- Wheel chair accessible:No
Enjoy an easy inexpensive weekend getaway in this rustic mountain cabin just an hour and a half from LA, halfway between the I-5 at the Grapevine and Santa Maria on the coast. Located on a cul-de-sac in Pine Mountain Club, a private community in the Los Padres National Forest. 35 minutes from Pyramid Lake and 45 minutes from Magic Mountain.
Available for rent any time. $135/night, 2 night minimum, 3 night minimum on holiday weekends. 3rd night free with rentals Monday through Thursday, except during holiday weeks. Prices may be slightly higher over the holidays.
All knotty pine interior with lodge-like furnishings. Two large bedrooms (one with queen bed, one with full bed and a twin bed); 2 extra twin mattresses in walk-in closet; portable crib and high chair; one bathroom; big stone fireplace; large deck overlooking wooded area with small creek. Large well-equipped kitchen. Beautiful stained glass window in living room with scene of local hills. Three TVs; DVD, VCR and laser disc players with over 200 movies, plus books, board games and puzzles. Dual-pane windows for comfort summer and winter. High speed wifi internet connection.
Rental includes access to beautiful mountain golf course; swimming pool in summer months; stable with trail rides; catch-and-release fishing in Fern Lake; tennis courts; clubhouse with video game room, restaurant, free wifi and lounge with live music on weekends. Village business area has restaurants, market, hardware store, gift shops, internet cafe plus seasonal festivals and fairs. Hiking, sledding and cross country skiing on Mount Pinos (8800') 25 minutes away. And just across the street from the cabin is a lovely wooded area with pathways leading to the village and rustic tables under the trees - an easy woodsy walk without getting in the car, especially nice for little kids.
In the winter I provide sleds, and you are welcome to use the extra boots and gloves for adults and kids that I keep at the cabin.
This is a HOUSEKEEPING CABIN - the rates are low because guests must provide their own sheets, towels and firewood and must clean the cabin in readiness for the next guests before leaving. Cleaning supplies are provided; cleaning service and/or linens can be provided at an additional cost. There is no smoking in the cabin. Refundable $200 cleaning/security deposit required to hold reservation; deposit will be returned in full once the cabin has been checked. Payment can be made via cashier's check, personal check (if in time to clear before rental date) or Paypal. If paying by Paypal (using your credit card or bank link) add 3% to cover Paypal fee.
Roads are very well maintained by Pine Mountain Club but weather can change quickly in the mountains so be prepared with 4-wheel drive or chains in winter. There is as yet no cell phone service in the area and the phone is blocked for outgoing long distance, so I provide a phone card to make long distance calls (best to bring your own card, too, just in case).

We had another wonderful weekend in your home-away-from-home. There was no snow around the cabin but plenty on Mt. Pinos. Thanks again for sharing this sanctuary with all of us. We needed it after the college tours and application process with our oldest daughter. We LOVED the wifi you added since our visit last year - our teens enjoyed their internet access. We're so happy that we found this wonderful cabin hideaway. You've been so nice and easy to communicate with over the years - you're like a friend now. Thanks again for everything!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

...we had such a great time! We had lots of snow and the kids got to play and build a snowman. The cabin was very cozy and well stocked. We watched a couple of movies from your large movie selection. We used the sleds that you have there to slide down the slope near the cabin. My wife baked a birthday cake for me in the cabin oven and we celebrated my birthday with the kids. I have a 7 year old boy and a 3 year old twin girls who got to see and play in the snow for the first time. They had a blast. Again thank you and hope we can stay at your cabin in the near future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

...at your perfect cabin. Forgot our turkey serving tray at home - but of course you had one here! We saw such beautiful birds on the back deck, as usual - steller's Jays and acorn woodpeckers. Didn't get to see any deer this time but last time we saw a doe. Everyone had much-needed exercise in the Enchanted Forest - we are now experts on walking into town and kids and doggies love the walk all the way to the park. Went to game room just in time to find out about Tree Lighting - was so awesome, we all enjoyed hot cocoa and cookies and sang Christmas carols around the tree. Saturday we went to the Arts and Crafts Show. Now we are sorry to leave today but can't wait to come back and perhaps see some snow and go sledding. Thank you again so much for sharing your homey cabin with our grateful family!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

...for the use of your place; what a tremendous weekend. A little snow and a little cool weather, but the time spent up there was certainly not dampened. When I was up there several weeks ago I had a feeling about your place that made it feel more at home than in a cabin. I realized what it was Friday evening sitting in front of the fireplace. My daughter and I were talking and I noticed in the bookcase a photo album. Browsing through the album I saw many happy moments that were spent up there over the years, it was truly incredible.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We felt well cared for and we hope to indulge upon it as soon as possible. We fell in love with your hideaway and PMC in general. Your cabin is more than we had imagined. A home rather than a house. It was great to enjoy the thoughtful decor and comfortable surroundings, we really needed it. Where else can you stand in one spot and see hawks, quail, jays, squirrels, sunrises, sunsets and stars in abundance? All from that amazing deck.Did you find this review helpful? ...for the opportunity to stay at your cabin. The accommodations were wonderful, and the location was close to the village, but still very quiet. Thank you again, and I hope you will let me use your place again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1985
About the owner: I retired from Disney Studios in 2007. Now I work part-time as a paralegal and I like to travel - I do home exchanges all over the world. I grew up in upstate NY so I love coming to the mountains for the change of seasons and the snow.
Why the Owner Chose Pine Mountain Club:
My ex-husband and I bought this cabin in 1985. We wanted a retreat where he could golf and I could x-country ski and we could enjoy nature with our family. We had thought of looking in Big Bear, east of LA, but a friend told us about Pine Mountain Club which is so much closer and quieter. It's never crowded, even on holidays, and has a real small town feel, plus it's only 90 minutes from my home in Pasadena.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
When I'm in my cabin I feel like I'm in another world. It's absolutely quiet on the cul-de-sac. You can't see other cabins from the back deck which looks out onto green space with birds, squirrels and the occasional deer. The interior is all knotty pine, even the ceilings, and there's a big stone fireplace. Starting right across from the cabin a neighbor has built a series of rock-lined paths through the woods, with little tables and seats made from tree stumps; it's just a 10 minute walk to the village through the 'enchanted forest.' I love to hike and x-country ski on Mt. Pinos, and enjoy the live music, free wifi, swimming and tennis at the clubhouse. For home entertainment, I have accumulated a library of over 200 movies on dvd, laser disc and tape. I enjoy sharing my cabin with guests and I use it myself as often as I can; a weekend at the cabin feels like a real vacation.
