Why the discount? There is exterior restoration work underway M-F from 8 am to 5 pm which results in sporadic muffled noises. The work is limited to the fronts of four closed down stacks of units at a time until the project is completed by March 1, 2010. The discount is for any inconvenience you may experience. Of course if you're out most of the day, it's a very good opportunity to visit Lahaina and all of Maui on a budget.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The significant 3 month renovation of my Lahaina Shores Beach Resort sixth floor mountain view studio was completed in July '08. This includes an all new kitchen with solid wood cabinetry which has an oven range and microhood, a sleek vanity room, walk in shower with a transparent glass side wall, Mexican travertine and ceramic tile floors and shower walls, new carpeting, etc. The Hansgrohe wall bar shower is the same as you sometimes find in 4 star hotels.
The virtually silent, high tech ceiling fan was acquired as a result of a production overrun for the Four Seasons Resort at Wailea. Great for dispersing the a/c and, in the evening, the fresh mountain air. It has multi-speed push button forward and reverse controls.
Budget minded? My comfortable fifth floor studio #520 is available at a $15 per night discount off posted rates below. Both studios provide an unobstructed view of the West Maui Mountains. Current photos appear in the photo gallery on owner's own website. (See link below "Rate Details"" and calendar icon further on.)
Artist/owner Jim Egan has tastefully furnished his spacious (550 sq. ft.), mountain facing studio apartments which are centrally air conditioned. The firm California King size bed, along with the carpeted bedroom / living area, make these desirable retreats.
Also, there's a rollaway bed with a standard size mattress available for a third guest.
In each unit, the fully equipped kitchen is complete with full size appliances, a microwave, cookware, dishes and utensils. Plenty of linens and towels (as well as beach towels) are provided. And you can leave your hair dryer and iron at home. Bring your own CD's! There's a CD/tape/FM stereo player. There's also cable TV with VCR. The direct phone allows free local calling.
High speed internet connection is now available. Service is provided by Oceanic Time Warner Cable who will charge your credit card at a rate of $9.95 per 24 hr. day or $39.95 per week. Easy access instructions are posted in each unit. On site parking is $3.65 per night payable at the front desk. Also, there is a coin operated commercial grade laundry room on each floor.
These 550 sq. ft. studios consist of a bath/shower with a separate vanity area, a dining area and a large living/bedroom area. In addition, there's a commercial grade coin-op laundry room on each floor.
In addition to the complete furnishings of a vacation home, you are provided with the "niceties" of a beachfront resort hotel including an open, breezy, comfortably furnished lobby, central air conditioning, large swimming pool, large jacuzzi, BBQ, 24 hr.front desk, etc.
The central air conditioning now has individual electronic controls. The entryway, the lobby, elevators and hallways have been completely remodeled, no doubt inspired by early Hawaiian plantation mansions.
The property is fronted by the ocean and has a beach which is excellent for sunbathing, safe swimming and snorkeling. (There's a reef about 150 yds. out which protects the beach from surf.) The large, manicured swimming pool area between the building and the beach is enhanced with umbrella'd tables & chairs, plus loungers for reading, sunning and snoozing. There's even a heated, bubbling, jacuzzi spa. Who knows? You might make some new friends!
World class golf (think Sony Open), deep sea fishing and all water activities are available nearby.
At 475 Front St., this is the only beachfront resort in Lahaina. It's just a 3/10 mile walk down Front St. to Lahaina Harbor and quaint, historic Lahaina Town itself, Maui’s storied shop-’til-you-drop, gallery hopping, dining & partying mecca.
Why the Owner Chose Lahaina
Why Lahaina Shores Beach Resort? Being that Lahaina was decreed a National Historical Landmark by the National Park Service on December 29th, 1962, it seemed a wise long term investment to be nearby. So far, so good. Originally I had rented my fifth and sixth floor units as long term rentals. Once I retired from advertising and graphic design in 1990, I thought it would be interesting to self market my condos (also one at Maui Vista Resort in Kihei) as vacation rentals. So I developed my own website and promoted my properties through VRBO and other portals on the Internet. Now I find I'm really enjoying helping folks enjoy Maui. It's gratifiying to get feedback on information provided about things to see and do and where to eat. Many guests write me notes on how much they enjoyed the suggestions, and even have suggestions of their own. Other than golf (don't ask), and my art, this is what I do. Fun!
The only vacation resort in Lahaina that's right on the beach. And only 3/10ths mile walk to Lahaina Harbor and the beginning of storied Lahaina Town itself.
Owner's Map of Lahaina
Since retiring from his advertising and graphic design career, Jim has been promoting his three Maui condo rentals via the internet.
To satisfy his creative appetite, he joined the Honolulu Printmakers. In a workshop environment Jim has learned printmaking techniques including engraving, etching, aquatint, embossing and photogravure. Jim's efforts in these areas have resulted in his works being included in the juried Honolulu Printmakers Annual shows since 2005. In the '05 Annual Show, he was awarded the HonBlue purchase award.
In March 2007, the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, CT held their Sixth Annual Miniature Print Biennial in which Jim was awarded third prize. 130 works were displayed out of 548 entries from 180 artists living in 18 countries. The judge was the esteemed David Kiehl, curator of prints at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. The show got an upbeat review in the Arts and Entertainment section of the April 29, 2007 Sunday New York Times. The reviewer described the print "Fantasy Hibiscus," as a "lush, colored photogravure of a flower by Jim Egan from Hawaii, striking a balance between mastery of technique and innovation."
My golf game? That's a whole other story!
