What a great vacation for my family and I. I have 2 children under 5 and we all had a blast. There is an abundance of wildlife on or near the property. We saw deer every morning and evening (including one with 3 legs), a fox cut through the property within 20 feet of the house on several occasions, birds of all kinds were everywhere, and turtles and terrapins also wandered by the house the week we were there. Down by the private dock, there were literally thousands of tiny fidler crabs as well as some mussels or clams. The beach is a 30 minute drive from the house, but you pass through the marshes and by NASA on the way, so there is plenty to see. About 10 minutes of the drive is actually in the park and we saw wild horses every day there. The home itself was great. Nice layout and fully furnished with everything we could have needed and more. We enjoyed eating meals on the screened in porch looking out over the marsh and to the ocean. The telescope and binoculars were great for the us and the kids to use. If the kids would have been older, we would have taken advantage of the kayaks or canoe to go to the more private beach we could see from the house. While the satellite tv is nice, we only turned it on twice the whole week. It is a nice "base" to set off for a fun filled day. Thanks to Daisey's Dockside Scenic Cruises, we got a private sightseeing tour with horses, dolphins everywhere, and several birds (bald eagle and osprey). There is putt-putt golf, the horse center, several ice cream shops, and good places to eat in Chincoteague. Onancock is a nice historical neighborhood with beautiful houses and a nice quiet, layed back atmosphere. The welcome basket and bottle of wine also provided a nice touch. We would highly recommend Shore Escape for your Chincoteague/Assateague vacation. It is spacious and well furnished, and the wildlife is something that you can't see many places anymore. We plan on making a return trip when the kids are a bit older. It is in the country, quiet, and not spoiled by lights from a city. Thank you, Ginger, for sharing your house.
