Large critter in the room!

When we had emailed you about the listing we were informed by email that the studio condos were sold out for our dates, but that there was access to other owner’s condos (in the same resort), and that the units are set up the same but are decorated differently. The condo unit we were taken to when we arrived was nothing like the pictures we viewed online. What we were expecting was a separated bedroom, living room, kitchen and laundry facilities and what we got was one room that had a bed, couch, table and kitchenette in it and with laundry facilities being a communal affair costing close to $6 to wash and dry. In order to pull out the couch, we had to move the bedside tables and the bed. The couch end still touched the bed. This may be what caused our next problem. We came back to the room after our first day out & while getting ready for bed, my daughter noticed some movement out of the corner of her eye. It was a HUGE spider on the wall. (She is terrified of spiders and ran from the room.) We called the front desk to ask for maintenance to be sent up to get rid of it, which they said would be done. This was not a spider that I could easily kill, as it was as large as my hand and up near the ceiling of the room….15 minutes later, we were still waiting. By this time, the spider had made a lap around the room, descended to the floor and went back up to the top of the ceiling. After multiple calls to the front desk, the last of which no one answered……one of us stayed to keep track of the spider and 2 went down to the desk to find out where maintenance was and to demand a new room, as none of us would be able to sleep in that room. Come to find out … he went to the wrong building. By the time he finally got to the room, the spider had disappeared behind the curtains….to which he made a half-hearted effort to find the “nasty spider that was scaring us poor women”….please note here…he DID NOT find the spider. They lied to the people across the hall, who saw something was going on and asked us about it, that they “got it”. Both the front desk person and the maintenance guy treated us insultingly……..like because we were women, we couldn’t kill one “little” spider and were making too much out of this incident. In the time it took for maintenance to respond, we took several pictures of the VERY LARGE spider. We wanted to post one of those very clear pictures that we took of the spider however the format on this website doesn’t allow pictures, so we coul
Owner response:We truly regret that there was a spider in this room and that it scared the guest. This was the first time that we have heard of this in the 7 years that we have owned. The guest was moved to a new room shortly after the encounter and they were offered a full refund for that day’s stay, which they refused because they wanted their entire stay of 4 nights refunded and threatened to post a bad review if it wasn’t. It is always our hope that all guests will check in and say Wow! This is a really nice place and great location for the price. We have many guests that come back every year and stay 2-3 months at a time because they love staying here and know that they are getting a great value. In reference to the guest not getting the type of room they were expecting: We state on VRBO and in the email response that we use to respond to all rental inquiries that the condo is a studio. Nowhere do we state that we are renting a one bedroom, that has a separate kitchen, a separate living room, and its own laundry room. We specifically state in the initial email and also in the confirmation letter that is sent to each guest after they reserve the studio that “there are laundry facilities located on the 3rd & 4th floors of each building. Bring your own quarters.” In reference to the guest having to move a table to pull out the sofa bed: Again, this is a studio. There is a coffee table in front of the sofa, it must be moved out of the way in order to open the sofa bed. As far as the pulled out sofa bed touching the bed, this is not normally the case, there is plenty of room for it to be pulled out. (The room is 440 sq ft.) It could have been moved too close during cleaning. The bed frame is the type with wheels, so that it can be easily moved for vacuuming and convenience. In reference to the size of the spider: Unless the spider more than doubled in size after the guest sent me the picture then this is a bit of an exaggeration, although it was bigger than the spiders that I normally see in my house up North. This guest was braver than I would have been getting on a chair 8 ft up taking an eye to eye picture of it. Again, we regret that this guest had this experience, but felt that a full refund of that day’s stay was proper for their inconvenience. We did not feel that refunding their entire stay of 4 nights was warranted with their threat of posting a bad review.

We were very satisfied with this rental. The suite was very clean and neat. It was supplied with everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and took care of anything we requested. Price was a good value. There wasnt much of a view from the balcony but we were not in the room very often but at the theme parks which are very easy to get to from The Enclave. Would stay there again.
