This is a beautiful two-bedroom bungalow on stilts in the beachfront community, 'Hermosa Bungalows.' Located directly behind a full-size pool with views to the Pacific Ocean, and a short barefoot walk of less than 100 yards to a beautiful black sand beach with outstanding surf. Our bungalow is fully stocked to make your stay a truly memorable vacation. We take pride in offering our home as a welcome retreat for families with children, couples on an adventurous getaway, wedding parties or anniversary celebrations, and travelers who appreciate a home as a better option than a hotel room. You can't beat staying in this 1000 square foot home compared to a hotel!
The bungalow features two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two twins (that can be modified into an additional queen bed), and a queen sofa-bed in the living room. A portacrib is also available for infants. The kitchen is large and completely stocked with amenities. The bathroom has been completely expanded and remodeled with a large vanity and mirror as well as a large shower, with intricate mosaic tiles on the walls and vanity. Our bungalow has an additional water filtration system and tank to ensure clean water for our guests, an important feature during the rainy season! An extensive double-layer river rock leach field drainage system was recently installed to ensure adequate and rapid irrigation and drainage for the bathroom. The interior furniture is custom-made from native woods and there are bamboo black-out blinds throughout for ultimate privacy and for those who like to sleep in!
As with any property near the beach, it is important to maintain it with regular and frequent upkeep. So throughout 2012 we have made several UPGRADES to improve our guests' experiences:
Exterior and interior REPAINTING.
REFINISHED the interior wood floors.
Replaced exterior balcony wood floors with new native hardwood.
Added in-home WIFI with private password for our guests' use.
NEW CUSHIONS on all the couches and chairs.
New FLAT SCREEN TV in living room.
Replaced surf board racks.
Refinished storage locker for guests' suitcases and gear.
Replaced balcony ceiling with durable weather-proof material.
Reinforced balcony railings.
Complete bathroom remodel.
Reinforced the master bed frame.
Built-in stone BBQ
Also, in order to enhance your vacation experience, our on-site mother/daughter management team (who are from U.S.) provides concierge welcome service and assistance with making your stay at Bungalow 14 a vacation to remember!
You can enjoy great views from the expansive balcony which is furnished with rocking chairs and an outdoor dining table, or from the hammock facing the pool from our balcony. The pool is directly in front of the bungalow so there is a combined pool/ocean view during the day, and at night we're the ONLY rental bungalow in the complex with the lighted pool completely in front of our balcony.
Ecotourism and surfing are huge attractions to this part of Costa Rica, and the beach directly in front of our bungalow complex is one of the best on the Pacific, with the 'Almendro Tree' landmark as a well-known surf location. The water is always warm, and surfboard rentals are readily available. The ISA world surf competitions at Playa Hermosa are within walking distance from our bungalow.
Tropical birds and iguanas are frequent sightings from the bungalow, and macaws are often heard and seen flying overhead in the late afternoon. A wildlife estuary is adjacent to the bungalows and is a dream location for birdwatchers. Large sea turtles are known to come up on the beach to lay eggs, and a turtle expert who lives down the road often has night tours to view the turtles.
Incredible wildlife is also seen at Manuel Antonio National Park, less than an hour drive south. There you may see white-faced capuchin monkeys, sloths, koatis, iguanas, and several bird species. The Carara National Park is only a 20-minute drive to our north. It is a sanctuary for wild scarlet macaws, and toucans are also seen there. Self-guided tours as well as hired guides can be taken at both parks.
The town of Jacó is a 5-minute drive to the north, where you can find restaurants, bars, surf shops, and markets. Excursions (ie. ATV, rafting) can be arranged by our manager. Fishing, boating, and snorkeling trips are available from the marina by the Marriott Los Suenos 5 minutes north of Jacó. The Marriott also has an excellent golf course. You can't leave Costa Rica without taking a canopy (zip-line) tour, one of the most exhilarating experiences you will ever have. Yes, you will fly through the jungle with just a harness and a cable!

