Casa El Refugio is THE only house of its kind available in Oaxaca City and surroundings. One of southern Mexico's most gorgeous houses, Casa El Refugio is nestled in a lovely Zapotec village conveniently located within Oaxaca city limits and offers complete privacy within adobe walls, 360 degree, unobstructed vistas of awe-inspiring mountains, enormous main rooms, a 65-foot lap pool, and fabulous landscaped gardens with abundant fruit trees, fountain, and flower-filled terraces.
Casa El Refugio has four beautiful bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, a large, fully-equipped colonial kitchen, stereo, dvd player and TV, filtered pure well water, exceptional local rugs, crafts, art, and gorgeous views from every room.
We can host up to 8 (+ 2 children if necessary) in 5 separate areas. The house comes with the services of our long-time, english-speaking property manager Cipriano Ramos & trusted staff. Cipriano can also be hired as your guide to Oaxaca, as personal shopper or assistant and as a driver with jeep. We can also provide special tours, evening chef, cooking classes, Zapotec massages, even mariachis!
Additional fee: $200 per wk. (optional for groups up to 4) for daily kitchen service, laundry & extra light housekeeping.
El Refugio is located in Huayapan, a charming Zapotec Indian village that is within city limits, so it is just 20 minutes from downtown Oaxaca, Mexico's beautiful cultural capital. You get the best of both worlds: tranquil village life as it has been lived for centuries, and the bustling capital city with its many museums, events and fantastic shops.
Oaxaca is famous for its excellent cuisine, Zocalo, stupendous archaeological sites, Day of the Dead, Easter Semana Santa, July Guelaguetza, and Christmas Night of the Radishes celebrations, huge markets, & indigenous wood-carving, pottery and rug-weaving villages. Cultural attractions include Santo Domingo Convent & Botanical Garden, the city´s many museums and the Sierra Juarez Mountains for magnificent ecotourism .
Oaxaca enjoys one of the world's best climates averaging 73 degrees in the daytime with very low humidity. Take a mountain hike starting just outside the door, or visit the many archaeological sites, one of the many craft villages throughout Oaxaca state, or go to a restaurant, museum, cinema or nightclub downtown. We can also arrange for an expert Zapotec to give you a special traditional massage and temazcal vapor bath.
From Oaxaca, you can easily travel to the fabulous beach resorts along Oaxaca´s coast. We are offering this earthly paradise to those lucky people who can take a week (or more ) away to work on a novel, prepare a show, or just relax in a hammock by the pool and hummingbird garden.
