"THE FORT" is 13 acres located on Folly Beach, a barrier island only 9 miles from downtown, historic Charleston. The property encompasses 9 acres of marsh land and 4 acres of high ground. On the high ground there are two small houses and private dock; very private living space with great ocean and marsh views, yet accessible to everything. No houses within 1500 feet on oceanfront or marsh.
NO COMPARABLE PROPERTY AT FOLLY BEACH! The Fort is connected to the main road, East Ashley Avenue, by a private causeway. The swimming and surfing beach, known as "The Washout" to locals, is right across the street with unobstructed ocean views. On the river/marsh side the property has a private dock for crabbing and shrimping. Lots of room to walk and play; 52 different birds sighted; dolphins swim right up to dock.
The Fort was originally a Native American Island. In the Civil War the Union Army used it for storage and fortified it, including building the causeway to the main road. The Union Army used the end of Folly Island to blockade the port of Charleston and a Parrot gun was put on The Fort to shell Fort Sumter. The Main House on The Fort was erected shortly after World War II. The Cottage was constructed in 2003.
The Classic Folly House at The Fort:
Newly renovated bathroom with shower/tub and three bedrooms. The first bedroom has a queen size bed, second bedroom has two twin beds, and the third bedroom has a full size bed. This house sleeps 5 people. It has a full kitchen and living room/dining room combination; enclosed porch overlooking the ocean.
Comfortably furnished as a classic Folly beach house with newly redone hardwood floors. It has new central heat and air conditioning, large refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, microwave, coffee maker, washer/dryer, dishwasher and outside hot/cold shower. THIS IS A NON-SMOKING PROPERTY.
NO PETS ALLOWED.
The Fort is also the home to The Cottage at The Fort. The Classic Folly House and The Cottage can be rented together for groups of 8 to 10 guests.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
THE FORT WILL ONLY ACCOMODATE A CERTAIN NUMBER OF RENTERS. THIS WILL PRESERVE THE INTEGRITY OF THE STRUCTURES AND PROPERTY. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF RENTERS PERMITTED IN THE CLASSSIC FOLLY HOUSE IS 5. IF MORE THAN PERMITTED AMOUNT OF RENTERS ARE IN EITHER HOUSE YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE. LOCAL FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE WELCOME TO VISIT YOU, BUT NO MORE THAN 10 PEOPLE, INCLUDING RENTERS, PERMITTED ON THE PROPERTY AT ONE TIME. THE PROPERTY MAY NOT BE USED AS A PARKING LOT FOR LOCAL FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO SPEND THE DAY AT THE BEACH. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.
BEHAVIOR SUCH AS TRASHING OF PROPERTY, GUESTS WHO ARE DRUNK AND DISRUPTIVE, DESTRUCTIVE, ETC. IS UNACCEPTABLE AND YOU WILL BE ESCORTED FROM PROPERTY BY POLICE.
