Oceanfront Kailua Kona Hawaii Vacation Rental House On White Sandy Beach
Location: Hale Kai O'Kona, Kailua-Kona, Kona Coast, Big Island, Hawaii, USA (just 2 miles south of Kailua-Kona on Ali’i Drive)

Welcome To Our Oceanfront Kona Vacation Rental Beach House! We think it’s the best place we’ve ever stayed, and here’s why!
This Kona vacation rental house is right on a small, beautiful, sandy white beach, perfect for couples and families. You can watch dolphins and sea turtles from both the upstairs and downstairs lanais.
And this townhouse is so easy to live in! The unit has approximately 2300 sq. ft. of centrally AIR-CONDITIONED space on two floors, plus 400 sq. ft. of lanai space. And, the house was JUST remodeled! The kitchen has new granite countertops, a new stovetop, and a brand new microwave and oven. All the bathrooms were remodeled with beautiful travertine, quartz tiles, and granite countertops. New carpeting and paint throughout!
Sliding glass doors open onto two oceanfront lanais that overlook the beautiful white sand beach, the black lava rocks, the surf, and sea-life including dolphins, sea turtles, and seasonal whales.
This particular Hawaii vacation condo is unusual in that there are only 8 units, two per building, and all are oceanfront. The complex is very private and easy—no long hauls from the car or to the water. There is covered parking adjacent to the unit, and the beach starts at the bottom step of the deck!
The living room and master bedroom have full ocean views and you can hear the soothing sounds of the surf. The spacious master bedroom is a king-sized suite containing a bathroom with a whirlpool tub and separate shower, and it opens up onto an oceanfront lanai.
The second bedroom upstairs is large and has its own bath, two twin beds, and a futon sofa that converts to a double bed. It was originally two small bedrooms that were remodeled into one very spacious bedroom with a large sitting area and desk. This is why our unit has three bedrooms and the others in our complex have four, even though the square footage is approximately the same for all the units.
The downstairs bedroom has a queen sized bed and a full bathroom. It can be entered either through the house or through its own entrance, and is perfect for grandparents, a nanny, friends, or families with more than two children.
Just a short walk of about 100 yards down the beach from us, there is a hidden protected cove with resident, rather inquisitive sea turtles. Although Hawaii State law prohibits humans from approaching sea turtles, the turtles themselves seem to operate under no such restrictions. On every trip, they have swum up to check us out (and, I suspect, to see if we happen to be carrying any seaweed). This is one of the most magical experiences we have ever had as a family, and look forward to it each year.
There are lots of amenities, too, including a fully equipped kitchen featuring a Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer and koa wood cabinets, washer/dryer, air-conditioning, whirlpool tub, BBQ grill, linens, beach towels, beach toys, boogie boards, FREE unlimited high speed internet access, wireless internet access, FREE unlimited local phone calls, cable TV, iPod player, stereo (with vintage Hawaiian CD’s), CD player, and DVD and VCR players.
The Ali’i Gardens Marketplace is just across the street and down about 3 blocks. It has over 50 merchants who offer handmade products, Kona coffee, incredibly fresh produce and flowers, snorkel rentals, shave ice, and lots of other wonderful things.
Kailua-Kona is only 2 miles north of our condo and features shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. Magic Sands Beach is 1 mile south and offers the best waves in town—it’s great for body surfing and boogie boarding. Kahalu’u Beach is just 2 miles south, and is one of the best snorkeling spots we’ve ever been to, especially for children. It’s protected and shallow, and filled with fish, many of which are quite tame.
And, of course, there’s all of the other great stuff Kailua Kona is famous for, including Swimming, Snorkeling, Diving, Boating, Kayaking, Sailing, Surfing, Windsurfing, Parasailing, Tide Pools, Seasonal Whale Watching, Luaus, Wildlife Viewing; Submarine Rides; Hiking, Biking, Golf, Tennis, Fishing, Shopping, Restaurants, Cinemas, Sightseeing, Museums, and Horseback Riding.
Now, if our words haven’t yet convinced you why we think this Hawaii vacation rental is really great, we’re hoping our photographs will!
Aloha and thank you for considering our home for your vacation.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2003
We're a family in love with Hawaii! We looked at houses for almost 15 years before we found the "perfect" vacation home-- we LOVE this house and the coastline it inhabits.
Why the Owner Chose Hale Kai O'Kona
First of all, we love the location. The protected cove just down the shoreline is a perfect place to go with kids. It's easy and convenient-- something we really value when we're vacationing. Plus, it's very safe for children to go in the water there, compared to many places along the Kona coast-- especially in high surf. Sand is pretty rare, too, since most of the coastline is pure lava rock.
Second, we've been told by realtors that the unit has the largest square footage of any condo on the water in the Kailua Kona area-- by a long shot. We're pretty sure this is true because we haven't seen anything as large. This extra space allows everyone to spread out and be comfortable.
Third, we love being so close to the ocean. Many "oceanfront" properties, while technically oceanfront, are so far from the water that you can't hear the waves. We also discovered, in our 15 years of searching, that a property as a whole might be oceanfront, but a particular unit can be very far from the water.
Fourth, we discovered the hard way that central air-conditioning was a necessity for our family. We first started traveling when our children were young, and were swayed by the ads promising that the "island breezes" were all that anyone would need. Unless you had toddlers running around and weren't comfortable leaving the windows and sliding glass doors open at night!
Finally, the configuration of the house was perfect for traveling with extended family-- each group has their own roomy bedroom and private bathroom.
There were lots of other reasons, but we're hitting the space limit here-- suffice it to say that after 15 years of looking, we think we hit gold!
The Unique Benefits of this Condo
In the years that we've been vacationing in this house, we've been fortunate to have a number of wonderful experiences.
First, it was a perfect configuration to have extended family-- sharing the Kona experience with children and their grandparents is beyond description.
Also, the unit is so close to the ocean and the water is so clear that you can actually see fish swimming in the waves just before they crest (don't forget to bring your polarized sunglasses!). We leave our binoculars in the unit for guests in hope that they are lucky enough to spot some of the cool sea-life we've watched from the lanais, including sea turtles, spinner dolphins, manta rays, and whales. Seriously, whale watching from the lanai-- it doesn't get much better than that!

