La Maison de la Vieille Vigne is a fully restored winemaker's cottage nestled in the peaceful winemaking village of Villers-la-Faye, only seven minutes from the stunning medieval town of Beaune.
The cottage is completely independent, private, and newly renovated. We do not live on-site. It is extremely quiet, as it tucked back in a lane (with ample free parking all around). The village boulangerie is just steps away so you will be assured of a fresh croissants every morning!
La Maison de la Vieille Vigne consists of one bedroom (with a queen-sized bed), one bathroom, and a main room with a fireplace at one end and a fully equipped kitchen at the other. There is also a private attached flagstone courtyard off the bedroom for outdoor meals, relaxing, or BBQ's. The cottage dates from around 1650 and boasts lovely exposed rock walls and oak beams. It is decorated with a tasteful mix of antiques and new furniture. There is a brand-new and very comfortable double pull-out couch in this Main Room, as well as a comfy chair for reading by the fireplace.
The cottage is completely equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay in Burgundy, including high quality bed linens (beds are made up for your arrival), binders full of local information and tips, towels, and a bottle of local wine to welcome you.
While the village is calm and set in the spectacular undulating vineyards of the Hautes-Cotes, it is very central. Beaune - the beautiful and dynamic medieval town that is the centre of winemaking in the area - is only a seven minute drive away. The fascinating city of Dijon is thirty minutes North. All of the prestigious wine-making villages of the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune such as Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, and Gevrey-Chambertin, to name just a few are, are literally on your doorstep.

Map & Owner's Profile
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Beaune
We had our eye on this cottage for several years, thinking it would make the perfect vacation rental in Burgundy. Not only was it an ancient restored winemaker's cottage, but it was tucked away in a little lane in the oldest part of the village, yet just steps from endless walks through the local vineyards.
Franck finally managed to negotiate a private purchase through his "village" connections and in 2005 we completely renovated the cottage, then furnished it with a brand new kitchen, a divinely comfortable queen-sized bed and double pull-out sofa bed, and some lovely antiques. La Maison de la Vieille Vigne has been "home" in Burgundy for many thrilled guests, from Australian newlyweds on their honeymoon to a Canadian poet taking a three month writing retreat. We have many repeat guests that come back year after year!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
Villers-la-Faye, where the cottage is located and where Franck is from, is off the tourist track yet only 7 minutes from Beaune. Some of the world's most prestigious winemaking villages - Pommard, Meursault, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Vosne-Romanee to name just a few are literally on your doorstep.
In Villers-la-Faye real French people live, work, and make wine (there are several winemakers in the village, just steps from the cottage). La Maison de la Vieille Vigne has everything you need to sit back, relax and experience what authentic life in France is all about, from one week to several months.
We provide you with local information and insider insights you couldn't find anywhere else to help you make the most of your Burgundian escape.
Owner's Map of Beaune
We are a French - Canadian couple who met and fell in love in Burgundy. I am from Victoria, BC, Canada and came to Beaune on a Rotary exchange when I was 18. During that year I met and fell madly in love with Franck, a native Burgundian from the village of Villers-la-Faye where La Maison de la Vieille Vigne is located.
That was 18 years ago and now we have three lovely Franco-Canadian daughters, four vacation rentals in and around Beaune, and a very trans-atlantic lifestyle! Our rentals and free activity-planning service allow you to live in Burgundy like a local. We love helping our guests discover authentic France.

Romantic cottage in winemaking village between Nuits St Georges and Beaune

This cottage is our favourite holiday destination and is even better than the description. Although there is only one bedroom, it is spacious and airy. We know when we come here, we need not bring anything with us, as all needs are catered for - even a salad spinner! It is a joy to cook the delicious food bought in local markets in the bright, modern kitchen and to have dinner on the terrace outside the bedroom and, of course, to enjoy the local burgundy wine. The cottage is always immaculately clean and well maintained - in fact, it is like staying in a 5 star hotel, but with complete privacy. Franck and Laura are always keen to ensure our stay runs smoothly and without any problems, but we never have any! We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to friends as we can guarantee that it is always in first class condition. There is so much to see and do in the area depending on your interests - such as walking, biking, visiting local villages, wine producers or just relaxing in the peace and quiet of the beautiful countryside. We particularly love the town of Beaune with its many restaurants and pavement cafes.

We have been to France before and we love the culture, the people and the food (let’s not forget the wine either!!!). I thought I had experienced the best part of France in the South….I could not been more wrong. Beaune and the surrounding country-side are magnificent. What made our experience even more the richer was staying in a quant, bucolic village, nestled away from the typical tourist area. Our village, Villers- la Faye, and the adorable cottage we stayed in - Maison Veille Vigne - allowed our family to experience the French culture in way we had not been able to before. The cottage itself was very comfortable and extremely appealing and possessed all the amenities we needed to feel like we were living in a real French home. Franc and Laura have created a beautiful, authentic and inviting space that would make anyone feel welcome – the beautiful bottle of wine that greeted us was a very thoughtful touch too. I would go back in a heartbeat to this area and to this sweet cottage. I highly recommend it.

We stayed here for a week in July 2011 and really enjoyed our stay; I would highly recommend this place. The house was a perfect size for a couple, and had all the amenities we needed. It was bright and clean and comfortable, and in a lovely peaceful quiet little village up in the hills (however, there is no actual view from the house because it is nestled in the village). The house was charming with skylights and had a modern kitchen and bath. We loved having wine and cheese on the patio. The owners are not present on site, but were extremely easy and professional to deal with, and gave us lots of great recommendations of things to see and do (both ahead of time and in notebooks in the house). The scenery in Burgundy is just gorgeous. We rented bicycles and really enjoyed the cycling around there. We were about a 10-15 min drive from Beaune and it was easy to drive to and park in Beaune, which has great shops and restaurants. We would love to return and would definitely stay here again.

