Folly Beach is like no other place. Once the haunt of hippies and dropouts, it has retained its quaint beach-side atmosphere. When other communities were being developed out of existence and their personality, Folly remained unchanged. Now it is one of the most desired communities South Carolina as quietly over the past few years it has been discovered. This means all the more amenities for you while keeping all the charm.

This home is the ultimate beach vacation rental. From the high-quality linens and bath products, to the well-stocked gourmet kitchen, it was five star luxury all the way, just as it is billed in its listing. We were so appreciative to find a pet-friendly home that was also luxurious... something that you rarely find. And the size of the home allowed all our family members to have their own rooms, and we could spread out and enjoy some relaxation without being on top of each other. This house is clean, well-stocked and comfortable. It has all the amenities you could possibly need for a beach vacation. You don't need to bring a thing! There was even a large dog crate, perfect for our golden retriever. We loved Folly Beach and the local atmosphere. The local "Lost Dog Cafe" was a perfect place for breakfast. Charleston was so easily accessible with all its lovely shops and restaurants, not to mention all the historical sites. The entire Charleston area has so much to explore, and Folly is the perfect hub for seeing it all. In short, we can't say enough about this great home and the owner's customer service. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, luxurious beach rental (with or without the family dog!).Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you yet again to all my great guests .I really do appreciate you going to the trouble of going online to give my home such a nice review. It really does make me work even harder to make it perfect for you all . Thanks so much best wishes ,Leonie

Great family vacation site! Plenty of room to spread out for six adults and two toddlers. Easy access to Charleston, the beach, and shopping. The master suite has a Very comfortable king size bed, great large walk in shower, and individual sinks. The kitchen is well furnished with a large refrigerator and awesome commercial grade gas stove. Having the two microwaves made it so easy to multitask in the kitchen!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We were here between Christmas and New Year's - my daughter had found the perfect place for our annual winter vacation for the 4 of us. The place is amazing! Sooooo beautiful, decorated like a real Med home with every amenity imaginable. You will think you have been transported and won't ever want to leave. My husband and son-in-law spent so much time fighting over the chef's kitchen that we only went out to eat twice. Watching the New Year's festivities from the roof was a wonderful way to start the new year. Even our dog had a wonderful time, since the owners provided for his needs as well as ours. Folly is a really dog-friendly town which all of us liked. My husband had been stationed in Charleston during his Navy days and lived on Folly. He says it has changed a lot in almost 40 years! :) We did find the house he lived in, a couple of streets away from here, and he said this home was a bit better than his bachelor's hovel. So, here's the BUT part. I must first say there was no alcohol involved. One night, in the middle of the night, I was going down the very highly polished staircase, slipped and fell down the entire center section. I grabbed for the handrail behind me, which doesn't exist on that side - there is a wall there. I stopped at the final landing before the first few steps up, curled in a ball. I had a very large bruise on my left shoulder, one the size of my hand on my hip and a throbbing left thumb. Fortunately there were no bones sticking out anywhere so I thought I was OK. I had trouble walking the last two days we were there and met our insurance deductible on Jan 2 when we got home and I got to my doctor. I was found to have a deep tissue injury to my hand, a cracked pelvis and fortunately just bruising to my shoulder. I had a stair runner installed at my house the week we got home. This is not to say that the place is unsafe. Just be aware, especially with children, that on the turns in the staircase where the steps become triangles at the landings, there is no place to hold on since the posts there are so large. We had a wonderful time and I would go again, but next time I would choose the downstairs bedroom. The ad says 'perfect for grandparents' and since I am going to be a grandmother this summer, I guess that is true. Enjoy this home and the thoughful comfort it provides. We did.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We had no idea until this review was posted 4 months after the rental that a guest had such an uncomfortable fall in our home.We have installed grips on the stairs to ensure it does not happen again. We have been renting for 8 years now and never had a complaint about the stairs but we will not take any chances on our guests health and comfort.Good luck in your recovery and thank you for the great review of our home.I do hope you do come back to enjoy it again.Leonie

Getting together with great comfort was our criteria for this vacation. All of us are getting old (70's and 80) and my brother is handicapped. Except for the stairs we all managed very well and even that did not present a real problem. We were all very impressed with the property and the spaciousness of the house. When we arrived, one shower did not have hot water and Leonie had a plumber come immediately. The cleaning ladies were there yet because we arrived early. They were so friendly and happy to tell us where to go and what to see. Several of us were delighted to find a post office a few blocks away.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

