleep with the windows open (and yes there are screens) while our friends used the a/c in their unit at night - they did better than we did on that note. If you are doing a day trip to Punta Gorda, just 5 miles north of PG, follow a single-vehicle dirt road to Belcampo Hotel & Restaurant. A 2 mile journey up that road takes you to the top of the mountain with a fabulous resort that looks something like out of "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous". A little pricy for lunch, but worth the views and the free tram ride down to the river below through the jungle - kind of like an "old farts" zip line!! We traveled a lot in our 4-wheel vehicle to really get a feel for the country and its people. BEWARE of the SPEED HUMPS while approaching villages. While most of them are clearly marked, a few are not, and if you are not at almost a complete stop when you cross over one, you will go flying through the air, not to mention possible tire damage. You will see a lot of tire repair shops in major villages. Be sure the vehicle you rent has a full-size spare! Get to know the local fisherman coming by the cabanas. They can sell you fresh fish if you can't catch them yourselves, or even some fresh caught lobster - now that's a yummy meal! Yes, there are beach dogs, but I felt so safe with them around. They litteraly "adopted" us since we paid them so mucgh attention. I even went for early morning strolls on the beach by myself (which I NEVER do in a foreign country) and I felt perfectly safe with the dogs tagging along with me. If you don't want them around, don't encourage them. The staff was very friendly and attended to all our needs. We hope to return sometime to explore this beautiful area much more and would like to return to the Maine Stay possibly in their single unit. The monkey river tour and day a Laughing Bird Caye were our highlight tours. Don't miss them! Plenty of great places to eat all along the peninsula. You won't be disappointed in the food & drinks.

We spent a week at the Maine Stay and it was wonderful. It is completely private, we never saw the owners or the other guest in the other cabana's and only saw the staff when they were raking the seaweed back into the sea or hanging the hammocks. The beds were a bit hard and the outdoor furniture is mostly beds for the stray dogs that hang around but the location is perfect and the beach is wonderful. Bring bug spray with at least 50% deet because the bugs will eat you alive.

First of all, the pictures are everything you see and more. The cabanas are very comfortable and conveniently located to lots of sightseeing areas. We snorkeled in front of our beach and found starfish and coral. Drew and Karen are great hosts and helped coordinate our fishing trip with Kevin in the village (this is a must-do). We bought fresh lobster right off the beach from the locals and grilled it that evening with our fresh fish. We ate well! You can't beat having morning brewed coffee while watching the beautiful sunrises at the pier house and spotting a manatee or two. This is the place to go if you don't want to be bothered by too many tourists and spend time with the locals and just relax!

Two of us just spent a totally relaxing week at The Maine Stay in Seine Bight, Belize. The property was just as the descriptions and photos described. Drew and Karen, the owners, were extremely helpful but never intrusive. They had our grocery order on the counter when we arrived. Winston at JAGZ Auto Rental was very reliable and reasonable. Maya Airlines flew us to/from Belize City and Placencia. It was a fast flight to get to Placencia where Drew met us at the airport. I spent a week in Seine Bight sixteen years ago and I was delighted to see that not much had changed. Here are some of our favorite memories: *Getting reacquainted with Lola, the artist. She was as friendly as ever and had moved to her new place after a hurricane destroyed her previous location. *Buying fresh lobster from a man in a canoe right on the beach. Best meal ever! *Feeding Lady, the resident dog. She will eat just about anything but definitely prefers Alpo Prime Cuts dog food. *Eating at the Maya Hotel Bistro where the coconut shrimp was our favorite. Their Happy Hour is excellent. *Fishing on the pier and catching a fish with a licorice jelly-belly - much to the amusement of the few others nearby. *Discovering the chocolate factory and eating delicious dark, dark chocolate. *Eating breakfast at Dawn's in Placencia. The breakfast sandwich was huge and delicious. *Enjoying the atmosphere of Omar's in Placencia. The special of the day was excellent. *Eating fresh coconut macaroons from Brenda near the pier. As you can see from the above information, we spent our time eating, drinking, relaxing and actually doing nothing! What a fabulous place!

Owner response: One of the absolute delights about our vacation rental is seeing our guests so enjoying what our place and the Placencia Peninsula has to offer.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2004

About the owner: In the spring of 2001, I spent 4 months on sabbatical leave working as a volunteer in a clinic in Punta Gorda, Belize. I had been to Belize very briefly in 1985, on my way to do relief work in El Salvador after a big earthquake. Since then I had always wanted to go back to Belize and really explore it... and this was the perfect opportunity. During my 4 months working in the Hillside Clinic in Punta Gorda, I had weekends free to travel around and check out this small Central American country. Although we had no intention of doing ANYTHING of the sort, we ended up buying property on the Placencia Peninsula. For 3 years, we came down to our beach every few months and stayed in Cabanas we had built. These cabanas soon took on a "life of their own," and we started renting them out to friends & co-workers. So, The Maine Stay was born and continues to delight us and our guests. The Placencia Peninsula has continued to build infrastructure and amenities. Paving of the road between The Maine Stay and Placencia Village is now complete. I officially "retired" mid 2004 and have been here full time since. Karen came down full time late in 2004 and although retired from full-time work, continues her part-time consulting in health care. The wonders of high speed internet communications! The lagoon land (that happened to come along with the purchase of our 400 feet of beach front) has become Kokomo... our 7 acre gated community with 28 lots, marina and canal. These are selling well and new construction is ongoing. The beach cabanas "almost" take care of themselves, but it has been a very large expenditure in energy, time and money to get the Kokomo community developed. We just thought we were "retired!"

Why the Owner Chose Seine Bight:
Although life-changing and initially a challenge, moving to Belize has been one of the best decisions that Karen and I have made in our lives together. Living on the Placencia Peninsula of Belize is the stuff that peoples dreams are made of... especially if you like tropical ocean breezes, great beaches, superb snorkeling and diving and some of the best fishing in the western hemisphere. "As one of the last unspoiled places on earth, Belize offers travelers the richly rewarding authenticity they seek in a Caribbean getaway. Just a two-hour flight from the U.S., this tropical paradise is nestled between Mexico to the north and Guatemala to the west and south. For generations, the English-speaking people of Belize have demonstrated a commitment to preserving the country’s unique charms. Belize offers a land rich in natural beauty and steep in the history and culture of its Maya past. Renowned for having the second largest barrier reef in the world, Belize’s pristine waters, exotic marine and wildlife, lush unspoiled landscapes and superb diving truly make it Mother Nature’s Best Kept Secret."

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Placencia is a 17 mile long peninsula half way down the coast of Belize. It is known for the best beaches in Belize, diving around the nearby barrier reef, snorkeling on the beaches and Cayes, whale shark and manatee encounters, world class fly-fishing, and regular "rod and reel" ocean fishing, access to great Mayan Ruin tours, the fabulous hiking, tubing and waterfalls at the Jaguar Preserve where you will also hear and may see howler monkeys. Another popular day trip is Monkey River. The central location of the peninsula is key to it's popularity. Although "laid back," Placencia has much to offer. There are many good places to enjoy restaurants and great food on the peninsula, from first class resorts, to funky beach bars. There are lots of restaurants and shops both in Placencia Village and elsewhere along the peninsula. All of these are easy to get to either by taxi, your own rental vehicle or our complimentary bicycles. You'll find tons of stuff to do. In fact it is usually hard for our guests to cram everything they want to do in a week! If you can mage it... schedule 9 or 10 days. All of our guests wish they had!
