South Lake Tahoe Mountain Chalet Style Cabin

Why the Owner Chose Meyers

Our cabin is uniquely situated away from the congestion of the traffic down South Lake Tahoe Blvd. We have easy 10 minute access to Pioneer Trail which leads directly to Heavenly Valley ski resort and Stateline, Nevada. We are also a short 10 minute drive from Sierra-at-Tahoe. Our cabin is over 1550 sq ft and with its location on a quiet street, was ideal for our grand-children to run and play without any worry of traffic. Our lot is large and the adjoining lot is open and available for playing in the woods. We searched for many months for this cabin, and love it to pieces!

Owner's Map of Meyers

My husband and I grew up in Central California and always visited South Lake Tahoe for fun and recreation. We now live in Washington State, but have maintained our connection with our rental in Tahoe Paradise (formally, Meyer). This quiet suburb of South Lake Tahoe is nestled on a quiet cul-de-sac, in the woods near shopping and recreation. We are a short drive away from the lake, casinos, restaurants and ski resorts. We love the relaxing atmosphere of our rustic cabin, and have had many happy moments there with our children and grand-children. Come and try it! It is awesome!

South Lake Tahoe Mountain Chalet Style Cabin

Run down, does not provide functional kitchen

Guest: Mimm (Davis, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/17/11 Review Submitted: 07/22/11

In mid-June, I rented this cabin for my sister's and my family to stay in over a weekend, and we only stayed long enough to find another cabin. Our first impression was that it is rundown and not that clean. In the kitchen, the large element on the stove is floppy and can't support the weight of a pan, the outer face of the oven door was missing, and a support below the oven door fell down when I opened the lower drawer on the oven. There wasn't a single pot that wasn't warped or irretrievably burned, and many of the kitchen appliances were greasy and dirty. The outside grill was filthy. Some windows don't have screens. The beds have faux bedframes, with log-looking headboards that are not connected and flopped over when we plugged in the lamp cords. My sister was afraid to let her young kids sit on the carpet because the general appearance of the cabin suggested that cleanliness was not a priority. I called the owner to tell him the condition of the place and that it was unlivable for us, and then I found another place to stay. The following Monday, I requested that he mail back our damage deposit. He never did so, leaving us no choice but to cancel that check, at the cost of $35 to us. He was very slow to respond once we arranged a date to stay there, and later claimed our damage check took over 2 weeks to get to him because he lived all the way up in Washington State (?!), and that this was why he still hadn't mailed instructions to us until I finally called him a few days before we were to take occupancy.

You get what you pay for. No dishwashing machine, insufficient heating, annoying warnings posted all over the house by the owner threatening to steal your security deposit if you don't wash the dishes, etc. Kind of dumpy, but cheap- so...

Owner response:Mr. Green stayed in our cabin, and yes, it was built in the 1960's. We have some signs posted to let our clients know not to smoke, to take all garbage to the bear proof containers, etc. No more than I have seen in many other rentals. The heating is adequate in our home, as well as the wood stove that will drive you out of the cabin if used. We have only had to cash the damage deposit 2 times in 10 years due to damage done in our home. Once for $50 and once for $75 dollars. The remainder of the deposits were returned to our clients. NO ONE will ever get their damage deposit retained for dirty dishes, etc. We just ask that you clean up your major messes as a courtesy to our cleaning person. As far as the amenities in the home, they are clearly listed on our website, so I am not sure why Mr. Green was so upset that he had to wash dishes by hand. Sincerly...Rick Mounce