We recently had the opportunity to visit Costa Rica to celebrate the upcoming High School graduation of our son. My husband, two teenage boys, and I had the pleasure to staying in the bungalows. My family is well traveled but this was our first visit to Costa Rica. It may have been the most enjoyable and relaxing vacation we have ever taken as a family. We loved everything: the weather, the wild life, the beautiful and friendly Costa Rican people, and, oh yeah, the food. Our accommodations were perfect; it felt like home right from the start. The bungalow had all the amenities we could hope for, even for us spoiled Americans, including a flat screen TV, which I must say even with two teenage boys, we never tuned on once. Twinka, the property manager, took care of everything including stocking our kitchen with all the necessities: wine for our first sunset on the beach and all the supplies for breakfast the next morning. We immediately settled into a routine of rising early with the sounds of nature, preparing wonderful Costa Rican coffee and taking a walk on the beach. To our surprise, our boys joined us almost every morning. Our days were full of adventures, including surfing, ATV tours, zip lining over the canopy… There was so much to do in either walking distance or a short drive away. In the afternoons we found ourselves relaxing by the pool and taking turns selecting a restaurant for dinner; we ate really well. Each evening over dinner, our conversations were animated, recollecting the adventures of the day. We spent an entire week discovering Costa Rica and enjoying each other. This was a wonderful vacation for our family and will always be a fond memory as we see our son off to college next fall. We are eternally grateful to our hosts for sharing their home. We can’t wait to come back and would recommend it highly. The one thing we wish we did differently: STAY LONGER!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the bungalows for a month in 2011 and wished it could have been extended! The homeowners were more than hospitable for renting us their bungalow. The place is their second home and it was kept as such. It was a wonderful getaway and "home away from home" for our month vacation. Property managers were more than accommodating with trips/excursions and providing transportation to and from Jaco. Also treated us like family by inviting us into their home for Thanksgiving and other festivities. Everyone in the community of bungalows were very nice and helpful being that the majority of them were from the United States. The location of the bungalows were in close proximity to world class surf and great nightlife/restaurants in Jaco. The location of the pool in the center of all the bungalows was great to meet with other guests and enjoy relaxing yoga. Everything we were looking for in our vacation was fulfilled at the Hermosa Beach Bungalows. We cannot say enough about this place and we will definitely recommend it to our friends and families. We loved it so much we are planning another trip back soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Costa Rica has been at the top of our travel list for a long time because of its natural beauty, wildlife, and zipline canopy tours. The trip was not only an adventure but a romantic getaway. The beach is 100 yards from our doorstep, and the sunsets were glorious. Our bungalow was very neat and well maintained. We could relax in the hammock on the balcony or enjoy the pool only a few steps from our door. Hermosa Beach Bungalows is family friendly, yet perfect for couples. The property manager was helpful in recommending various attractions. We definitely recommend Vista Los Suenos for ziplining, the Lemon Zest for gourmet dining,and the Serenity Spa in downtown Jaco for a little pampering. We plan on making a return visit as there is so much to see and do. "Thumbs up" for family and friends!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I have always wanted to visit Costa Rica. She is a "pool girl" and I am a "ocean guy." This bungalow was PERFECT for the two of us. It is located right next to the pool (the pictures don't lie) and a 100 yards (if that far) from the beach. The bungalow was well stocked and in great condition. We made dinner every night and ate out on the deck. There was no problems with bugs (at least in February). Last, Valery was great to work with. She was helpful with any questions. Judith, the property manager was awesome as well and patient with all our questions. We would definitely recommend it to others to go.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: We live in the Laguna Beach area of Orange County, California. Along with our 2 sons, we use it as our second home. It is truly a restful and fun get-away from the busy work and school lives that we lead. We hope that you enjoy your vacation and feel welcome in our home.

We are the original owners of this wonderful bungalow. We purchased it during the construction phase when the pool was just a hole in the ground! It is a wonderful location in the bungalow complex, directly behind the pool with a view to the ocean. Playa Hermosa is a quiet beach town 5 minutes south of the busy town of Jaco, so we feel it is a perfect location to be in nature but close to a town for nightlife and excursions.
