This recently renovated home has a 165' private beach - that's triple the normal frontage - on the incredible Great Peconic Bay. The bay is like a big bathtub... two miles across, and less than 10' deep. The waters are incredibly calm most days, and you can wade out literally hundreds of yards. Very kid-friendly! It's truly spectacular for swimming, sailing, skiing... or just lying on the white sand.
About the beach: the house is "double-bulkheaded," meaning you'll have a completely private, 5000 square foot "upper" beach as your personal sandbox, about 6 steps above the bay beach itself... where you can swim, launch a boat, watch millions of horseshoe crabs mate at midnight (but only at one full moon annually!), or just swim and play all day. Behind the private beach is a broad grassy lawn, perfect for badminton, croquet... or just lounging.
The whole property is geared for outdoor living, including two beautiful mahogany decks (one for dining/entertaining and one off the master bedroom), an outdoor bath and two luxurious hot-water outdoor showers. However, the house is perfectly comfortable and well-equipped for the occasional rainy day (in addition to the satellite TV, we keep a stock of DVDs & board games). And, you'll enjoy a secure, extremely high-speed wireless data network that gives you internet access from every corner of the beach. The master bedroom has a queen bed, two guest bedrooms have two twin beds each, and there's a double futon (deluxe foam) in the living room.
Though the North Fork feels like another world (and another era), it's just 90 minutes to midtown Manhattan. JFK and LaGuardia are even closer, and Islip airport is still more convenient. Or, you can be in the Hamptons in a half hour... though after a couple of days on our beach, you won't want to bother! Instead, you'll visit friendly North Fork vineyards for tastings and live music (this really is an East Coast Napa Valley), or take a short drive to Greenport - a quaint and historic fishing village with great cafes, atmosphere, and terrific arts and craft shops... plus a fabulous carousel for the kids. In short: you'll be perfectly relaxed here, but not bored.
Notes:
Rate includes EVERYTHING. No shares; well-behaved pets only; NO SMOKING. Week begins and ends on Saturday. [check-in 2 PM, check-out 10 AM]. This is a two family house; the second unit is occupied by owner two or three weekends/month, no weekdays. We'll gladly put you in touch with previous guests for reference (they keep coming back!).
