This spot could be my favorite place on Earth

I had never been to Good Hart, but Northern Michigan has consistently been the geographical love of my life for years. Until this past weekend, I would have been happy in any northern city in any cottage, but after a weekend at the Hideout, I realize that this is the one place I have a strong need to go back to year after year. Sitting on acres of lush greenery, you feel totally secluded, like you are on a deserted island in the middle of lake Michigan. But the reality is that you are only about 15 miles from civilization. There are neighbors close by, but each lot is completely surrounded by trees so there is a sense of privacy that I have never experienced before. The cottage is very cute and clean. It's been decorated to the max with kitchy cabin decor but it's done with thought and sophistication. It's not cheesey, it's just really fitting, warm, and charming. The bathroom is small but clean and the kitchen is stocked with anything you could need. There are 2 grills for convenience and a storage facility with camping, boating, and sporting gear. The cabin has huge picture windows so you are constantly reminded of the amazing setting. The Good Hart area is secluded with private properties and stunning homes. It's very upscale and rustic at the same time. I left the cabin yesterday and I really miss it! The fact that you are on lake michigan with a very distant view of Beaver Island makes you feel very connected to nature and the state of Michigan. It's a wonderful place and I clearly cannot say enough good things about this cabin. If you are considering this place versus another, I would highly recommend the Hideout. It's literally like a little piece of heaven on earth!

Me and my girlfriends stayed at the Hideaway for a girl's long weekend and couldn't have had a better time. The cabin itself is clean, amazingly well kept, and full of character and warmth - very spacious for our group of 4. The property is large and very well secluded, lending itself to the feeling that you and your group are the only inhabitants for miles (even though neighbors are right down the same small street). The seclusion, amazing views, and gorgeous scenery helped make this one of the most relaxing trips of my life. Very short and easy distance from Harbor Springs, which was wonderful for quick trips to town for dining or picking up essentials. Doug, the property owner, couldn't have been more helpful, accomodating, and friendly. We're already planning our next trip back!

The Perfect Find!!!

We were looking for a new fall get-away location when someone recommended the Homeaway site. We found the Hideaway and reserved our 3-day stay Oct 09. This is an absolutely lovely home in a great area with alot of privacy. Wonderful, cozy, private, comfortable. We loved it so much we're hoping for a week next summer. The owner was great, all contact timely and informative. The property was everything promised and very clean; full function kitchen & fireplace in the livingroom. Small private beach area with a fire ring. The pictures are exactly what you get! There is no TV, but a very nice CD player. We found that our cell phones didn't work inside and sketchy outside, but it wasn't really a problem when you're getting away from it all. It's only 30 minutes to Mackinaw, Petosky and less to Harbor Springs if you're looking to get out and about. We told everyone who asked what a great place it was and what a wonderful time we had.

"Thanks for sharing your slice of paradise with us. Your place is a great treasure and we truly enjoyed every minute of our stay. We saw deer drinking out of the lake early in the morning and dining on branches in the evening - a great view of nature up close. Given the eight days of high heat Janet watered your flowers on several occasions. Thanks for the kind greetings and warm reception, it set the tone for a totally relaxing visit. Thanks again, we truly love this spot! "

"Wow!! This is the first time we have ventured out of Canada to a cottage and we were not disappointed. Thank you for giving us such a welcoming, relaxing, Hideaway. Our favorite things: beautiful sunsets, cool nights with warm fires, clear starry nights, the quite setting, visits from deer, wood peckers and humming birds, the swing (our 5 month olds favorite!), croquet, the rocks - We loved it all!! Thanks again!"

"Thank you for sharing "The Hide Away" with us. It's as beautiful and relaxing as we remember it. We were blessed with six days of sunny gorgeous weather and closed out the week watching the rain roll in. Mother Nature never ceases to amaze us with her beauty. Thank you for the memories."

"Another beautiful week at the Hide Away. Wonderful rain on Tuesday evening with hail, lighting and thunder - then gorgeous! Nothing is better for the soul than a week spent here. This has been a week of changes for our family - Perhaps our last "vacation" together as our oldest graduates in 2005 and moves on with life. We feel blessed to have this time together at this special place. Thank you!"