This is a small, but outstanding property in the middle of a small village just a short drive outside of Beaune. With bikes, we were able to explore the Burgundy vineyards and hills above. Being just a few miles outside of Beaune, everything is nearby, but you are nevertheless in a small village with a feeling of peace and quiet. The property itself is nearly perfect with nothing missing. We managed well with two children and greatly appreciated the washing machine and drier. I can't think of anything the house lacked. We had a shed to lock up our bikes at night, but I doubt they would have been in danger within the quiet village. There is really not much going on in the village itself, except for the bakery just a few steps from the house, which was greatly appreciated mornings after a run through the vineyards. This is a perfect place for a couple or a small family and is a good compromise between being in town but not too far from the action. We will likely be returning in the not too distant future.

My wife and I just returned from our 3 week honeymoon in France, and the week that we spent at this lovely cottage was, by far, our most relaxing and enjoyable. Had we not been in and wanted to see the rest of the region of Burgundy for the first time, we could have easily stayed up at the cottage and been perfectly happy: the village of Villars la Faye is absolutely charming, and there are beautiful walks and bicycle rides all around you. But you also happen to be about 15 minutes (by car) away from Beaune and Nuits St. George, and all the winemakers in their vicinity; and there is that amazing bakery in Comblanchien that Frank & Laura recommend in one of their many notebooks about area. The pictures that they provide of the cottage very accurately reflect the size and feel of the cottage; and it was remarkably clean and very thoughtfully decorated. If you plan on staying in the Cote de Or, this really is the place stay.

I have stayed at this cottage three maybe four times..I have lost track... and having rented places in Bordeaux, Provence, Meursault, it is my favorite spot. The owners have anticipated all your needs and everything is there that you could possibly want. They have an excellent team that keeps the cottage spotless and everything in good working order. Plus, they have purchased very serviceable items ie coffee maker, washer/dryer,telephones, outside table and chairs and loungers... everything is in good condition and is a pleasure to use. I have stayed at places where the coffee machine never worked and the chairs were of the plastic variety and cracked and not much fun to sit on. Where towels were dirty and not pleasant and plastic table cloths mouldy ...but not here! The cottage is bright and beautifully decorated and just the right size for a couple. Plus, it is quiet at night. And then there are the vineyards just a stones throw away where you can walk for miles with beautiful visitas and sounds and smells... Also, the village folks are very friendly. Beaune is only 10 minutes away by car and of course you are so central here to Dijon, and all the Cote D'Or. There is sooo much to do..that is why we keep coming back. For myself I prefer it when the price reflects the total costs and I do find that many of the places in VRBO quote a price but then when you delve into it a little more you realize that they charge extra for cleaning, electricity and water, administrative fees and before you know it the price is 100 euros more than was first quoted. They do that here but not to the extent that some places do. I think you could spend many hours doing internet research and still not find a better and more central place to stay!

My husband and I spent a week in this charming cottage in the quintesential Burgundy village of Villers La Faye. We did not have a car, just our bicycles, but did nto miss a car at all! There are plenty of other villages near-by to explore and groceries are just a few miles away. All the "locals" we encountered in Villers La Faye and nearby were very friendly, welcomed us into their wineries, and were patient with our minimal French. This cottage and village are perfect for a low-key, realxing visit; if you don't want to go anywere in a day, there are wonderful walking choices in the village area and the scenery is never-ending. Franck and Laura were very easy to work with during the reservation process; very responsive and interested in helping you maximize your vacation experience. Their cottage is everything --and more-- than described here. You will not be disappointed!!

As neophytes to travel in France, our choice of Villers-La-Faye and La Maison de la Vielle Vigne was a leap of faith based on the ‘Graperentals’ website and some emails with Franck and Laura. We need not have been apprehensive – the gite exceeded our expectations in every respect. It is small and picturesque – just one bedroom, but it doesn’t feel cramped. The rooms are large and airy, well lit and well appointed. The morning sunshine through the bedroom window was inspiring – encouraging us to get out and explore. The kitchen is well equipped and facilitates those moments when you need a change/rest from exploring the local restaurants. The village itself is charming and set in beautiful countryside – grapevines, forest and other small villages close at hand. The only shop in Villers-la-Faye is a patisserie, open during most mornings and some French is required to discuss the selection of breakfast pastries. However, the village is only 7km from a variety of shops and markets at Nuit-St-George and 10km from the city of Beaune, with some other options in the vicinity. Laura and Franck have provided comprehensive guidance and suggestions on what to see and do. We also gained useful insights from the commentaries left by other guests and in turn we added several pages . Two weeks was not long enough and we hope to come back as soon as we can. Which I think speaks volumes in terms of the quality of our experience.

This little cottage is perfect as a home base in Burgundy, as long as you don't mind being outside a town. It is in a quaint little village. It is newly renovated and has every modern convenience and lots of comforts of home (well appointed kitchen with a few basics - salt and pepper, oil, etc., fireplace, laundry, iron, hairdryer, umbrella, lots of books, movies and loads of local information supplied by the owners). The only thing to know is that it isn't much to look at from the outside and doesn't have picturesque views of the town or of vineyards (nor did the owners claim it did). Since we were rarely there anyway, it didn't matter much and I really appreciated all the effort the owners have made on little touches that make it feel more like a home than a rental flat.

We stayed in this perfect cottage for a week in May and were delighted by it's facilities. The cottage is spacious, clean and fresh, modern, warm (and probably cool too when needed). It is located in a beautiful village too. The village baker is a stroll away. The owners were extremely helpful at all times and the information they provided before our arrival, and with the information that is in the cottage, helped us get the most from our time in Burgundy. Highly recommended.
