Two story cottage with wrap around deck. Bedroom accommodations upstairs and living/kitchen downstairs. Both floors offer kitchen and bath to provide for separate living spaces, although cottage is rented to only one party at a time. Cottage is located on a private 15 acre agricultural estate. Once you enter the gate, you will understand why the Hawaiian's named this area Onomea, which means 'sweet rest.'
Onomea is considered the crown jewel of the Hamakua coast. Its natural beauty and scenic vistas of Mauna Kea and Hilo Bay are unsurpassed. There are many opportunities to hike and explore the old scenic route and visit Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens(www.htbg.com), Onomea Bay and admire the Onomea Arch. You can also admire the many waterfalls along the scenic road and take a dip in the swimming hole.
Downstairs unit comes equipped with full kitchen, full bath and walk in shower, seating area and pull out double futon. Washer and dryer are situated in the downstairs unit. Separate entrance to upstairs unit is via covered stairway which connects to a wrap around deck that boasts views of Mauna Kea, Hilo Bay, and your own private 30' waterfall. Upstairs unit has a kitchenette, full bath, walk in shower, and double bed. Both units have ample closet space and storage. The estate is located on the original site of the Onomea Sugar Plantation, one of Hawaii's first hydro-powered sugar mills established in 1867. The mango tree in front of the cottage was planted by the plantation founder, James Austin in 1870. There is also a spring fed pond which is stocked with tilapia and catfish. Our agricultural estate is 15 minutes from the Hilo international airport and 10 minutes from downtown Hilo. Hilo town is home to the infamous Hilo Farmer’s Market, Astronomy Center, University of Hawaii Hilo, Hilo Medical Center (hospital), numerous restaurants, shopping, water falls, botanical gardens, horseback riding tours, zip lines and more. The World famous Volcano National Park is also within an hour drive of the estate. Welcome to historic Onomea Sugar plantation, established in 1867 by James Austin as one of the first hydro powered sugar plantations in the State of Hawaii. Our family vacation home is situated on a 15 acre plantation and is located on the Old Onomea Road between the Scenic Route and the Hawaii Belt Highway, just minutes from downtown Hilo.

Our ocean view estate features a two story octagonal cottage with a 360' wrap around deck overlooking a 30' waterfall. The property is 15 minutes from the Hilo International Airport and 10 minutes from downtown Hilo.
