Accommodations: Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)
Renovated Tall Timbers waterfront community cottage. Standing in front of 200 acres of timber preserve, the woodland area is rich with birds and other wildlife. Lovely and comfortable, the cottage is equipped as a year-round retreat. We have a new well, central air and heat, large bay window and views of the river and woodland. There is an easement from the cottage to the bulkhead accross the street which offeres the finest sunsets available. Access to the private sandy beach and public boat ramp is a short walk. Slips are usually available at the marina where you can also find a sandwich, or nice dinner and on occasion a little nightlife.
Everything in Tall Timbers Cottage is new including the carpets, appliances, and paint. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes and all the standard culinary equipment. You will have most of the conveniences of home and will find a high speed Internet connection, cable TV, and telephone. There is a washer/dryer, bike, ironing board, CD and DVD players, barbecue, and both flower and herb gardens. Two Sets of linens are provided for each of the two queen beds, and the Double.
Horseshoes are at the house along with a few games and puzzles. Wildlife viewing is a constant treat, and horses can be rented nearby. Tall Timbers is where Cedar Cove and Herring Creek meet the Potomac River and not far from the St. Mary's and St. George's Rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. There is big water for boating and sailing, but also creeks and estuaries for canoes, and kayaks. It is not unusual to see a swimming deer or muskrat, or a dozen blue herons or turtles. Fishing and crabbing is fabulous.
Most visitors are not able to complete the sight seeing in a single trip. If the area is new to you, Saint Mary's County is filled with museums and historical sites such as Historic St. Mary’s City with a replica pf the 1633 "dove" at dock. The Piney Point Light House and beach is a great place for a picnic or to take a look at the site of the old "Summer White House;" Maryland's first underwater park, the German U-boat was sunk just off shore during target practice. The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum (PAX), and the Point Lookout State Park and Civil War Museum are not far away. The Sotterley Plantation, St. Anne's Gardens or St. Clement's Island-Potomac River Museum and the Calvert Maritime Museum are also worth the trip. You can also find great local crafts at the old mill, or visit the little red schoolhouse, or the Drayden Afro-American school house