I've been to Folly Beach multiple times, stayed in different private homes. This home is very nice and accomodating. I had friends from Colorado, Florida and California and us from Ohio. Ample room for the 6 of us. We cooked alot of meals at home and found this home to be well stocked with all the utensils, pots, pans etc. that we needed. We even did a Thanksgiving meal for our thankfulness of being together in such a casual, beautiful setting. The house is magnificent just as shown in the pictures. Couldn't have asked for a more pleasant vacation. I highly recommend anybody going to Folly to vacation at this location. I think we are actually going to rent the second property next year called "The Perfect Beach Cottage". Leonie is a very accomodating home owner and takes pride in hear rental. Thank You Leonie for one of the best vacations I've experienced on Folly!Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, tourists without a car.

Everything as described and so many extras. Great large kitchen for family meal prep. Wonderful screened porch. Very close to beach but far enough away to be very peaceful. Nice very short walk to numerous good restaurants and pier. Don't miss Crosby's Seafood market (on the right just over the bridge to Folly). Fabulous shrimp in season just off the boat never frozen. Owner and cleaning staff make sure everything is just right for your stay.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers.

We had a wonderful experience during our stay on Folly Island. The house was beautiful just as portrayed and the owner was easy to work with. In my opinion this house is in the perfect location. It was easy walking distance to both the beach and the downtown area. The island was fun and quaint. It was everything we hoped for in our vacation planning. As my children said, the house is part of the vacation and we were pleased with the outcome. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our family stayed at this wonderful home recently. More importantly, this house is as advertised. Leonie was always always accommodating and prompt in answering any questions. The occasion for our visit was our 50th wedding anniversary. We invited our daughters, their spouses, and our four grandchildren to join us. We stayed in the Master Suite and the grandkids enjoyed taking showers in our large shower. Two of the grandsons (one is 6' tall) slept comfortably on the trundle bed and one slept on a sofa in the living room. This house allows you to be together or to just be alone. The kitchen is great. Be sure and look in the cabinet to the right of the sink for another set of dishes. The boys enjoyed riding their bikes around Folly and on the beach. Bring your own bikes if you can a it costs $40 for four days to rent one. You can buy one at Walmart down there for around $85 and take it home! We bought groceries at Publix, but there is a Piggly Wiggly nearer the house. We found dry ice at Harris Teeter. The boys played basketball in the park, all four went on a half-day fishing trip and all of us took tours of Charleston. There's plenty of beach towels and beach chairs so leave yours at home. We were happy to have found this beautiful home and to share it with our family.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: My husband and I were both born in Ireland but have lived in the US for 20 years and are proud American citizens. We live full time in Augusta Ga where he is Dean of the Medical School .We have 2 teen boys who love to bring their friends to Folly as well as 2 Great Danes who love the beach. We love to relax and hang out in Folly and Charleston where time just expands and you can never tire of going back to again and again.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We were looking for somewhere we could have for a vacation home for now ,and later as a place to retire.Folly has it all ,its relaxing without being too quiet, has the beach but so much more within short distance that you could never get bored .It has all the charms of Charleston within 10 min.Its old-fashioned eclectic feel reminded us of the seaside village in Ireland where we had a home previosly. It had everything we were looking for and more.It has a real vacation feel to it yet is a living suburb of Charleston open year round. It is impossible not to relax in Folly.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This home was built in 2000 by a builder as his main home so he put in a standard unlike anything else at the beach. Its also built in such a way as to give everyone staying space and privacy so everyone staying here has a great time together and never feel on top of each other. Its just 2 minutes to the beach and 2 min to center street Folly yet on a amazingly quiet street so little traffic. We are surrounded by owner occupied homes so its incredible quiet. When you are in the screened porch all you hear is the sound of birds singing from the empty lot next door and sound of waves crashing from the ocean. After all these years we still feel it a treat to go there ourselves. We have a great team of cleaning staff and handymen so we do not have to spend our own vacations doing the work to keep the house in tip top shape as we did the first year we owned it ,so we get to be guest and enjoy Folly too!
