Just a 10 minute walk from the museums on the Mall, and a 5 minute walk from the Eastern Market metro stop, this newly renovated apartment is an ideal location, whether you're visiting DC for business or for pleasure.
It's situated on the bottom floor of our townhouse on historic East Capitol Street, one of the most beautiful streets in the city. Just step on to the sidewalk, look right, and you can see the Capitol Building five blocks away! It's only minutes from great restaurants and night life on Barracks Row (8th Street, SE), and the Atlas District of H Street NE. It's only a 15 minute walk to Nationals Park.
Matching the grand style of the upstairs home, built over 100 years ago, the apartment features a beautiful tin ceiling, dark wood wainscoting, and polished brick floors.
The kitchen and bathroom, as well as the brick floors, were completely renovated in 2013. The kitchen is full service (refrigerator, stove top, oven, microwave, dishwasher, disposal, farmer's sink, granite countertops) and equipped with a coffee maker, toaster, pots and pans, dinnerware, and basic utensils.
The bathroom was also completely renovated with all new fixtures, refinished tub, and even a washer and dryer for those longer stays; the new queen bed comfortably sleeps two. We can also provide a comfortable queen inflatable mattress. All sheets and towels are included, and we provide travel-sized shampoo, body gel, and soap.
The main living space has a table that seats four, a couch, chair, a desk, a 27 inch flat screen TV, on which we provide basic cable. Also, of course, we provide free wifi.
We live in the house (upstairs), so if there are any problems we are easily available. We want your stay to be comfortable - we are VRBO enthusiasts ourselves - and have tried to think of everything that WE expect from a property we visit.
There is a $50 cleaning fee per visit, and a FULLY REFUNDABLE $100 damage deposit. Repeat visitors will receive 10% discount on your stay and will not have to pay the damage deposit. Check-in is after 4:00 PM and check-out is before 11:00 AM.
Our calendar is regularly updated, so if you are interested in staying with us use the 'Book it Now' feature, if you have a question you can email us. Although we don't usually book two night rentals, if it's close to the date of inquiry, we'd be happy to consider it. Just ask.
For cancellation: if notified 30 days in advance, we offer a full refund; if notified 15 days in advance, a 50% refund; and if notified less than 15 days in advance, no refund.
A NOTE ABOUT PARKING (many inquiries ask questions about parking, which is only to be expected when coming to a larger city): We rarely have a problem with finding parking on the street, which is unusual for DC. During the day on weekdays, however, there is Zone 6 parking, and you can be ticketed. Our street is well lit and our house is across from the Congressional Daycare, so it's safe, but because it is a city, we do suggest you hide or remove any belongings in plain view in your vehicle, to be on the safe side.
We can provide visitor’s parking pass, if you request it. Just let us know, and we’ll leave it on the counter in kitchen. If you lose it, we’ll charge the entire damage deposit, though. Visitor passes are VERY expensive to replace!
If you don't want to park on the street, you can park at Union Station (http://www.unionstationdc.com/parking), which is a 5 minute cab ride or a 15 minute walk to the apartment. If you do decide to park at Union Station, we suggest dropping off your luggage at the apartment first and walking back. It's actually a lovely walk.
Also, during weekdays only, there’s a public parking lot across from Eastern Market (225 7th St SE), which is a 5 minute walk away and charges $8 a day, but you must have your car out by Friday evening; a flea market uses the lot on the weekends. It’s not a big lot, so space is limited.

About the owner: I'm an English teacher and writer, and my partner Jeff is an artist and teacher as well, so the apartment has artistic touches in the decor and an assortment of books, films, and magazines to peruse when you're not out exploring the city.
Why the Owner Chose Capitol Hill: We provide a comfortable, stylish apartment in the middle of Capitol Hill, a DC neighborhood in the midst of an cultural and culinary boom. It's the place to stay if you're visiting our city.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment: This is a very safe and well lit block and street - one of the best in the city, and definitely the best on Capitol Hill.