Of all the places we have visited in over 40 countries and of all the places we have stayed, your condo is the one I would most like to return to. Snorkeling on the Big Island from beaches ranks among the top in the world. Beautiful. Thank you.

This condo was far beyond my expectations. Located right on the beach with unobstructed views and a short walk to turtle beach. We travelled with our 3 kids and my in-laws - plenty of space and something for everyone. Two bedrooms upstairs and a downstairs bedroom gave us all a little privacy and no need for my in-laws to climb steps. Newly remodeled we did not want for anything. Beach chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards provided a great beach experience. A notebook with restaurant suggestions, great beach suggestions, and other fun activities just made this rental over the top. Everything about the listing was accurate and the owners were easy to work with and porvided many great suggestions. I would rate it 10 stars if they would let me.

Your place was SO TOTALLY FABULOUS. We really really loved it. Big Island is the best, and your home is ideally located and SO beautiful, so well laid out and well equipped, and with so much space. We all had such a good time, my boys said it was better than when we took them to Australia two years ago. We went on to Oahu for a week following our stay in Kona, and it was such a disappointment in contrast to your place. We felt so at home in your house, and the whole way of life is just so chilled and relaxed, completely the way we love to live. We are really hoping to be able to come back some time.Thank you so much for letting us share your lovely home, you guys are really lucky to have such a wonderful place to escape to. Your neighbours were so kind and helpful, we tried not to take advantage of them too much, my sister would have happily moved Sundance in with us if she had half a chance! The house is so beautifully equipped, a great kitchen, along with all those handy extras - boogie boards, cooler, beach chairs etc. And really well located - we spent lots of time at nearby magic sands beach (when we weren't just hanging out with the turtles at the cove by the house). And the 'Top 12' list is full of really good things to do - we loved Lava Java and the Kona Brewery! Thanks again, we will never forget Hale Kai o'Kona.

Hi Marty and Chris, we had a wonderful time at your beautiful home in Hawaii. We were so rushed, however, in the morning that we had to leave and did not have time to write in your guest book. With three teenagers, we managed to do A LOT of fun activities on the island...as always not enough time. Next time we will leave the kids at home and either come alone or with 1 or 2 other couples. Everything we needed was right there in the condo and I'm telling you, I have never ever slept better in my life listening to the sounds of the ocean right outside. Thank you for a wonderful experience...no wonder you practically begged the owners to buy that condo, it is just wonderful! The green sand beach was our second trip and just as gorgeous as ever. My middle son Sean who is 17 is on a "Hawaii high". And my oldest son had a blast riding ATVs (faster than I'm sure they usually allow), but the guys were the only ones on the tour; and my daughter absolutely loved the horseback riding in Waipo Valley. The snorkeling was amazing! and we swam with a huge sea turtle. No problems at all, we will definitely return and recommend your condo to others. Mahalo Marilyn and Jeff and three happy teens!

A beautiful place! Chris & Marty have thought of everything to make your stay in their home a pleasure and worry-free! Our family of six, grandparents, son, daughter-in-law, daughter & granddaughter (ages 9-70) stayed for two weeks. It works! Ample living space, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable sleeping accommodations, clean small ( 8 units) complex, parking on site, within walking distance to shopping & restaurants. Everything we wanted to make our stay memorable! The location is awesome! Right on the beach, private turtle cove just steps away, great views from the lanai, quiet area. Enjoyed the Farmer's Markets on the Big Island.

We stayed in thus condo for a week in January, 2010. There were five of us. We had plenty of room and felt like we had a home in paradise. The condo was well furnished and very comfortable. We woke up in the morning and watched the sun rise over the ocean. We watched whales and dolphins from the lanai and the turtles came up to our feet at the beach. We were able to walk two miles to Kona and the near by farmer's markets. The big island is wonderful. There is so much to see and do. We loved every minute of it. We will be back next year!
