Wonderful opportunity to stay in the heart of the Giant Sequoia National Monument. This cabin is NOT in the foothills, but is at 7200 feet, far enough into the monument to have access to pristine hiking and outdoor activities in all directions. It is rare to find a rental this far into the monument. Ponderosa is a very small enclave of private cabins at the top of a mountain range and is surrounded by National Forest land. With an average of 23 feet of snowfall per year, this mountain cabin offers serene beauty and outdoor activities for every season.
Please note that the Giant Sequoia National Monument and the Sequoia National Park are not adjacent. The monument has a separate approach from the valley up to the mountains than the Park. We prefer the monument as it is similar in topography as the Park without the traffic and crowds.
Nearby are groves of Giant Sequoia Trees, stocked fishing at Peppermint Creek, waterfalls, and world-class rock climbing at Needles and Dome Rock (15 minute drive). In the wintertime, go sledding or take advantage of the many cross-country ski trails. Ski rentals are available at the Ponderosa Lodge (approximately one mile away). Roads are cleared of snow during daylight hours. Bring chains during winter months. Also nearby is a pack station that offers day rides into the Golden Trout Wilderness Area. The cabin has one bedroom (queen bed) and a large loft upstairs (four twins), and a full sofa bed downstairs. The cabin sleeps up to eight.
To find on Mapquest- look up "Springville, CA 93265," follow road 190 past Camp Nelson, Ponderosa is near Quaking Aspen Meadow. (too small to appear on map) |