What a great week we had at your cabin. The view is incredible and we enjoyed listening to the water all week long. We enjoyed visiting Harbor Springs and the area beaches, especially Sturgeon Bay. We collected rocks several mornings, so we will be able to take a little bit of Michigan back to our home! We will never forget the sunsets! You certainly have a wonderful "Hide Away" and thank you for sharing it with us. Our six year old son, Jay woke up every morning with a smile on his face (even though there was no TV)!! He did not want to leave!

"Our first time here, and with perfect weather we did a little of everything. Made campfires while enjoying the magnificent sunsets. Took walks on the beach and trails. Hunted for and found Petoskey stones at the State Park. And lots of reading and relaxing with such a wonderful view. Thanks for sharing your cozy cottage with our family!

Once again this year, we had a wonderful stayat the Hide Away! We look forward to our time here and always hate to leave. Seems like the minute we arrive, the boys are asking if we can come back next year. Thank you for sharing the cottage and providing our family with many happy memories!

"Once again this year what a great place the Hideaway is to relax, read, and do whatever one wants. Although it was 90 degrees inland on the 6'th 7'th and 8'th, it was very pleasant here on the lake - always a nice breeze. Thanks again for a wonderful 2 weeks. "

"Oh, we long that every day could be like our days here at the Hide Away! The weather was perfect - even the few evening storms were wonderful to watch over the lake. Our boys, Jess (15), Sam (11), and friend Riley (12) never lacked for adventures - never once heard "I'm Bored!" Thank you for opening your home, it is everything a cottage should be and more! " P.S. The Pond Hill Market (South towards Harbor Springs) is a great place for fresh produce, wonderful home canned goods and farm animals for the kids to enjoy. "

Thank you for once again opening your lovely cabin to the H. family. This year was a little different considering we have three month old! The weather was wonderful the entire week. Andy swam every day in the gorgeous lake and Sophie enjoyed the wind in the beautiful trees. It's amazing that even a little baby can enjoy the wilderness as much as her parents. We were visited often by a pair of swans on the water. We love it here so much that we put on offer in on a home on Lamkin Rd. - we might be neighbors soon.

"What a lovely cottage and setting - you Bliss cottage is wonderful and you did a beautiful job in restoring it. We had a great time exploring...... and walking the beach. We were told the water is low this year but that made it very warm. We were visited by a family of turkeys - 4 parents and 15 babies, deer, chipmunks,, squirrels, chickadees, finches, wrens, butterflies, large vulture on the lake, seagulls of coarse, ducks and twice by an eagle and swans. Our first week was sunny and warm. We watered the yard and flower beds and had a nice rain the following day. The second week was cloudy and humid. Every day was a treat and we loved our time in Good Hart. "

"Our adventure to you cabin was spectacular because the fall colors were at their peak, and the weather was perfect. Our experience of this beauty is something we will always remember. The Trip down the bluff was made much more exciting as the beautiful leaves had covered the road. You can tell we are city folk! Although we only spent a long weekend we visited Petoskey, Harbor Springs and the Legs Inn. We took a long walk down the beach collecting stones for our son Joshua. We saw deer and raccoon tracks but no humans. We love your cabin especially the fireplace and all your cool lamps. All the knick-knacks remind us of visits with relatives when we were kids. The cabin has a welcoming character and is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy each others company. Thanks for sharing your home with us. "

"What a great Hideaway & a great place for family bonding! The kids enjoyed walking on the rocks, finding fossils, building fires, watching awesome sunsets & taking walks in nature - Oh, of course the sand was fun too! Us grown - ups mostly enjoyed the quite time as the kids were always occupied, no TV, no phones ringing, the awesome sunsets the spectacular Aurora Borealis and shooting stars, the smell and sounds of the water and all the nature and beauty surrounding us. Being here only for one week has left up with a lifetime of timeless memories. It has renewed our "beings" and helped us to recreate the peace that tends to be lost in everyday hectic city living. The phrase "silence is golden" is appropriate in Good Hart at the Blisswood resort of the Ross'."

"Idyllic hiding place for adults - a different place for children to figure out how to have fun without electronics or batteries - sand castles, skipping stones, hammocks, woods fires, bugs, woods, stars and water. We really enjoyed hiking around the cottage and your cozy cottage. "
