Twin Owls House - Quiet & Immaculate Perfect Family Gathering

Year Purchased: 2004

Why the Owner Chose Estes Park

Twin Owls House is adjacent to our family home. Our dear friends used to own the house for 20 years before we bought it. We grew very sentimentally attached to this beautiful home. It is truly a historic Estes Park home that has been cared for so graciously. We take extra good care of this charmer and think it sits on one of the best lots in town. Since we live next door it is easy for us to maintain and to be available for our guests should they need anything.

The Unique Benefits at this House

IMMACULATE, QUIET,BRIGHT! This house is in a quiet, residential neighborhood. It's on a large lot with one of the biggest and oldest Ponderosa pine trees in the Estes Valley. There are gorgeous trees, a meadow and nice views of Lumpy Ridge. It's easy to enjoy the outdoors with the front deck, back patio, hammock and comfortable Amish furniture in the yard. There's always wildlife passing through and when indoors, you can see it all with the big picture windows.

Owner's Map of Estes Park

We are a family run business. Mike takes care of the dirty and really hard work! Margie takes care of the booking process, cleaning, maintaining and updating the house. The kids help rake pine needles and contribute to the toy closet. Margie will be the one you most likely talk to. I always like to meet my guests, give a tour and answer any questions about the house, neighborhood, town and Rocky Mountain National Park.
I've lived in Estes Park for 30 years and enjoy sharing my love and knowledge of the area.

We had a wonderful time staying at Mike and Margie's place. They are very hospitable and will ensure that your stay runs as smoothly as possible. The place is kept spotless, is very spacious and is centrally located to town and to the park. We even saw some elk in the yard a couple of times! There are beautiful views from the yard, deck and house. Staying there really enhanced our vacation. We would highly recommend this place.

Twin Owls House - Quiet & Immaculate Perfect Family Gathering

We stayed at Twin Owls house from April 4 thru April 8, 2011.

We could not have asked for a more peaceful, comfortable home away from home. Being located in a residential area, the house was very quiet and away from areas of concentrated vacationers and busy streets. Yet, it was close to the park and downtown. We had a lot of room to spread out and relax, read, write, work on laptops, organize, cook, eat, and play a nightly game of scrabble. Our one cold, rainy day found us camped in front of the wood-burning fireplace watching the amber eyes of the twin owl andirons glow in the firelight. The sunrise was reflected along Lumpy Ridge outside our front windows and mule deer came to feed and rest in the front yard along with pygmy nuthatches, chickadees, juncos and the woodpeckers we never quite caught sight of. We saw a herd of elk in the woods about a half mile away. The Bridal Veil and Gem Lake trail heads were just down the road and provided great hiking without having to travel to the main entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Our hosts, Margie and Mike and their three kids, lived next door and offered many suggestions on where to hike, eat and shop. Despite their busy schedules, they were very responsive to our questions and needs at the house. Although it was still too early in the season to enjoy the patio and deck, we did grill out one night under a starry sky. The porch/mudroom off the kitchen was great for dumping gear and muddy boots before going inside. The narrow winding stairway to the basement made us wonder if this was really the inspiration for Stephen King’s “The Shining” rather than the nearby Stanley Hotel. However, once at the bottom, it was just the typical basement with laundry room, furnace and hot water heater. The house was heated with radiators enclosed in ornate cabinets that kept any clothes laid on top nice and warm when we were ready to put them on. I hope we can go back some day.

Twin Owls House

Twin Owls House was a wonderful week's experience for my wife, sons and me. We so enjoyed the comfortable, clean, spacious home, but it was the proprietess (Margie Hauser) and her family that made the stay seem so much like home. Ms. Hauser's warm smile and inviting personality made the stay seem like we were staying with family. My wife and I were so impressed by the cleanliness of the home and by the wonderful decorative touches that the home possesses. We both highly recommend the Twin Owls House to anyone who loves the Colorado mountains and who loves to be treated like family. Margie and her family make the people who stay at Twin Owls feel like they've always been living there: we couldn't have been happier with our stay.

Owner response:Wow, what nice compliments from our new friends! It was such a pleasure to have your family in our neighborhood. We enjoyed meeting you and look forward to your next visit to Twin Owls House! You know you are always welcome here.

Wonderful house with a good location

I give the Twin Owls house my highest possible recommendation. The house itself is fabulous --- well-decorated and maintained, nice layout, a lovely deck with good views, and an amazing yard. There are three good-sized bedrooms, two living/family rooms, a nice dinning room, and a large kitchen. The house could easily and comfortably be used by a family of 6 or 7 for weeks on end. The location is also very nice --- a 10-15 minute walk to downtown Estes Park and yet positioned in among the trees in a quiet neighborhood. Another huge plus is that the owners live year-round next door and take excellent care of the house and its surrounding grounds. They are also super friendly. My family has been staying in the Twin Owls house each summer for one to two weeks for several years now, and we plan to continue to do so in future years. It's become a home away from home for us, and I'm sure it will for your family too.

We enjoyed our time at the Twin Owls House. We spent our honeymoon in Estes Park and this was a perfect, private and quiet place to spend our time. The house was very clean and well-kept, and Margie was very helpful and attentive to our needs. We were able to see deer and elk outside our windows! Everywhere we wanted to visit was a very short car trip from the Twin Owls House, and we even walked into town a couple of times. I would highly recommend this house to anyone-couples, families--it will exceed your expectations!
