Our Beautiful Home Above the Crowds Our home is located right down town, one block from Parque Calderon, in the heart of Cuenca’s historic district. Here you will enjoy living in a one-of-a-kind space, just a short walk to theaters, museums and the city's best restaurants.
You will have stunning uninterrupted panoramic views of the city and Cajas mountains from all rooms and the balcony off the living area. The second bedroom has a view of the landmark new Cathedral. The apartment occupies the entire 7th floor (148 m²/1600 sq. ft.) of a condominium that houses residents and professional offices (doctors, dentists, attorneys). The 7th floor was originally a roof-top restaurant, which was purchased by an American couple who completely redesigned and remodeled the space as a high-end residence under the supervision of a noted Ecuadorian architect. The building itself is a listed historic building as it was the first high-rise building in Cuenca to have an elevator.
Our elegant open-plan apartment is decorated with new art deco, mid-century modern and contemporary imported and local furnishings to create a one-of-a-kind space.
Sound-proof windows with Hunter Douglas blinds throughout, with blackout shades in bedrooms, add to your comfort. Because the apartment is recessed from the rest of the building and is high up, no external noise can be heard inside the apartment and minimal street noise can be heard even on the balcony at any time of the day or night.
The custom-built modern gourmet kitchen is well equipped with appliances, complete with dinnerware, cookware, silverware and barware.
When you arrive, you will find the kitchen stocked with fresh milk, bread, eggs, butter, tea, coffee, and filtered water. A well-stocked mini-market is less than 100 yards away.
The laundry room has a washer and dryer, with fragrance-free detergents provided. It stores a full-size ironing board and steam iron.
Each bedroom has a queen-size high-quality hotel mattress fitted with luxury imported linen. Custom closets provide generous space for all of your clothing. Alarm radios are provided in the bedrooms.
Each of the bathrooms has a shower and is supplied with hair-dryer and top-quality towels and toiletries. The master bedroom is ensuite.
Our penthouse is a listed historic building - the first high-rise in Cuenca and the first building to have an elevator. Access to the apartment is via elevator and stairs. Due to the stairs to the elevator, our apartment is unsuitable for handicap access.
The apartment has excellent security, both at ground level and on the 7th floor.
Although Cuenca’s climate is consistently pleasant, we provide two portable heaters. You will find umbrellas in the hallway.
The apartment is cleaned meticulously before you arrive. Our cleaning crew is required to follow a detailed cleaning procedure between guests no matter how brief their stay, including replacing all bed linen.
A cleaning service is provided free-of-charge half way during your visit if your stay is at least four weeks. An optional additional cleaning service is available for a small fee.
Well Connected We have recently changed our Internet service which is now provided by Etapa, the best provider in Cuenca.
The living area and the master-bedroom have LCD television screens with an extensive choice of channels, many in English, provided by Direct TV.
The LG Blue-Ray Disc Player in the living room comes with a selection of DVDs. A radio/CD player sound system, along with a selection of music CDS, is also provided.
An Epson Expression Wireless Inkjet Printer is provided. Each bedroom has a Sony ICF-C218 Clock Radio.
A 3GS iPhone is provided so you can make local calls. Should it need replenishing, you can add 15 minutes (or more) onto the phone at Moviestar outlet a block away for as little as $2.00.
Close to Supermarkets A well-stocked mini-market (Tia) is within a 100-yards where you can buy just about everything you will need, including wine, beer and spirits. A large American style supermarket (Supermaxi) is within a 15-minute stroll or a $2.00 taxi-ride. Near this supermarket is the Millenium Mall with shops, food-court and cinema.
Car Parking Inexpensive secure parking ( about $5 per day; $35 per month) is available at parking lots within a minute of two of the apartment.
Penthouse Location Our Penthouse is 15 minutes from the airport and a $3.00 taxi ride. Buses are a block or two away. Taxies easily available at from $1 - $4.
The penthouse is close to all tourist attractions, historic sites, great inexpensive restaurants, major businesses, and leisure activities.
Communication with Guests We provide a generous amount of information to our guests and we reply to email and phone messages within 24 hours.
Welcome Guide Our comprehensive Welcome Guide provides information and recommendations for coffee shops, restaurants, and places to visit. We also provide a list reliable doctors and dentists should you need low-cast, reliable emergency care.
Our property manager will welcome you to the penthouse and provide all the information you will need to have a pleasure-filled visit. The tourist information center is located a short walk away at Parque Calderon.

About the owner: I was born in Ireland and my wife Enid was born in England. We met in 1970 when I was working for Educational Television Zambia and Enid was working as an operating nurse and midwife for Anglo-American Mining Corporation in Zambia. We have four adult children who live in different parts of the world. We have lived in different countries, most recently the USA. We fell in love with Cuenca while traveling in South America and decided to purchase a home here. We enjoy traveling and this enables us to share our immaculate home with others. We like to visit our home countries and wherever our children are temporarily located internationally. Our trip to the Galapagos Islands was a highlight of our recent travels. We are learning Spanish and enjoy participating in Cuenca's many cultural activities and eating in the many fine, inexpensive local restaurants.
